Listening to this and remembering other times he spoke up for the American Indian, I wonder why he never used his success and power to make a film that presented a more accurate, sympathetic view of Indian culture. It seems to me it would have had a more positive impact than his comments in interviews which can get a bit rambling and unfocused.

What torpedoed the idea was that no company would distribute the proposed projects he put forward. I saw an interview with him in his 70's where he discussed his anger about this subject.

am I the only one who notices when celebs do this? Marlon is SOOOO famous that he is reverent. He can take his time, answer or not, make the host squirm with his silence, be almost monk-like. It's the way celebrities make their fame the elephant in the room. It doesn't make me angry but I do find it a tad obnoxious. You're just another human buddy. Particularly when in every interview on record from the 50s -90s, he has refused opportunities to revel in himself in favour of discussing the plights and inequities imposed on others. Godlike? I think hijacking real life with the Oscars is worse. That was his point. Brando was well above having his ego polished with a little gold statue, and he consistently showed throughout his life, from very early on, that he'd much rather take a hit to his image if it meant that awareness of real humanitarian issues could be raised. In other words, he was too beautifully human to ever be understood as a celebrity (blubber, baldness and all).
