  • Nice...

  • Got anything on natures insect repellent?

  • did you bring the charcol (spell) from back home?

  • Hm. you say you plugged the holes with pollen resin? when i google this i end up with Hashish. Is it part of your survival kit ?

  • @hongkongflip he said pine resin :)

  • @survivalkid2452 Darn his accent. Nvmd im sure i will find a use for it :)

  • good job

  • Do you have to use the moss you clean up with?...seems counter intuitive!

    lol

  • looks to me like one could use bamboo.I live in texas we do not have berch.i use a peace of PVC.you can find PVC any where.

  • great video. & demonstration of bushcraft skills, however in a survival situation I would have drank all the water you were squeezing out of that moss as it would be perfectly clean anyway then I'd have time to build a shelter & a fire

  • This is dope.

  • Thanks for the demo and the vid Gawletap. Excellent demonstration of true wilderness skills.

  • This is for The Jordan7777. The fast moving water being safe to drink is a myth. Having lived in Montana and New England and being a one time EMT and Search and Rescue Tech I have seen people lost in the woods and gotten violently sick from thinking that myth is true. Just because water is moving rapidly does not make is any safer then when it was still.

  • thx for this it may save my life one day!

  • That was really useful and what a great well manerd dog!!!!

  • Fantastic stuff.

  • where'd u get the charcoal

  • @Gamermatt99 to make charcoal you make a fire and then when you have a hot coal you deprive it of oxegen by buring it until it cools.charcoal also makes an ember when used witha ferro rod/flint and steel/fire steel.

  • Very inspiring video! Thanks!

  • do you need to make one of these natural filters everytime you get water?..and if not, how many times can you use one natural filter before you need to make another?

  • The way he handles this piece of wood reminds me of...

  • Awsome video a simple coarse filter i look forward to making my own

  • @TheJordan7777

Yeah sorry I have to call BS on your reply, this is a DEMO, to show if you have to build this and it took you 7.1 hours that would be better than dying from bad water, and filter this way and boiling is what I would do, thank you Gawltep. I will make one this spring to see how long it actually takes a first time someone makes it.

and if you get sick from drinking bad water, it will be very hard to build a fire build a shelter, look for food, get more water. get out of situation.

  • RE at the comments below:

True, but The whole point of this post as he stated at the START is that this is to be made IF THEIR IS NO MAN MADE MATERIALS available in your location. Geeez! LISTEN ..! Kids today eh. I bet half of you still live at home with mummy n daddy and cant even cook beans on toast!!!!

  • I have to call bs on this one. Anyone with the 7.1 hours required to build this things, wait for it the filter, then BOIL THE WATER, then wait for it to cool - obviously was not that thirsty to begin with. Point 2: boiling the water is more than sufficient. Point 3: water from an average stream, especially a fast moving stream like the one pictured, will cause no harm, boiled or not. Point 4: if lost, build a fire, build a shelter - don't waste time on a water filter. imao. sorry!

  • this has really stiffened it up now! :P LOL thats what she said

  • Yeah that's to much work. You can easily save so much time by just using a piece of cloth (Like a bandana) to get out the big crap. Then you can use 2% iodine (5 drops per quart) You can use bleach (I think it's 5 drops per quart too I forgot) or you can simply just boil. In the end the water is still safe to drink without having to find a tree branch then hollow it out etc.

  • I love your videos. You're very handsome.

  • i dont use sand i, use cow shit and rocks

  • How long would the water filter last? as the Brita filters only last one month so this tells me carbon has a shelf life for effective filtering. Thank you.

  • help please if i drank accidentally just a little drink of lake water that the water don't move around like a river is just around plants and mud, will that get me sick or be bad for me, or it will go away after i digest that?

  • @elgoose2003 yea u might get sick, if u arent yet.. if not, good!

    take care

  • are those nettles non-stinging?

  • @withoutnameorplace nah those r stinging, that why he used the branch to take them off so he wouldnt get stuck

  • +1 for Birchbark. I've had similar ideas.

What is your puppie's name? lol.

  • I know it might just be a demonstration but what exactly are yo filtering from that water? It looks pretty clear to me.

Would this filter work with muddied water?

  • @hydraulikz usually that sphagnum moss he used is very good water to drink but if u want a filter takes out dirt, debris, bugs, and maybe cysts - but boiling is still an option with filtering- use the combo of both

  • Thank you. Great stuff.

  • you say that moss is natures TP? you mean I've been led wrong to think old growth nettles is??

  • ***** If i could give more stars I would but 5 is the max.
