  • Jeff, was a Great one! Sniff! Sniff! Ready to pound it out BOYS! Loved his playing...

  • I learned lots of good stuff from Jeff. R.I.P. Jeff

  • Watch the BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD VIDEO... Jeff doesn't feature and it's a freakin travisty. This man is the GOD of ALL DRUMMIN.. Only ever one and still the greatest.. Everyone else just immitates... God Rest The King Of the skins....PEACE JEFF xxx

  • I fucking love the 80s

  • the legendZ

  • The man was a legend in his own lifetime and continues to be long after his tragic departure from this world. He is on my mandatory listening list for all of my students! Metronomic and full of soul, still one of my favourite players and that's not likely to change!

  • I just watched part of this tonight; then crawled behind my Gretsch Catalina kickin' figures for "These Chains' with a cassette.....NOBODY had that......NOBODY. They called him "the Kid". I HATE speaking of an older and now Elsewhere drum brother in past tense. God Bless Porcaros all who were his family and friends. I cried like a BRAT the day he left.....! This is one of the TIGHTEST combos. PERIOD. Ever. MIKE suffers from ALS/Lou Gehrig's now....there is no cure.......

  • JEFF FUCKIN PORCARO REST IN PEACE.

    WHAT A GROOVE.

  • why did it have to end! D:

  • RIP Jeff ....

  • Thr Porcaro's were friends from Connecticut.

  • Solid!!! Just played what was required.

  • R.I.P. Jeff Porcaro

  • jadrummer110......Even if you someday become a pro this is just another drummer who will always be able to destroy you.

  • @jadrummer110 I guarantee you that 99.99% of professional drummers would say that they wish they could play like this guy.

  • @jadrummer110 im sorry that real music doesnt revolve around 100% heavy metal bullshit that has no real pattern, no real skill involved. i could play any heavy metal song you name on the drums, jeff porcaro is in a league of his own. no drummer who has any >real< sense is going to say hes a "wimpy drummer". hes more skilled than anyone else you could name, he has his own style of music known as legendary, im just sorry you cant see that

  • @69dh96 Sorry? Dennis Chambers, steve gadd dave weckyl Vinnie Colauita, Tony Williams and myself smoke this dude at everything..

  • @jadrummer110 well someone's a bit full of themselves arent they. judging from that, i could probably run circles around you and im pretty shit, even if im best in my year. those drummers are good, sure, but they cant play like jeff porcaro.

  • @jadrummer110 "I am a better overall drummer than jeff porcaro" also you're glory days were in the 70's and quickly faded due to heavy rainfall in the winter, so dont talk about "old technology" and this is you at your peak in the 70's with that shitty band you claim would have been bigger than QUEEN, you're an idiot.

Watch the great "jadrummer110" in the zone in the 70's note the fantastic cowbell hehe.

    watch?v=f7FT7ZvNtag&feature=channel_video_title

  • @jadrummer110 well, if you were a true believer in one god, you would not be one to put yourself above others like this. better to be humble than to be proud mate.

  • Comment removed

  • @jadrummer110 yeah just not a better in terms of being able to play or upload any videos or proof of anything at all whatsoever, U r full of shit completely, dont go to all of the Avenged Sevenfold videos and laugh at the recently deceaced drummer to the fans mourning him, is that what your god tells you to do?, all the racism on the Tosin Abasi forums, you're a loser, everyone can see it, you're a chump loser old man, but you're the "best in the business" right pops?.

  • does anybody know what snare drum is Porcaro using?

  • @rodolfo11 In another vid from this series he's playing a Pearl Free-Floating drum. Makes sense because he was endorsing Pearl at the time. Hard to tell the shell material or depth. Looks metal, probably a 4" or 5".

  • @rodolfo11 Looks like a brass piccolo snare. No?

  • @rodolfo11 Probably Pearl.

  • Are those prototype Paiste Signature cymbals he's using?

  • Whoever disliked this vid don't know about quality

  • Even though Jeff is longer with us,surely with talent like his,it's not wasted in another strathosphere.

  • @NVRambo What the hell are you talking about???? I just asked a question!

  • Another great example of 'simplicity is king.' Big grooves like this are possible when you've got big ears and little ego. Sit on your kit and play a 16th note groove for 20 minutes without a fill. Do it everyday for one month (w/a metronome) and learn to 'hear' the groove without fills or crashes. This isn't about technique, it's about editing; leave out everything that needn't be there. Jeff could do that because he grew up playing music, not drums.

  • @MrCherryJuice Very beautiful comment ! I like !

  • the bass looks like 99 luftbalons from nena hahaha

but jeff is tooo groovie in all is songs! GJ

  • hahaha 1 dislike. Probably by mistake!

  • GranDe Jeff!! !!!!!Funk Señores!

  • Never seen a bass player more happy to be alive

  • I wonder why Mike won't play bass in Toto anymore, so Toto had to hire Phil Collins' bassist....the only thing I can think of, to explain it, is Mike Porcaro won't lock in with Simon Phillips the same way he did with Jeff....

  • @vampiroangelico --> Mike has the ALS disease, he's not able to play anymore...

  • @niftynili Ooooh I did not know that.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @vampiroangelico He can't play anymore dude. He is sick... God Bless his soul... That's way he isn't play since FIB tour.

  • To this day still..........SHOCK AND AWE!

  • Mr. Groove Master ... the tightest groover in the business - ever. What a loss, what a joy to have some video of his work to groove into.

  • Just a sick, sick, sick, meter and groove WOW!!!

  • He realy was the "Elvis" of his game. I bought the vidio back in 1988 for insperation..

Stillgot it but now im 43 Im realy into it more than ever...buy the way folk's" it takes to much some time to imitate/or is that" imertate someone...he left a ledacey to which we all try and live up to...God bless you Jeff...Mike and Joe....but last but not least..

    Thankyou!!

  • Jeff was the best and will always be the best! NOBODY can come close to this cat's feel! Well Carlos Vega came pretty close...RIP Jeff and Carlos.

  • WHAT BASS IS MIKE PLAYING? :/

  • Bass line reminds me of 99 luft balloons.

  • Jeff the music world misses you...

  • soooooooooooooooooooooooo funky

  • That is FUNKAY!!!

  • he's waist deep in that pocket

  • Jeff Porcaro = the best drummer 4EVER

  • Jeff was one of most influental drummers

  • simple yet complicated..jeff's drumming just made the music better!!!! no matter how easy the drum beat was jeff always had that tightness and groove that no other drummer has

  • the groove is just too deep!! best rhythm section ever

  • i got that on dvd!

  • This sounds like "Rio Funk".....

  • @wackernie2009 Yeahhh!!!! XD they stole the ritmics XD

  • the bass line is very much similar to 99 luftballoons

  • Groove trumps all. Chops are great, but impressive to drummers only, usually.

  • @Croatch Lifetime keys freak here! See my profile image? I DIRECTLY relate to those Poorboy frames parked across Jeffrey's nose. I lived at Southern Miss ("TO THE TOP!") because I've never been licensed to drive a car. Music biz MAJOR I was; Alzheimer's runs in my family. i'm learning kit to ward off the FX! At FOURTY? I've played skins since '07. Jeff's Dad ain't no slouch; his book is Insanely difficult! I cried like a BRAT when Jeff left!!

  • R.I.P Jeff, You were a bad ass on the kit.

  • the fill at 1:07 . . . fking killer

  • @GaryNull hardly heard it as a fill...but yeah...very filigree

  • Jeff is so good its sick RIP Legend

  • the more I see of mike porcaro the more I am

    often impressed his play

  • god damn those jeans are 80´s..

  • cool the bass drum at 0:11!!! Jeff GREAT!!!

  • Jeff's groove is perfect. Simple, but spot on. Reminds me of Phil Gould in some ways... He adds a "feel" to the music that other drummers don't have.

  • @utahdrumtech Funny you should mention Phil Gould. Jeff had said that Phil was one of his favorite drummers to listen to. Phil does have great touch and spot-on fills. Still, nobody played the hi-hat with more distinction than Jeff. JR Robinson is also tremendous on the hat, but Jeff had greater texture. Find the CD "Guitar Workshop in LA" to hear some of Jeff's deepest pockets ever. RIP JP.

  • Brothers of a GROOVE ~ This is a master piece

  • jeff!!!!! you are the best!!!!! best shuffle!!!

    you're groove is perfect!!!!

  • love the sound of that bass!

  • simply nobody better. I love SImon Phillips work just as much..but, Jeff was Jeff.

  • perfect groove and tightness - amazing drummer

  • oh my god! AMAZING!

  • so great and perfect !!

  • Man, Jeff's Groove is just in that Perfect pocket he always had. And Mike's groove just suits the tune Perfectly. Just not a single flaw in this Groove. Both Jeff And Mike are very Underapreciated musicians, Also a question. When he combines hitting two symbols, like A crash and Splash, does anyone know what that might be called?

  • I miss you Jeff.....

  • I found out only AFTER his death how great a musician Jeff Porcaro really was. He played and recorded with the WORLD'S most famous and excellent musical personalities. I won't say Jeff was the greatest drummer ever, that's a matter of personal discretion. But you cannot blow off his resume and career accomplishments. Personally, I love his crisp, clean sound and his subtle creativity. He never overplayed the song and always delivered just the perfect amount of emotive energy...a true GREAT.

  • RIP jeff killer drums nothing could match him

  • RIP Jeff! Insanely good snare sound!

  • Jeff was awesome, but Mike too is great. Sorry for him been ill now.

  • this has such a deeeep wonderful pocket, i'm diggin it...:)

the hi hat at 1:13 sounds so hungry...it's simply unique

  • JEFFF , simply the best !!!! greaaattt !!

  • agreed

  • Jeff was a Legand!!!!!!!!!!!

never will there be a better Feel player

  • Genius..

  • obviously the groove is ridiculous but how about that fill at 1:08 .. I love Jeff Porcaro

  • The groove is simple, not ridiculous. And buddy, drumming is not about how many notes you play, but how you play them. Enjoy the swing

  • I think he meant ridiculous as in awesomely grooving

  • that is so slick

  • Smooth drumming man.................

  • we love you Jeff !!!

  • Is that a Pearl F/F piccolo snare he uses here?..i heard he had one, just wonderd?

  • No it's not to deep F/F piccolo is only 3.5 " deep. I have one it's over 20 years old in secoya red still as loud as F**k and tight crisp and snappy and so good for funk grooves.

  • Everyone on youtube has something to say about the greats..But I see no vids?

  • what cd is this?

  • This version of the track has unfortunately not been released on CD.

The tune "Creatchy Stomp" is, however, available on the 1986 album "Cuba" by David Garfield's band, Karizma.

The version featured on that album is very different from this version, though.

  • @80eren Hi! You can download RealPlayer for free, and download the video from YouTube. Then, you can convert the video to a music file also by using RealPlayer. Then you can enjoy it!

  • His playing is so smooth, i could listen to this track all day!

  • There could only be one Jeff Porcaro.

    Gone way too soon.

  • This is great groove. I had this in VHS when I wad 12-years old, and still have it, after seventeen years. I never figured out, what is the cymbal setup here. I would guess that it's Paiste Line -bronze, maybe Sound Formula or something like that. Anyone knows?

  • he is officialy my idol i have this CD!!!

  • Jeff rules! i visited LA right after his death in 1992 and all the musicians i talked to was totally in shock. He meant a lot to the whole community of musicians. Can you imagine this guy saying in an interview in 88 that "my timing sucks"(!!!) You will always be remembered Jeff!

  • Reading the credits at the end of the video , it should be noted that the only time Jeff played Pearl drums was live or in front of a camera . Every recording he ever made was done on Gretsch drums .

  • Jeff manages to make me appreciate a DX7!!! LOL

    God on drums.

  • hahaha ... no shit ... the DX7 is the most hideous and cheezy instrument to ever be played .... but it is tolerable when jeff is wailing over it

  • His pivot pedal technique at 0:11 is unique

  • Yeah I still wonder how this is technically and physically possible. Frustrating... :)

  • It's sounds like double bass....but it's just that magical touch Jeff has to do amazing things without making it to "flashy".

    My number 1 4-ever!

  • such great footage!

    thank you for posting this~

  • There´s just a lot of drummers over the years that are perfect, with great skills, feeling and timing. it just becomes a matter of taste ... I like Jeff the most!

  • What a natural! You can't beat this man's groove. Thankfully we can still enjoy his timeless playing.

  • i agree with you...i like this beat...interesting to imitate this groove...

  • Yep, Jeff was the man. He simply was in command. His drumming was powerful, innovative, crystal crear, with absolutely perfect timing - and it was musical: he didn't just slam over the rest of the music. There are a lot of great virtuoso drummers these days (Tony Royster Jr. anyone?), But noone can touch Jeff.

  • This is where its at. Jesus thats a groove.

  • Jeff and Mike, the perfect pair......

  • Its cool to see Jeff playing with his brother Mike who has a great groove of his own. To bad Steve wasn't on Keys to complete the trio.

  • so good its scary. RIP jeff

  • bra trummor

  • 1:17 !

  • What can i say about an angel on drum like this??

The best ever... THE GROOVE MASTER!!!!!!

  • The opening second of his playing, the hi-hat/snane and kick combination still amazes me even today!

Totally awesome. I for one thing music the world over changed the day he dies. Its all missing someing if you ask me and that something is a Porcaro groove!

  • IMO Jeff is the most talented drummer the world has ever known.

  • those killer open hi hats and the end are killer! and 4 e and a!! killer jeff lick he used over the years.
