  • am i the only one who NEVER use shield?

  • @electokev yes

  • so thats how these cpu's keep hitting me..

  • I don't know how, but 75% of my shields are Perfect Shields. And I don't even practice it!

  • Your comment is unrealistic because metaknight sucks.

  • @Wiintendoh your comment is stupid because metaknight is the best... He is not allowed in official tournaments because he is TO good

  • Sooo...You post how to do a cool technique and then don't show an example of it in a real match?

  • The trick to doing this kids is timing! Im still trying to perfect my power shielding lol

  • is it z to roll?

  • this is wrong you can grab by pressing attack while sheilding

  • Actually, you can attack immediately attack out of shield even if it wasn't a Perfect. The actual difference is you aren't knocked back with perfect shields and your shield takes far less damage.

I don't think Perfects can be shieldpoked either, but I could be wrong,

  • I know how to do it. first when it hits you do it the exact moment the opponent hits you and immediate after ur done blocking do something else like kick or punch or wth u do u have to move exactly after u shield. Wow did y'all not pay close attention to this vid? :P IM SMART.

  • HOW DO YOU DO THAT !!!!!!!

  • I can do this

  • I cant for the life of me do it. but cpu's do it with ease DX but i usually win.

  • Lawl, you snapped Mr. GameAndWatch's neck....

    Lol

  • This demonstration is unrealistic because no one is using metaknight.

  • post of the fucking year.

  • @gsomega best comment ever

  • @gsomega I am?

  • Holy crap... my lvl 5 Wario and my lvl 5 Falco have freaking mastered this...

I never play Wario so thats weird... I play ALOT with falco, so I can understand that. BUT DANG ITS ANOYING!!!!!!!!

  • That's nice and all, but what's the startup? How many frames are in the window?

Why don't you try giving actual information?

  • I think there's a two frame window. either that, or that was the window in melee. might wanna check smash wiki

  • Good players play whatever they want

  • Can't wait to try this out! ^^

Also I wonder what the name of the song was. *hint hint*

  • I've owned all three and can play with evey character. Just some better than others. I like them all, they all have their positives and negatives, but using negatives as positives can be very helpful and rewarding.

    AND IKE'S GANGSTERIFIC! D:<

  • gj noob ~*sigh*

  • Sounds like something from Metroid Prime...

  • Hey, can someone tell me the name of the music in this video?

  • after all that if you want to spin around like a noob use jigglypuff

  • sonic isnt for noobs, mk yes

  • iSpin laughs in your face.

btw, good players don't use cheap-ass Meta Knight either.

  • You're god damn right. LoL

  • good players play both without trashing on either

    or maybe even all 3

  • what about ike??

  • if you swing that way, then that's your buisness

  • I love sonic. hes one of those characters so agile, i rarely even have to dodge or roll to avoid attacks and counter.

  • @srqsoccer what about malcolm

  • @IMAK3N0V1DS i saw some of his matches and im really impressed and it took alot of skill to get that good with sonic, but regardless he lost most of his matches. they were all very close but he still lost. maybe is had a different character...

  • @srqsoccer good players dont bitch about about other characters abilities

  • @hhheeeccckkk526 dude i made that comment a year ago, bottom line is his stats just aren't up to par with the rest of the characters in brawl. Mind games will only get you so far, but in top meta play sonic doesn't stand a chance. I applaud all those who try and i am truely blown away by those who do amazing with sonic, but its kinda the equavilant of do amazing with a wiimote. You just won't be a top player with either bottomline. but he does look like hella fun to play, and thats what matters

  • @srqsoccer yes his stats may suck but so do alot of other characters. ike for one is over powered for example. sonic is a advanced character to use because of his speed and how weak his attacks are(kinda like jigglypuff except with speed). and there are people who have won tournaments with sonic i bet. and you are right, sonic is a fun character but the chances of beating other top class players is pretty low unless you have a smash ball.

  • @srqsoccer

Good players can kick ass with everyone. :'D

  • I think as an added bonus that your shield gets refilled

  • Cool music. So is it that you press the shield at the exact moment of possible attack impact in order to fulfil the perfect shield?

  • yes

  • Wow that's a great fact

  • POWERSHIELDING is shielding at the frame the attack hits the opponent. Why are people making new names for something already made. Plus powershielding was in the book of the first game. It's not something made up by other people. You can't truly call it "Perfect Shielding" anyway. It's too long and people will just say shielding. Sorry.

  • It says perfect shielding on the website, but you're right anyway. Barwl new comers don't know about the past games, hmmm?

Of course, I'm not one of them. I actually own Melee.

  • Not terribly useful as a video (very basic), but well made, and I suppose it would help some people new to the game.

  • whats the name of this songs please

  • Not the beginning of the attack's animation, you can easily perfect shield the end of an attack, it's the beginning of shielding. And does any one else think perfect shielding in Brawl is WAY TOO EASY? 5 of 6 of your shields or more are likely perfect.

  • its called luck x.x

  • Ya, it's very interesting how a lot of fighting games give some sort of reward system for being able to "tech" or guard or block at the right time. In Soul Calibur 2, it's calle Guard Impact, in Street Fighter III it's called Parry, etc...

  • But the names are justified. Hand to hand uses "parrying" to advert an opponents attack. "Guard impact" is similar by you are throwing your opponent off guard giving you a chance to attack. "Powershielding" is also justified usually reflecting, but became to easy in Brawl. Powershielding is just shielding with timing.

  • So this is how the CPU's reverse everything.

  • :O hm.

  • those i play with call it "Tech" because u tech it. like in street fighter

  • @V0lgin -

There's already a technique called 'tech' in Brawl. Look it up.

  • good way to keep someone from "pushing"" you off the edge.

  • TY. this gives chars like ganon an oppotunity to spot sonic from spamming the forward b!

  • Good Sonic Players wouldn't spam the forward B, it sucks too much to be of any really use other than mindgames.

  • Actaully, down B is faster

  • I always called it "Flash Blocking" because of the way the shield flashes when it disappears.

  • I don't like the SSBB sheilding system. way too often am I killed while rolling, I think there is a vincible animation at the VERY beginning of the roll, cuz cpu's exploit it all the time

  • It's called 'power shielding'.

  • Not in brawl. For some stupid readon they changed it.

  • Really?

    I had no idea.

  • what's the point of the video if he does'nt tell u how to do it?

  • It does tell you how to do it.. right after the opening credits it says "Perfect Shielding is a technique where you ____shield against an attack near the beginning animation____ and it cancels your block stun and knock back"

Simple answer: Shield against an attack near the beginning of the animation.

  • in others words. What revenge said. Shield the second your character makes contact with the attack

  • Why does Brawl suck? Because they changed the system. Gotta learn to adapt. It's not that much of a sacrifice really. We all had to do it when Melee came out.

  • Here here!

  • Yeah I mean, you didn't hear any casual gamers like myself complaining when Melee came out, in fact, we liked it even more due to extra content. The change and having to adapt is a small price to pay for the extra neat content.

Now it's going more casual again, the pendulum swings to the other side yet again. Heh, flash blocking, I like that term. I'll probably be using it myself.

  • I like you. :]

  • thx alot

  • Cool, Powershielding is easier. I took so much damage trying it in Melee.:(

  • Argh, my brother does this to me all the time...

  • u kno u "Perfect Shield'ed" when u hear the click or ding noise when they touch u.

  • silly bitch you cannot harm me, I'm perfect shieldin

  • Lol almost no one does this intentionally. It takes .3 seconds for the message in your brain to reach you hand and tell it it press down. It can't be done unless there is a very slow attack, but if it's slow enough to give you the leisure of power shielding, just do what ever you were gonna do before it even hits you!

  • Or you can call it fading.

  • SO this is how you do it..

People have been using this to attack me in the middle of my TL "aaa" attack; I thought there wasn't enough time...

  • then you're too dumb to realise it then.

  • He probably thinks Melee is greater than Brawl will ever be too.

  • well .. even tough its sad ...

I would not be surprised if this sentence is actually true.

  • huh... this'd work amazingly well with jigglypuff's down+b

  • can you imagine a battle where both contestants use powershield?

  • and who didn't know this? its useful for someone new to the series but its obvious to a veteran who is more likely to be looking for these vids

  • I do this alot to falcon punch spammers on wifi...

  • It's not that this hasn't been around before brawl, it's just that now it's actually feasable. Perfect shielding in melee was almost impossible, because I believe you had to press the shield button in the exact frame that the attack hit.

  • It wasn't that hard in melee, just required timing. and FlyingSagittarius is right people do miss their wavedashing.

  • Power/Hyper Shielding has been an AT since melee...

  • It's been there since melee. It wasn't considered an Advanced Technique then. Now it's easier. Why is it now?

  • wtf you can powershield throws????

that makes about as much sense as powershielding shield breaker.

  • you cannot powershield throws

  • i think this is cool ^_^ thx for the upload dude ^_^

  • How do you use the perfect shield block, i just recently got Brawl and I'm lost at this type of thing

  • Just shield right before an attack connects. Believe me, the sound is distinctive.

    Now, as to not spam...

Seems like this would be a good mind-game device. Shield, Grab, hit, let your opponent out, repeat. Good in Theory, mind you. In theory.

  • It's just a powershield. If you had any other smash game, you would have known this...but if you did have one, then I pity you.

  • i wish people who post demonstration videos would cut the time on the "text screens" (just let the viewers pause it) and cut off their mistakes.

  • do u shield rite before they attack u or wen they are first using there move

  • retard.

  • yeah maybe when you first start fighing with this tech you may suck.. thats why practice makes perfect

  • it is like a counter cuz its a well timed block! good thing they made it easier, it was basically a lucky occurence in melee almost every time since it was so damn hard except for lv 9 cpus lol

  • this is so tight

  • lol parry system

  • wow thanks for this! :D

  • hopefully i can use this in the gamestop tourney ^^

  • same thoughts

  • Holy Cow! I signed up for the gamestop tourney as well! I'm thinkin' the same thing dude! See you in the Finals!

  • 1 of you wont be there because i will

  • Most informative... Must test in 12 days. -drool-

  • What song was that? *ready for thumbs down*

  • Hm. I like this. A lot. Lol.

  • Um, no.

  • WAY WRONG

  • haha snakes grab moves awesome

  • very helpful technique if mastered!!!

  • when mastered**

  • Translation: The game has easier power shielding.

Damn i didnt need a vid for this. XD

  • hey its kinda difficult doing that when your facing real people and not still stuff..!?

    o_0

  • yes it is. but so was parrying in SF3. it just means that you needs more skill to pull it off.

  • Not at all.

The attacks still come out the same speed. The only difference is that there is a brain behind the character.

  • you're the stupid one, with the perfect shield you can recover from an opponent attack immediately and than counterattack...

if you perfect shield correctly, you can reverse the opponent's advantage...

    now who is stupid?

  • takes one to know one

  • lol

  • bag

  • Lol, what does that mean?

    bag~~

  • I have no idea why i put bag i feel stupid now. Could someone please give me thumbs up? I think i wrote that when i was sleeping lol

  • bag~~ xD

  • so we changed the name to "perfect shielding"?

  • Power shielding sounds 100x better than "Perfect Shielding"

  • i love you pirate because i agree so much

  • What does it have to do with power? When you shield perfectly it can even reflect a super scope.

  • and it needs to be powerful to do that right?

  • its just the term

  • It's the official name according to the Dojo.

  • Yes, powershielding has come a long way from Melee.

  • Awesome. Looks like a good technique

  • I am not the man in the magazine!!

  • kinda kile the gurd break in soul caliber

  • What song is that?

  • It seems a hell of a lot easier than in Melee thankfully.

On a semi-unrelated note, does Jiggles still kill herself upon the breaking of her shield?

  • she does launch up instantly and would kill herself with out a cieling above.

  • Oh my god, I love it! I can't wait for this to come out for US.

  • Basically, its more like parrying in 3rd Strike except not as godly.

  • Can you still deflect projectiles like in Melee if you perfect shield?

  • No.

    -DD

  • Yeah, you can.

  • You can, but the timing is even weirder. Mew2King was talking about it in the SBR and he thinks it has something to do with the spacing of each character. He said when you were right next to the person it would deflect each time but if you were across the level it would only work rarely.

I'll test it more and post results later.

  • Ahh I see.

  • yes you can, but it has to be extremely early (as soon as the projectile comes out basically)

  • cool

  • The fact that you did it without fail multiple times in a row is promising.

  • cool
