I would save money and get a regular LS460L AWD. If you really need to show off and get the 600 than fine, but you don't really gain much of anything: Battery takes trunk space, you'll NEVER make up the price difference, and you can get everything in the 460. I'd personally take a 2010 Mercedes S550 over them anyways though, the S400 Hybrid is a (relatively) more logical car than the Lexus hybrid.
Also the merc S-600 is said to have lower emissions than Toyota Prius(a hybrid car)!!Now,a 6L engine is more environment friendly than a 1.3L engine(You'll have to buy a LS-hybrid to come close to that!).Ain't that something? You know what all this suggests?-Lexus learns from the germans and makes cars with all that reliability put in.So,essentially lexus cars are a generation of engineering behind them. Now,you'll talk about auto parking-it's not new and lexus had to give something extra to sell!
aakash272, a mercedes 6 litre with less emissions than a prius??? You'll need proof to convince me, not just what someone told you. "--is said to have lower emissions--" doesn't prove anything. I'm not being biased, if you actually do have real proof I'll change my mind & believe you.
Ok man I have proof:find the topgear vid on youtube itself named "New Mercedes S Class",length 7:28.The part that interests you is 6:02 onwards, though I advise you to go through the whole thing for fun sake!
And I was slightly wrong:the emissions are'nt lesser than prius but so impressive for an engine this size that the judges were forced to give the environment-friendly certificate to the S over prius. But I did some research and amazingly a 2.0l VW diesel engine HAS lower emissions than prius & civic hybrid.Apparently diesel engines are far more environment-friendly than petrols with an added advantage of massive torque.Wonder why they don't make diesel hybrids???
Stop acting like a hater! The S-Class can't touch the Lexus. I've owned both, and there is absolutely no comparison. Especially since Mercedes are now made in Brazil among other places. The only Euro that can probably come close is the Audi. Mercedes and BMW were once on top, but not any more. Lexus has taken the top spot and I'm sure they won't lose it like their predecessors. As a matter of fact, Lexus has set it's sight on cars like the Maybach. S-Class & BMW aren't even a factor anymore.
German brands now are all about just "brand name" and nothing else. Look at Merc, their reliability is sometimes even worse than Ford or GM, and that is seriously no laughing matter.
Toyota did some investigation before they sell Lexus, and one thing they found out about Merc and BMW was that they were EXTREMELY unreliable. Today, Lexus is the most reliable luxury car on planet, and the best selling luxury brand in the US for 8 years in a row.
I totally agree that Toyota did some investigation before they made Lexus-They saw how the germans make their cars and said to themselves "yup! that's how we'll make our cars too"!!I hope you're aware the Lexus sells elsewhere in the world too and it ai'nt doin as good as the germans.I agree the german cars have had mechanical faults in recent times but let's face it-Toyota taught the world how to make reliable cars,MERCEDES taught the world how to make CARS!!No japanese can take that away!!
One more thing-I love LEXUS and I'm NOT a german!!You should learn to accept both the advantages and shortcomings.Indeed Lexus cars are extremely reliable but the mechanical aptitude of the germans(europeans for that matter[I'm an Asian, mind you]) is better than that of japanese. That is to say they make better engines(AMG,M-series,S-line),etc.The japanese are good at electronics and it shows but their performance parts seem left out(transmission, suspension, chassis, safety).
I'm telling the following to you as a friend(no hard feelings) so don't feel bad.You must have been inside the S-class,so you must have seen the cleanliness of the dash and everything else(not as many buttons as the options it gives you). Now compare it with the Lexus which is over clustered with buttons not because it offers more, but because all features on offer are on buttons. The germans have integrated all controls in the screens controlled by a knob resulting in smooth dashboards.
The LS is noisy at high speeds and has a lot of wind noise(surprising for a car this expensive)which means you don't want to open the windows at high speeds or you won't be able to listen to the music even at high volume!!This isn't the first LS made by lexus and it has never happened before, yet they make such mistakes!
hey man, first of all, calm down. You're being so defensive of your car that it seems you feel you might've wrongly invested the money.I know the feeling when you don't get the on-road respect that you expect for the kinda money you've spent!!Now,when I say wind noise,I mean wind noise at speeds like 100mph.Take your car to those speeds, slightly open a window and find out the truth!Lexus LS is a great car but not enough to belittle all that the germans have given to the autoworld.
Why would you even wanna slightly open a window in the first place? I am not even sure if there is even a car that can still go quiet with the window like, slightly opened. I mean, scientifically, how can that even be possible?
Man,I think you're overthinking.I'm saying just bring down the power window at high speeds and you'll hear a wooshing sound which is'nt there in mercs. The aerodynamics of the car are such that the air is forced to move around the window area.Actually that's something I've read about LS600 and might be incorrect.Another thing, this ain't scientifically impossible:all supercars are without wind noise(which provides for huge performance inhibiting drag force).Obviously, nobody wants that happening!!
aakash I don't think lexus manufacturers had "window-wind-noise-reduction-at-high-speeds" on their agenda when designing their cars (is it even that necessary?) Maybe Mercedes designers were thinking, "hmmm let's say a guy is driving 230kmph & all of a sudden wants a smoke so he rolls down his window & is irritated by noise"... I don't think lexus people even cared about that. Besides There isn't even much opportunity to drive that fast in Japan without risking detection by those police sensors.
& if you actually care about infinitesimal irrelevant issues like drag force created by slightly open windows then buy a sports car for crying out loud... or there's always the lexus LFA (almost actually), buy that if you care so much about speed as to talk about window-drag-force. Well, I'm japanese but I actually agree with you on how german cars gave so much to the auto world. lexus wouldn't be what it is today without german luxury cars.
Lexus cars are like remakes of audi, merc, bmw except that they don't look as sophisticated as the europeans(I'm an asian, mind you). The dash interface is bland and clustered and similar to the previous gen of merc S.The present gen of european cars takes those infinite buttons and puts them in one single TV interface(COMAND in merc,i-Drive in bmw)which immensely improves the neatness of the dash.Indeed Lexus IS an overpriced, overfeatured toyota which doesn't know the meaning of luxury!!
That was pretty funny. Comparing a hideous-looking super unreliable 500k Mercedes-Benz to the luxury car that has the most advanced technology in the entire world.

This car is an overrated piece of junk. Save your money and get an LS460.
Oh, and unlike Lexus, the German brands actually innovate, have global appeal, a rich motorsport heritage and a variety of engine and trim choices designed to appeal to different niches of the luxury market. Can't say the same for your Toyota with leather (Lexus).
What do the German brands innovate? New ways to rip you off?
Lexus has built a car that parks and drives itself that is the ultimate in luxury. It pulls away silent man!!! That is the coolest thing ever, and far more innovative than anything the Germans have come up with. (other than the first car)
They also have a sweet sports coupe (IS-F) and a new V-10 Hybrid Supercar on the way (LF-A).
The German brands, notably MB, have virtually given us 3/4 of all automotive inventions, literally. Lexus doesn't innovate, they perfect existing technology. Hyrbids were showcased by Audi/VW in 1985 but a lack of demand and interest meant the project was stopped. Furthermore hybrids have been around since the early 20th century. The German navy used hybrids (subamrines) in 1906 for crying out loud. IS-F? What's so special about the IS-F? It's an M3 clone with Yamaha engine tuning. LF-A? LOL
Give me an example of the 3/4 of automobile inventions. Because America has had more effect on the auto industry than Germany, so that would make anything more than 49% an impossibility.
Anyway, you seem like a hater to be coming to the Lexus video and talking shit.
Who cares about going 130, its a fucking limo!!! Go drive a 700 at 130MPH. Guess what, it's not all plush anymore either.
In the World of luxury cars, a QUIET and SMOOTH ride at NORMAL SPEEDS is what matters.
America + more effect on the auto industry? You just proved to me that you have NO CLUE. American car companies were at their peak in the 1950s and early 1960s. After that they went rock bottom. Innovation wise, Mercedes-Benz is the company that did it all. I am not even a Mercedes fan but I give credit where credit is due. The world of luxury has many niche markets. Lexus caters to one. And FYI Lexus cars are so overrated in terms of quietness. My mom has an ES350 (aka "glorified Camry").
And who cares if a car parks itself? You can get such an option on a lowly VW Touran. If you can't parallel park then you shouldn't be driving. Of course the LS600h pulls away silently at low speed, it's powered by an electric motor at this stage. Try driving one on the Autobahn at high speed and this thing is noisy as hell. Go read CarEquipe review of the LS600h when they took it on the Autobahn. At 130 mph it was noisy and the high speed handling suffered because of the excess weight.

Nowadays, it's all about technologies. Heritage or history don't mean shit.
It's true. The ones who buy BMW or Merc are the ones who only care about HERITAGE and this one thing, GERMAN.
