  • But how can childs be dead while macready is alive

  • @NewNickostudiosX Childs was infected. If you watched Macready's chess plotline you would notice that he knew Childs was infected. Google it, it's really complicated.

  • whatte hell 'ey dudes here are arguing about sience fiction it's fiction fools somebody made it up u don't have to argue about it

  • Blake is like "OMG ! I heard your tapes , they were good !" XD

  • @RGavin11 hahahahah! XD

  • mcready is infected with herpes

  • Total bullshit.

  • Yeah, I don't think McReady is infected. The monster in the first movie built a ship out of helicopter parts to escape Earth.... really don't think its mind would have changed. Also the infected are supposed to attack humans when they're alone with another human.

  • new thing movie out this year in october! yay! its a prequel on the norwegian camp though!

  • this supports the other ending they talked about on the DVD. One where Macready is talking to someone in an office after having a blood test.

  • Mac is infected, Childs dies in the game from freezing to death. How do you think this "infection continued" there were only 2 people left in the end of the movie and Childs dies from cold weather. Mac is the infected one infecting people.

  • @Kamissick when you go back to the spot where they where in the movie Mac is gone and child's dead body is there so that's interesting, but theirs part 2 of the movie coming out soon. I think it will blow ass though it's not being produced by carpenter.

  • @Kamissick and blake i was reading on wiki and played the game i did look on the computers form a part where he gets nothing form the testing lab he is infected + the virus is hide from blake making it look like hes not exposed to the virus. The virus is holding him as a host making sure that hes human until he...well im not sure!

  • That makes no sense though ! Why would MacReady then assist Blake in killing the Boss Thing ? As with the film there are endless "how" and "what if" questions thrown up....not least is how and who built the massive underground base seen in this game ? But let's not take it too seriously.... I am looking forward to the prequel though release has been put back from April to October ! I am trying not to think about it any further. Hopefully they pull it off.

  • @pistol71

Makes perfect sense? The Things goal is to reach civilization and infect the whole world. It obviously is trying to gain Blake's trust so it can be brought back to civilization and infect the rest of the world.

  • @pistol71

    What Abduhi said.

  • I believe MacReady isn't infected at all.

  • @TheXenomorph1

    I believe he is =)

  • @Kamissick there really isn't anything to show whether he is infected or he isn't. Nothing in the end of the game really tells you much.

  • the game was great but the story really made it look shit still best action horror game ever

  • this game blew

  • this game was a shit

  • @ACxaY you might be a dork... this game had a lot of great production on it. and it was one of the first games where you could command a small team. It had a outstanding light management, awesome fire effects, the characters and monster design were great, the sound and music were excellent and it had a lot of scary moments.

The only little black spot for me is the movement, that wasn't perfect (nor that bad either) and that throwing granades was more difficult than it should be...

  • Wait...should this be considered a good or bad ending?

  • @johntheechidna1 bad for sure......twas lame

  • Well, I meant that it if should be a good or bad ending, because R. J. McReedy should have frozen to death in the movie...and this means that the only way he survived was that he became infected by this Thing....

  • @johntheechidna1 very... very... bad.

  • If MacReady was, in fact, The THING, then his blood would have defended it-self when tested. Watch the movie with the commentary, it might answer some ?'s for ya.

    GO RAIDERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i heard their making a remake or prequal to The Thing, i Reallllly hope they go through with it

  • @IIIArrow711 to tide you over, check out the fanmade film "The thing II" on youtube. It's broken up into 4 parts.

  • I liked the films deleted ending scene where 1 of the dogs runs away from the burning U.S outpost :D

    Scary huh?

  • I think there's a special edition of the movie which has a ending where Childs dies and MacReady get save from a U.S squad , next thing we se him do a blood test like in the film and nothing happen that prove that MacReady wasn't infected....

  • wait, so Kurt Russel survived months of arctic exposer and an uber explosion? How is that even possable? And then he comes and saves you in a helicopter? Were did he find one that wasnt frozen? Its corny enough that he saves you.

  • @Telonelemon3 kurt russel?, that is the actor, the character is Mac Ready :S

  • MacCready is the thing. It's so obvious. How else would he of fucking lived in the Antarctic winter during a snowstorm. Childs died because he was purely human. The end of the movie leaves us with interpretation just as this game does.

    Just think about it.

  • @RoyalOblivion MacReady kills the thing and Childs apears at the end and he is clearly infected, Mac Ready can survive using the flametower of Childs as a torch or something and live in a cave or something :S

  • Note to the person who minused my comment - I MAY WELL BE RIGHT!!!!! NA NA NAN NA NA!!!!

  • What happend to his crew (the in-game crew)?

  • the thing movie does not end like this

  • the game is where the movie left off

  • This is a sequel to the movie.

  • No way that MacReady is INFECTED!

they killed that bastard in the end how did the alien SURVIVED!

  • no he had a drink after they blew up the complex with the other survivor

  • So? you mean the bottle had the virus?

  • The trace-saliva around the bottle's opening may have. MacReady also leaves Blair a little bottle of booze when he's locked-away in the tool shed; and Blair turns out to be infected later on...

  • @Litshttam dude i honestly didnt think of that before, i figured one of the aliens got blair from entering the cabin but your idea makes sense huh

  • Thank you! And another thing, I always found MacReady erasing the end of his recording - then recording another ending "...there's nothing else I can do, just wait..." - a little odd...

  • @Litshttam Well you have to remember blair probably got infected during the autopsy. He poked the kennel-dog-thing remains with a pencil and then he put the pencil up to his mouth like a dumb ass. The clip's on here somewhere. Then not too long after that he started going nuts. Which could have been part of the thing's plan to isolate himself so he can have time to build the spaceship.

  • @dealmaker007 Good point, mate. You know, the thing about The Thing (sorry!) is it's so open to interpretation, thusly is so re-watchable! The game "sequel" kicks ass, too.

  • @Litshttam Another thing that I thought was interesting...when you go back and watch the kennel sceene...after Childs lights the thing up with the flamethrower, it doesn't get to burn very long before 2 people rush in and put it out with the fire extinguishers. Those 2 were Norris and Palmer, who we find out later are Things.

  • @dealmaker007 LOL Bloody hell, mate, you're right! That hadn't occurred to me before. What do you make of this - whoever tampered with the camp's blood supply (by unlocking the fridge, not forcing it) got the keys from when Windows drops them in shock (which is heard not seen) seeing Bennings being assimilated by the Thing?

  • @Litshttam Yeah that is right, anyone could have gotten those keys at that point. Well I guess we can rule out Bennings lol

  • @dealmaker007 Yeah, certainly wasn't him!

  • @dealmaker007

    Good point dude!!

  • @Litshttam

Blair was mostly likely infected by whoever may have visited him in the shed.

  • i mean no but how come he's not dead and turning into the thing or acting wierd?

  • simple, back before Chuck Norris was uber badass, there was Kurt Russel, that's the only explanation i can think of.

  • @Iwant2slideS13 thumbs up1

  • @Iwant2slideS13 you do know chuck norris was in a movie with bruce lee he got killed but bruce lee was killed but still uber badass

  • @Iwant2slideS13

    Who is Chuck Norris?

  • Comment removed

  • @Iwant2slideS13 Actually Chuck predated Kurt, but Kurt would be a great successor.

  • @boriska808 When someone drinks from the bottle they backwash, meaning some of their saliva gets in with the drink. It takes at least 1 cell to infect you so if Childs or Mac were the thing, they would have infected one and other. Another possible theory is that, if the thing has successfully imitated a character for a long time they become that character so even if Macready is infected it wouldn't change his personality. The infected Palmer was a better example during the spider head scene.

  • @Shanethefilmmaker In the game you find Child's frozen to death, yet look at the ending there RJ seems fine. Pretty one sided, the only thing is that he is a fan favorite so they are slow to accept it. Also the alcohol may have killed the cells of a simple backwash.

  • @Kravockian True but the thing so far only dies by incineration. We never know if it dies from other burning chemicals such as alcohol. Plus just because Childs is frozen doesn't mean he couldn't be the thing since thats how it survived the first movie.

  • @Shanethefilmmaker Oh no doubt, just my thoughts on such a great series thats been overlooked. I just find it hard to believe that childs could be frozen but RJ is relatively fine.

  • @Kravockian Well the thing each cell of it, has a sense of self preservation, in my opinion the Childs thing wanted to be frozen so it can be discovered and infect more whilst the Macready thing is self loathing and wants to be the only member of its species, so what does it do. It waits for someone help it. Ergo both can survive the cold while one chose not to freeze itself.

  • @Shanethefilmmaker That is a valid point except that the thing was only ever frozen because it was encased in ice, and an even better point is that they say childs is dead and when you see him you know hes dead. Also if they were both infected they wouldn't have a standoff at the end. I'm just pointing out that if the video game is cannon the most logical explination is that RJ is infected.

  • @boriska808

Correct. We followed Mac the whole time. Let's just say the game producers are nuts :)

  • oh crap kurt russel

  • the guy who does the main voice for the main character sounds more like macready than him

  • Could MacReady be infected? Well, he chuckles when he hands Childs his booze at the end of the movie. Remember Fuchs' warning to prepare one's own meals...

  • I never made it through this game. But I always believed that an infected MacReady would be the final boss since we didn't find him frozen to death with Childs. It would be terrible ironic, and it made sense to me about why Childs died and he didnt.

  • is that the guy from the film if it is way isent th main charecter in the game in the film and 2 in the ending of the film the place goes on fire and blows up

  • McReady never died. You find the other dude in the Movies ending who was with Mcready frozen.

Its possible that McReady is infected, but I find it impossible.

  • That is the question how is child's frozen and mc ready in the chopper ? Why would Mc ready leave his friend to die in the cold ?

  • True, also in the end of the movie, everything was on fire.Wouldnt they be warm, and I agree why would he leave his friend to die in the cold. Also Mcready says "Its still out there..." in the movies end.IF Childs was the thing then that maybe why he is frozen and Mcready just ran from him.I dont know, because I dont see how he could escape.I thought all means of leaving the area were destroyed in the movie.

  • so the end justify the means .

  • while no one wants to believe MacReady is infected, it does explain how he survived and Childs didnt

  • @Mixwizzard35 and he just lasted 20 years in the snow and ice with no food, water, or shelte, and he didn't age a bit either? He's infected, no other way he could be there.

  • @VideoGameMaster56 the games timeline doesn't literally take place 20 years later....

  • @VideoGameMaster56 It takes place 30min affter the movie! 20 year who was the moron who gave you that idea. McReady discoverd the thing is one with all it's parts so he would have tried to kill you insted of help you kill it.

  • @Matrix70151 This trailer for the game.

  • @Matrix70151 A trailer for the game I watched before this video.

  • @VideoGameMaster56 You've gotta see the movie first to understand what I said.

  • @Matrix70151 the game ITSELF tells you its 20 years after. fucking moron. clearly you havent even played the game so GTFO this video. The guy is infected, that is the real storyline, and its mission to get to civilzation. now STFU , who ever told you the game takes place 30 mins after the movie is a the fucking moron. stop disrespecting random people when u know fuck all about this game

  • @emz30p4 OK smart guy! explain to me if McReady is infected and had the helacopter then it's already won! So why does he bother to help you? One life over the million he could infect? Which means he's clean!

  • @Matrix70151 because he doesnt want to risk dying just to infect Blake when he could help blake, trick him, and then get back to civilzation with him so its much easier to stay alive. and infect others

  • @emz30p4 Blakes the only survivor! killing him would be easier than helping him and the ceature could infect Blake for him.

  • @emz30p4 They maen 20 years after they made the movie not the stroy line!

  • @Matrix70151 lets stop argueing and make love

  • @emz30p4 Unlees you're a girl 16 to 18 I don't think so!

  • Comment removed

  • @Matrix70151 infect me like the thing <3

  • @emz30p4 No offece but if you're by any chance a guy I'd be more inclinded to kill you rather then infect you if I where the Thing! LOL!!

  • @emz30p4 The game itself does NOT tell you it's 20 years in the future... What are you on about?

  • @Mixwizzard35 I don't know, if it takes place twenty years after the movie, it would be hard pressed to assume he survived. Though it certainly doesn't spell it out for you. Neither did the film, I'd have to go with the notion that Macready's 20 year survival was due to infection.

  • @Psychowilly In the game I remember, it was not 20 years. It was only 6 months. Remember in the movie they were waiting for a new group to arrive? You are part of that new group in the game.

  • @wmthomas28 Hmm.. Must of read that wrong. Still six months is a long time to be stranded

  • @Mixwizzard35 Well each infected with the thing has a self preservation instinct, so even if he was infected he would care less if you (game character) Destroyed one of them.

  • Mcready is life? I think he died end movie the thing.

  • Fuck thank u man i never go to beat it but i loved it and the movie

  • i got dead space today and it was like...the thing! but in space

they're both awesome games...but i never completed the thing, i played it for an unbelieveable amount of time (not being stuck, just doing the storyline) and it got too long so i gave up

  • omg so fucking awesomeness cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the endings the best part with mc cready

  • Holy Shit awesome wow

  • holy shit he lives

  • Damn man, you didn't include the credits which had "the world is after me" ! It WAS the best ending song ever.

  • still doesnt say if macready was infected or not, but a thing II was in development, ive seen a screengrab, thankz 4 upload!

  • HOLY FUCK!! When I beat the game right when the last boss died the computer said "disk is dirty" I never knew that.....holy fuck....that's so cool.

  • i hears that they make a PREQUEL.

  • Question Really Remains , How did the Pilot Survived ?

And this Ending is nothing compared to what we are getting nowaday.

Playing a game long enough to get a Cliff-Hanger Ending ? Sheesh.

I really want Long Ending Scenes.

Even in MegaDrive , we could get the Endings of this Length.

    Otherwise , A Great Game.

  • The character you play as in the game sounds more like Kurt Russel Than the voice actor they got for mac.

  • yea. the flametrowder will run out but its one option to explain why mac survived, but i think he is the thing..... No happy endings......

  • LOL!

  • @FUimbetter666 LMAO

  • If u didnt know the horror movies and games have to end like that, because its much exiting by that way. I havent seen eny horror movie whit happy end, allways the bad guy or alien survive, because its Horror. So i like the ending in the game and in the movie, because u cant know what is gouying to happend.

  • ITs Science Fiction, horror feeds on your feers, Sc-Fi twists your ideas and what ifs to terror... Hence science being ideas that is proven right or wrong... right or wrong dont always have happy endings yeah...

  • Regardless of what happened in the deleted scenes of the movie, the theatrical version is how the story ended. It ended with us ultimately not knowing, even though it seemed like Childs and Mac were going to freeze to death.

The game ended similarly. We see Childs frozen body, but that doesn't mean he's not infected. He could very well be a frozen assimilated thing. Same with Mac. Maybe he survived the 3 months and remained human. Maybe there was a left over thing that infected him.

  • The movie and game never had a definitive ending, so it leaves the viewer/gamer to make his or her own conclusions. The Thing (Movie) was one of the first films I saw that had an ending that left you hanging. It was original.

Now that crap is way over played with movies and games. Invest 20+ hours in a game, and get the short minute ending that doesn't solve anything. That gets old real quick. I want to sit back an watch a nice lengthy ending to tie everything together.

  • Now why can't they make games with really long ass endings like in Metal Gear Solid...long ass endings are the best rewards.

  • Not After Long ass cinematics...

  • If u are wondering how mac survived is becouse he is one of the things, or he survived because childs had a flamethrowder, mac could use it for keeping himself warm, but i think that he is the thing.

  • But Flamethrowers do eventually run out.

  • I thought that little twist at the end of the game was a brilliant finsih

  • The book is brilliant.

  • Honestly, I don't think Macready (Kurt Russell) survived. I remember beating this game and the ending a few years back. The "thing" can mimic any creature it wants. At :28, look closely at Macready's face. You will see what looks like a "third eye" between his sunglasses. And since the "thing" can imitate anyone, I think it got to Macready, killed him, and assumed his form. That's my theory.

  • good theory

  • good theory there

  • damn dude, you are sad, its the nose part of his glasses....go write books u got nice imagination

  • i think that looks more like the middle bar of his shades rather than an eye, if it was an eye then it must be in front of his shades which wouldnt make sense.. i also played tis game too btw. not a diss just dont think its an eye.

  • I won't like to reject your theorem, but you know these thoughts inside my mind, they say "and why would this 'thing' in McReady will help in the killing the worst boss?"

  • "and why would this 'thing' in McReady will help in the killing the worst boss?" - Well IF he was infected, he helped himself to get away from the cold Anartic. Since the player destroyed all means of escape. The airplane, the flying saucer. Helping the player killing the boss was a necessary "evil" on the side of the Thing to gain the trust of the player. And revealing himself on the chopper to soon would have resulted to a crash and noone would have gotten away. But only IF McReady was infected

  • I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but John Carpenter (the director of the movie) had explained that Childs died from freezing (and that was confirmed in the game) and MacReady was rescued, given a blood test, and confirmed to be human. But, they didn't run that scene because it gave the movie a more Nihilistic ending if it hadn't been played.

  • Wrong.

what youre describing is the (never released) alternate happy ending which they made incase test audiences didnt like the original one.

    AND:

"In 2004, John Carpenter said in an Empire Magazine interview that he has a story idea for The Thing II, which centers around the two surviving characters, MacReady and Childs."

Childs survives, but Carpenter didnt get people to give him enough money.

  • cooooool

  • rented this game never saw the movie when i did. Had a fun time playing.

  • go Macready! Badass!

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • yay macready survived

  • Oh Bullshit this guy is NOT Kurt Russel!

  • Isn't the guy you play RJ Mcgree.. Aren't they both RJ mcgree?

  • no RJ is kurt russels role in the movie

  • no that guy's name is blake. this picks up a few days after the end of the movie

  • It's a few hours actually, Like just after they blew up the base in the movie.

  • oh. that's how i thought it was at first but then i started thinking ''how did macreaty get a chopper?''

  • Dun DUN DUNNNNNN

  • i dont get it...how did he survive all that time after the movie?does that mean he also has become infected?

  • they probably rescued him in the end of the movie and still does his job

  • who did?Cuz at the end of the movie its him (r.j) and childs left alone.they both stare at each other and one of em said the fire will keep em alive for some time but eventually it will die out.there werent any bases near and during the movie windows tried to contact anyone but didnt manage to get anyone and at the beginning of the game when u explore the base you find childs who has died of freezing but R.J is no where to be found,up until the end that is so wtf happened between all that???

  • i don't know what i do i know is that it's doesn't have anything to do with the movie

  • well yes cuz you start at the base where the movie took place you find child's body, you also find the tape that R.J made during the movie to record evrything that had happened and at the end of the game your rescued by R.J who somehow managed to survive and find a working helicopter.A mystery that will most likely never be solved...unless vivandi universal decides to make a sequel...

  • i heard there's a sequel but i ment as it's not really related since some games based on film ain't really related to the movie like Beowulf the game

  • lol your right when you really think about it

the only relation the game has with the movie is the beginning and the end...still...i really liked both and am sorta disapointed by how things are turning out and from what you've told me,the "sequel"(if it does happen) gives me a little bit of hope to seeing a conclusion.hopefully they wont mess it up...

  • hopefully they don't reveal kurt russel's character is one of em and still takes place in antarctica

  • OMG, THATS SO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • this game was pretty hard, finished it eventually

pretty dissapointed with the ending though, could have been alot better

  • Yeah, the way it ended all of Antarctica would have to be napalmed.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! I've been wanting to see the endign forever! I alway thought that hat looked familiar!

  • this game is hard but fun

  • If you watch the extened ending that they made it show Mac. getting rescued and he goes to get childs but hes dead then it cuts to a secne in a lap where you hear to guys (im guessing military) talking about how Mac in not ifected. So idk maybe the game just doesnt match up to the movie. Hell i could be wrong if anybody knows for sure let me know.

  • in the snow for spring and the rescue mission, then it hijacked/recieved a helicopter (maybe one of the military ones?). When it arrived to pick up the infected Whitley and found Blake instead it turned the situation to it's own advantage, helping Blake killing Whitley and thus ensuring Blake trust and therefore spare him. This is horror after all, no happy endings. :p

  • at some point in the game, after blake is captured, you find out there was a strain of bacteria in blakes body that resembled the "cloud virus"(the thing virus). you find this out at a computer console in the room with all the cells. its been a while since ive played it, so i might be wrong

  • IMO there is close to no chance that the "MacReady" really is MacReady. If he survived why didn't Childs survive too? The body of Childs isn't burnt or mutated which proves Childs was human. The base was as good as blown up and there was no food there and if the cold killed Childs then MacReady would die too since noo human could survive three months in those conditions. The only reason "MacReady" helped him was in order to trick him thus ensuring global infection. The "MacReady" thing waited

  • this game kicks ass. most people disagree with me because its TOOO HARD for them... but i luv it!

  • this game fucking blows.

  • I didnt make it to far in the game. i made it past the first boss, that one that looks like a dog but theres a man on top of it. yeah that games bad

  • It's a good concept, just poorly executed.

  • yes they tell you what happens to childs on the first level you find his cold dead body.

  • This game had brought me a totaly mad,cos the savepoints are so placed well.

If you fight for lifing or you're in a war right now.Play first this game, and you will beat'm all!
