  • Why do the 2-BUS and 2-BUS lt sound different? They should sound exactly the same. Neve is the winner here, but I actually quite like the PM8 mix. Did you only sum 8 channels for the PM8 or did you have multiple units?

  • @randomgong Sorry, there is no information available. All these stereo files are from the KEYS (German Keyboardmagazin January 2007)

  • @jeromelester8 Oh, okay, I misunderstood. Cool video though :)

  • Audio is sooo subjective, depends on what you are looking for. Very nice video though!

  • The finalists are Dangerous 2Bus, SPL MixDream and Neve 8816.

  • would love to hear the SSL X-Desk up in this shoot out!

  • I must say 2bus sounds much more sweeter than the others, Protools would be my second fave..

  • Did you use stereo expansion on the SPL?

  • @deetgeluid Exacty! Thank you for your comments. Cheers!

  • SPL sounds a little to HIFI for me. 3rd one (don't know the type/brand) is most bass heavy.

PM-8 is quite ok. x-sum lacks balls. Whats up with the t-tech? Where's the stereo image? sounds like phase problems. But then listen to the presence of the neve!

Best presence/low end/high end combination for me.

    Great vid!!!!

  • SPL and NEVE

  • wow..PM8 sounds very close to 2 bus

  • The Neve is punchier as well as the stereo image is better comparing to the other mixers. The 'mix Neve wide' though sounds over compressed to me. I suppose this unit with Apogee converters would give a good result.

  • Of course my favourite sound is the TubeTech :-) !!!

  • could somebody tell why a musician or producer needs a summier ?

  • @almazonly Just compare it with digital summing inside your DAW.

I once mixed a live band on two Yamaha 01V's. Horrible!

Up to about 6/8 channels is ok, but when the summing gets to complex.... Oh my dear!

Of course nowadays with internal 32 bit floating point processing things are MUCH better...

  • Neve Wins

  • Neve Wins

  • There is a Amek bc3 to sell on ebay, also nice for summing mixes.

  • SPL w/limiter jumped level significantly (didn't really help the sound though. Neve with the Wide setting was my favorite, but only because it felt cleaner and more open (again, unsure if the level jump just caused a perception difference). I was listening through a set of Adam A7s with no sub.

  • I like the way the tubetech handles the bottom end ... and the mix is so detailed. I am about to buy the Neve but in this example it sounds a bit untidy. Hmm. Of course, auditioning high-end audio gear via streaming internet video is possible not a very accurate reflection... although it does give some indication of how well mixes translate into contemporary compressed media...

  • Neve wins, but I buy 2 bus for sound vs. price.

  • Neve all the way.........

  • Wow, there's a lot bigger differences between different units than I would have thought. Thank you for a very enlightening video!

  • The Neve hands down. Worth the extra $

  • THE TUBE TECH IS THE BEST BY FAR HANDS DOWN! LISTEN TO THE GLUE BETWEEN THE BASS AND THE KICK. ALSO LISTEN TO THE HIGH HAT IT IS NOT AS HARSH AS IN SOME OF THE OTHERS. ALSO LISTEN FOR THE SPACE BETWEEN THE MIXES. THE TUBE TECH IS SO WIDE. TEST BY SWITCHING BETWEEN THE ONE BEFORE.

  • Cool video but the chosen example track, gawd!

  • @lumenaughty your right that the neve sounds pretty damn incredible but there is also a huge price difference :P I did really like how the 2 bus sounded too.

  • mixer porn

  • Man, the TubeTech sounds almost like bad compression! Jeromelester, do you have these files available as uncompressed PCM?

  • @dannthr Sorry, i don't have these files. All these stereo files are from the KEYS (German Keyboardmagazin January 2007) .The Tube Tech has got tubes. This is why it sounds compressed(Tubes compression/limiting)

  • @jeromelester8 Ah well, thanks anyway, and thanks for posting this video.

  • Oops no hang about...

HERE is the full title .. to that wee REMASTER that'll have U as confused as a March Hare .. in the middle of M8ing season

Seven Spanish Angels Play Harmonic Cordophones - 64.77 Million Ch of Unidentifiable Ficticious Audio

    And it's YT watch code?

    watch?v=EGdJVV1SdDY

  • hahaha.

Actually- by simply scrolling DOWN and thus remving the visual video

    (from view)

    AND just listening.?

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in tonal quality or even recorded quality

All you have done is simply LOOPED the track into a continuous PLAY until 2.12

At which point -- you started altering the RECORDED VOLUMES UP & DOWN - to & from a normalised setpoint

AND then you were lifting recorded LEVELS Up & down -- to give an overall different effect.

    ?

IT is "all" the same version

  • @QUIX4U It's all been done right and correct!. You call me a lier. You're the lier! It's all the same version"only for you". I'm sure you're not an expert, if you can't hear the diffrences!

  • @jeromelester8 Ok smart A(r)s .. try figuring OUT -- exactly HOW - I did this .. as a fully summated final REMASTER. (and for your benefit .. i simply plonked it -- across Ur video -- as a response (and thus -- THAT ACTION - took it away from the video that it HAD been sitting upon .. for the last few months)

The video which I have responsed - to U:

Is .. basically -- something akin to ?

Seven Spanish Angels .. playing their harmonic Cordophones

  • @QUIX4U Allright, do what you wanna do...

  • @jeromelester8 Ok .. then U won't MIND.. approving a silly wee "responce" video on this one of your's .. of mine .. being as it is .. just a MONO .MP4 Nokia cellphone video -- of a small analogue system .. (which I currently have ... just a hanging on my wall.) eh?

  • @QUIX4U Go for it!

  • @QUIX4U "In all my life I don't believe I've ever heard such bullshit. Even from you, a master of bullshit. You know it's a lie ,it'll always be a lie. ...

  • @jeromelester8 Yep-- as I said (& U'v just confirmed) YOU LIED.

Maybe someday U will actually GET to hear this "effect" inside a working analogue 13 ch surround sound system (for real) & then U2 will know that I did actually speak the truth & that VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE was heard (because U didn't do ALL the mixing's INSIDdE EACH & EVERY BOX) U just did the finals ON A PRE_MIXED "downmix" ? which- understandibly- U forgot all about (as that does NOT show any differences- inside final results).

  • Great video, thank you very much for taking the time of doing this test. For me, Tube-Tech and Neve win hands down, they are the most coloured and that is what I would be looking for in one of these pieces. I'm listening through ProAc Studio 100's with a Quad amp.

  • @babymicrobe The SSL X-Desk is also very good - more precision in the low end than the NEVE. Check this link!

  • @jeromelester8 Thanks for the link! I actually know the XDesk quite well, its great and as you say very precise but for my taste a bit too clean and neutral, imho it starts coming to life when you integrate it with some nice outboard. I really like the sound of the Neve, it has a slightly larger than life quality (maybe because of the transformers) which I find very appealing.

  • <<<Audio Cable, XLR Male-1/4" TRS Male, 10' Long

  • hello i'm a beginner.. could u explain the signal routing from an audio interface to the summing mixer and back to ur daw?? i'm more interested in the ssa 2b.. do i need converters for this?? i'd like to use all the outputs so i'd appreciate a proper interface suggestion too..

  • Wow, the ssa 2b is a nice piece! Especially if you mix only in your DAW without tubes and outboard. I don't know wich interface you've got!? For example if you've got a MOTU 24I/0 (24outs), apogee ensemble(8outs) - connect these 8-16 individual output1/4-inch phone with the ssa 2b XLR female input with this cable<<<<<16-channel Snake, XLR Male-1/4" TRS Male, 10' Long. Then connect the LEFT RIGHT XLR male output from the ssa 2b with the 2 1/4-inch input (interf)with 2 of this cable

  • @jeromelester8 thank u so much!!! :) do i need converters for motu??

  • @TheSoyuken surey no! converters are inside the motu.

  • @jeromelester8 thx again!! ur videos are great!

  • OMG! 2.Bus Regular is amazing!!

  • This is a great video. Thanks!
