  • Hello Isabel & viewers of this video, I have a request and as this moving story appears to be a good place to reach the people I'm looking for, I hope it's okay that I post here.

I'm an actor & theatre practitioner in London, currently working on a verbatim project on the AMERICAN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM and needing willing participants to share their views & experiences. Please click my Channel for more info. I'm looking forward to hearing from you, Isabel, or any page visitor. Thanks.

  • the previous responder to your video is a complete asshole. its quite apparent all he is concerned with is himself. i am very proud you have come forward to explain your situation. lets just see if any drug company will be motivated to help you out!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you for the video

  • Isabel: How far is your town from the Mexican border? Do you have friends or relatives in Mexico that would allow you to "live with" them and guy into the Mexican IMSS system. That would require you to have a Mexican address and about $270 per year for insurance. Some problems might arise with your pre-existing conditions, but you should be able to get help there after waiting a year, and you might be able to purchase prescriptions more cheaply. Just a thought.

  • Damn, get off her back, basially you're asking her to choose paying for health care over rent! We're not asking the government to bottle feed us, we're simply asking for some help! Our government is spending billions of dollars on the war but they can't spend a few more on health care?!?!

  • You can't blame the government for your lack of health insurance. By your choosing not to work it is up to you to private pay. If you are denied Medicare/Medicaid b/c you make too much for coverage then its up to you to budget your finances to allow for private pay medical care. You people that want the government to cover you is just sad b/c you're too lazy to get a real job that offers real insurance.

  • She may not be working, but her HUSBAND is working. She is married. Spouses are supposed to be covered under most health insurance plans. So she should be covered, point blank.

  • you Americans talk of being autonomous, i.e., you mentioned and I quote: "You people that want the government to cover you is just sad..."

The Government is no charity, Democracy; you - fellow Citizen - installed a government in order to give - and sustain - laws and the common good of it's peoples.

  • Papillionbella -- do you know anything about any of the medical disorders she has? Why don't you look up Lupus in a medical journal. It certainly isn't a easy illness to deal with. I should know. I have it. And its hard to work and manage the disease, but I guess you'd rather accuse her of being lazy than think about that. Luckily, if I didn't want to work, I'd still be covered, because I live in Canada.

  • And you need to check your facts. There are no waiting lists for coverage here, and if I am in urgent need of any test, I get it immediately. Its only when testing isn't urgent that we have to wait a month, two at most. But I'd rather wait and not pay than live in the U.S. and be homeless from medical debt, because I totally would be right now.

  • papilionbelle, there are many families where both people are working and still cannot afford to work. she cannot work. it's not a choice. do you now what lupus is? (as she mentions towards the end of the video) it's extremely painful and many sufferers can barely walk or move. it IS up to the government to provide health care. that's part of taking care of your people.

  • In Canada, England, Australia and other countries that have national healthcare you have to get put on waiting list to find out if the government deems your procedure or illiness is worthy of coverage. There is a huge underground movement of people from Canada coming to the US for procedures like MRI's b/c they can't get there government to allow them the procedure.

  • In Canada your doctor determines whether or not you require an MRI and yes there is a waiting list depending on the severity of your case. Yes the Canadian system is not perfect, but it is making an effort to improve, which, of course, is no help to the women in this story.

I can't post a link, but search for "Wait Times in Canada" and refer to the Health Canada website for information on Canada's efforts to reduce wait times.

  • papilionbella, really? because everyone i've talked to who has socialized health care say that there is little to no waiting for any of that.

  • Why should the government cover your ass if you don't want to take responsabilty for your health care? By insisting that the government have nat'l or socialistic insurance you are essentually saying hey it's okay for "big brother" to make all your decisions.

  • go WATCH THE MOVIE and become informed before you say stupid things like that.

  • papillionbella, the gov. isn't making choices about your health care, just paying for it.
