    "Abraham, glad to know ya"

    Lol!!!! LOVE this movie!!!!

  • Hell is full of old Halloween rejects. xDD

  • Joanne Jonas and Lynne Thigpen.. Duet of this song. Dear Lord in Heaven, let that happen. Bring Lynne thigpen back to life first though.

  • I know they all had lead vocals for the various songs, but man, Lynne Thigpen could BRING IT - she could have done lead vocals for half the songs. She really could have had a career as a singer with that voice.

I love how in "Bless The Lord..." the way the women are showcased separately in parts - just a cute touch watching them sing and dance together.

  • Thumbs up if anytime you see Victor Garber in a movie or TV show you shout "JESUS!"

  • @RoxyMoron101 No one believed me when i said he played Jesus in Godspell... well i showed them <3

  • @RoxyMoron101 lmao, word!

  • Eating hotdogs while Abraham pours buckets of confetti on my head and angels play banjos. Yep, dat's my picture of heaven right there!

  • @ZacharyDBrooks LOL, sounds good to me!

  • Bless the Lord my Soul is my solo!! Well- not anymore, it ended today:(

  • Bless the Lord my Soul is probably my favorite song from this musical. Also, thumbs up for the Chief.

  • BLESS THE LORD MY SOUL 6:14

  • o, bless the lord my soul is my solo!!! this song is so good!

  • Anybody notice how incredibly difficult it must've been to keep NYC vacant?

  • i didnt know what was going to happen when she lifted her skirt up

  • @ 4:03 lol she hit him with a hot dog. I love this movie it's so kool

  • This is one of my favorite songs of the whole soundtrack.

  • "Look, if they don't listen to Moses and the prophets, they ain't gonna listen to nobody! Even if somebody should rise from the dead." That is one of if not my FAVORITE line in this movie, and as many great lines as there are, that's not an easy thing to do.

  • im in this play

  • lmao

at 3:37 someone gave him a wheel xD

  • Gotta love Lynne Thigpen, and the very Biblical text...

  • this movie is AMAZING!!! I LOVE it soo soo much!! NEVER get tired of watching it!! It reflect what I believe so well :)

  • thats sooo creepy. the hades part. sooooooooooo creepy!

  • Lynne Thigpen, whom I was fortunate enough to know somewhat, once told me a wonderful story. When she was a little girl growing up in Illinois (she was from Joliet), all the kids used to make fun of her by saying, "Thigpen, Thigpen, lives in a pigpen." And she would just scowl at them and say, "One day I'm gonna be a big star, and you'll all be sorry." After "Godspell," she was flown in to give a speech at her old grade school and she had them all removed from the audience before she'd speak.

  • @thedivinemisterm isnt that kind of against the whole point of the movie....not setting yourself against those who wrong you?

  • She's incredible. I can't believe it.

  • Oh, bless Lynne Thigpen ... she was so awesome!

  • This is my favorite skit..I love the dramatization in their facial expressions..it's classic!

  • I get to sing that song in our production of Godspell in may!

  • Bless the Lord my soul!!! Amen!

  • Did Lynne Thigpen make any records after this? Wonderful voice.

  • Wait a minute. The beginning of the Lazarus story begins on one stoop, and when the hotdog stand is shown, David haskell is at another stoop out of nowhere! Blooper!

  • yeah he seems to come out of no where through out the movie. like when they start singing all for the best he's not there than when they walk in a line he's all of a sudden in the back!

  • Oh, Bless the Lord my soul - His praises to be proclaimed!!! YEAH

  • the hades part creeped me out

  • Law, why did the hades part creep you out?

  • Thats sooo creepy, the music and stuff! ahh

  • it just confuses me, why do they have pies and ketchup? hahahaha

  • 2:30 is the best line. I was about to say the same thing.

It reminds me of ceebrities who love to make apperances as "fundraisers" and have their photo in People Magazine, all full of hot air.

But they never actually donate a dime to charity. They'll say "I'm donating my time" but they won't donate the price of a night at the Viper Room.

  • lynne die in 2003 from some cancer

  • Oh Bless the Lord my soul!!! Amen!! Yes!

  • THIS is why the entertainment industry has to allow songs/movie clips to be posted here. I read somewhere that the Chief from Carmen Sandiego did movies too, so I searched "lynne thigpen." And so I stumble onto a movie I never knew existed, and am treated to a marvelous performance of my favorite song from my favorite musical.

First thing tomorrow, I'm buying the movie and the CD- and I never would have done it if it weren't for this post. But first, I have 7 more parts to watch!! :D

  • Good! This is an excellent movie!!

  • fredj: Lynne Thigpen also did the voice of Luna, the moon, in "Bear in the Big Blue House" (a show my son loved when he was little). She had a beautiful singing and speaking voice!

  • On March 12, 2003, Thigpen was found dead at her home in Marina del Rey, California, by a friend; she had died of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 54. She had been complaining of headaches for several days. Drugs and foul play were ruled out by the coroner's autopsy, which found "acute cardiac dysfunction, non-traumatic systemic and spontaneous intraventricular hemorrhage and hemorrhage in the brain". - Wiki

  • eek. thats so sad.

  • yes, she was a great talent and also a great person

  • So I bought the movie, and I've either watched the full movie and/or a YT clip every day since. It's become an obsession- I've spent hours on Jeff Mylett tribute sites, for goodness sakes.

Thank you, napaholic. You've caused me to do things like replay 8:48 - 8:55 over and over and over so I can learn, and then do, ALL of the disciples' movements. Never mind how much time I've spent getting the WTC dance right.

I can't stop. Someone help me......

  • lynne thigpen....amazing woman...amazing talent....amazing voice....god bless her...this is one of my favorite songs from the show...and she sings the $#!* out of it!

  • *Range!

  • What a rang!

  • i never get tired of this! :D

  • i never get tired of hearing her sing this song. ;]

  • Same! :)

  • Ditto. Nobody loves the movie except all of us that have seen it a zillion times.

  • I sang this song in the Godspell the play it was really fun.

  • I thinks Lynne Thigpen sings it better than anyone else ever did! RIP.

  • She's dead? Man, she did this song better than ANYONE!

  • now I know Jesus and John, but I don't know who's who with the rest of the cast. can someone help me out please? :]

  • never mind. I got it now! :D

  • I'd forgotten how funny this movie is!!!! BRAVO!!!! I LOVE this movie!!! Thanks for posting it!!!

  • I love 4:05 to 4:14

    "BLECK!"

    "Sorry..."

and then when Jerry Sroka starts to try and eat the handle of the cart the next second...ah, such funny parts!!! I will never get tired of watching this movie. Never.

  • @julielaughs14 I love that part too. This movie is SO funny, I just love it SO much.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 It is so amazing, I love it. XD I wonder every other second how much of it was ad libbed. <3

  • lynne thigpen - awesome... I loves her.

  • this is like my favourite song from this musical i think. its definitely in the top 3

  • "No no no." "That's...not what the good master is telling us." LOL!

  • dj, what's so funny about that statement?

  • "Now what the Good Master is telling righ now is that there are about 100 million little tiny angels about yea-by-yea and they all take shorthand. And anytime yu do something silly, they write it in..." lol

  • "It's a secret" =) I love that

  • I love Abraham's wardrobe. Very Native chic lol =D

  • in our plau O Bless the Lord is b4 Turn back o man..

  • same here. What r u? I'm Lamar.

  • :D lol. hmm I'm Joanne.

Our script is all weird though...It switched the lines of me and the girl who sings "turn back old man"

  • I played Lamar as well :) very great personalities!

  • ours too. o.0

  • A few things, one. When the rich guy goes to jail, and the next thing you see is Jesus' long, skinny legs. That'd scare me because they were right on top of Robin.

Second, is when the angels are carrying Lazarus to Heaven, look at their faces. Its hilarious! XD

  • so what the good master is telling us is that there r a bunch of little angels about yeh by yeh XXDDDD this movie cracks me up sometimes

  • The song with Lynne Thigpen "Bless the Lord" was the

absolute best song and scene of the film!

    Great movie for it's day!

  • Great film for any day!

  • Haha one of my favorite parts is where they start celebrating and holding a parade for the "Good Samartian"- along with Jesus' correction.

  • The fascinating thing about the parable of the Good Samaritan is that.....a priest....a Levite (hierarchy or bishop) ignored & avoided the man who was robbed, stripped, and left for dead on the road.....

But the Samaritan (considered a non believer- Heathen) is the one who showed the man mercy & compassion.

...this has been witnessed in real life.

There is a profound lesson here.

  • From what I was told, the priest and the judge avoided the robbed man in fear that they too will be mugged (assuming the robbers were merely waiting for someone richer to come close enough to help.)

  • The point of Christ's parable is that those who puff themselves up as 'religious leaders' or 'pious ones' did not (and usually will not) help the man.

Who did? The man who was 'not of the faith'.

    This has vast spiritual meaning......

  • Ya think?

  • Mmhm:)

We have a "priest", a Levite - the priestly class/High Priests/"Doctors of the Law". This can easily be interpreted as "Lawyer" ....Canon Lawyer, that is:)

Regardless of the intentions of the writers of the book of this musical - they have said things here of great profundity.

Probably more then they realized.......that is one way that God works - usually through those who do not consciously/intentionally try to "do God's Will".

    ....it just happens.....

  • "If they won't listen to Moses and the prophets, then they won't listen to nobody, even if somebody should rise from the dead."

So true, just ask the risen Christ.

BTW, that is the scariest representation of Hell I've seen.

  • hehe im singing this in our school version

  • Miss Thigpen we miss you dearly, such a lovely woman...

  • i love gilmer. she's so funny.

  • Tpo me, Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell are two differant entitiies, so there is no need to compare.

  • oh jeez, i love godspell so much!

ever since my school did it for a musical [which was last week] i've loved it soo much!

it's amazing and has changed my life (:

  • Definitely one of my favorite numbers

  • omg same here

  • Whatever happened to Lynne Thigpen? I remember her from the Carmen Sandiego show. I had once heard a report saying that she died but I don't know if that is true or not.

  • Lynne died in March 2003 of a cerebral hemorrahage. We have lost so many of the original cast. It's really sad because they were all so talented.

  • Yes, my favorite actress :(

  • It is sad, I always get tears when I watch this movie nowadays. Its still a celebration of live so it can be tears of joy to see them performing together, knwing now the ones who are no longer with us. Lynne was very taleted and i was so saddened when they showed her death on the news.

  • She is Lynne Thigpen. You may remember her from her role as "Chief" in "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"

  • this woman is really good at singing! who is she? because it has the cast on the info but they don't actually often say who's who! lolz xxx

  • Napo, this made me start crying. I am have an emotional week. Thanks for posting. This is a good movie. I like it better that Superstar.

  • I love jesus christ superstar! but godspell is better .

  • her fingers fell off the chair thing ha ha ha

  • bless his holy name...what a great number

  • I love you Victor

    haha

  • Lynne Thigpen - what a great loss her death was.

  • Bless the Lord.

  • This movie is a real masterpiece, much better than JCS, it's clever and smart, allegoric and funny! Great music and especially GREAT Victor Garber!! Such a tender glance and smile! Love it!

  • I liked JCS... but only for the music. In terms of biblical accuracy, or deep points, it's pretty void.

  • I must agree, yoozuk. couldnt have said it better myself :D

  • Wich one was he.Robin Lamont looks just like Millissa Joan Heart.

  • david haskell was judas/john. is lynne the one who started the song??

  • Yes she was.

  • Quite a couple of people passed away from this movie. Most of the guys from AIDS and David Haskell from cancer.

  • This whole movie makes me grin from ear to ear, and I just adore Victor Garber. Is it available in stores on DVD? Please tell me how I can get it.

  • I'm not sure, try amazon and ebay.

  • @napoholic Yes it is. I have it on dvd.

  • i just downloaded all the parts from napholic and then put it on a dvd XD

  • @pgbflower2 it sure is! you can find it!

  • @pgbflower2 It is available on DVD and is one of the first movies I bought on that new fangled gizmo. Godspell continues to be my most favorite movie of all time

  • @pgbflower2 kind of funny to see Victor many years later in Cameron's Titanic with Leonardo DiCaprio

  • in the 21st century revival, Shoshana Bean *famous for Wicked and other* sang O Bless the Lord..It was some kinda crazy! Godspell is a living legend!

  • mp3? link? do share! i love sho!

  • I can not say how much I love this film

  • This scene always has made me laugh.lol!

  • Lynne was an angel when she was a live....despite her part in Lean On Me....

  • I love the end of Bless the Lord. Hilarious.

  • This is my favorite song. I love Lynne. She had such a great voice. R.I.P.
