hide died because of an accident that happened while he was drunk..he used a terry cloth to relieve the tension from the muscles in his neck and most probably slipped or fell asleep due to his alcohol-induced state..

I think the saddest outgrowth of this was Toshi's sudden seclusion. He got involved with a cult a few months after Hide died, and they took advantage of him. He walked away from them, and was able to mourn in a healthy way later on. Thank God for that.
