just another reason not to like corvette, did anyone else know that that was their last season in the ALMS? What a great way to end your last race in Long Beach, In total THREE CORVETTES HAD PROBLEMS, AND TWO DIDN'T EVEN FINISH THE RACE!!
The impact with the BMW, which the officials deemed the BMW team at fault for. Bent the exhaust, which exits right behind the passenger's side door. This in turn caught the carbon fiber body panel on fire and it spread from there. The gas tanks of the vette are right behind that. The emergency response team did an excellent job of putting the fire out. I have sat in this very same car and know it's very hard to get out of even when its sitting still. Not to mention rolling and on fire.
For Sale Corvette Z6, This car is HOT!!!!! Also featured in video! J/k TG the guy in the car was ok and didn't die from suffication. Or heat induced trauma.
I was one of the first responders to put out that fire. That was the biggest fire I have dealt with. That was a VERY stubborn fire. We popped four bottles on it and we only had it contained. Thanks to the IMSA guys for getting there when they did, and congrats to all the corner workers that helped me: Bil Baldwin, Monty Lawler, and John Snow.
We did not have time to be scared. It only hit us after how big the fire was. I have been a marshall for 5 years and this year switched to Emergency Services. Funny how the action is following me!!!
I'm sure you already know, but the Vette that caught fire at Infineon was a GT1 factory C5R, this was the LG Privateer GT2 car. Very different cars for what it's worth.
I don't know, thank god boris is okay and able to walk away from that, but he should have just ditched the car instead of hitting the onboard fire safety system, it could have been much worse had that fire spiralled out of control with boris inside the vehicle. Things like these really show the safety of road racing cars, driver suits, and fire crews.

But what caused it? Was it a broken fuel line a fuel leak somewhere?

isn't it ironic that his car had flame paint design on it?

Boris has been smoking huge amounts of Reefer to dull the pain.

Just got an update from Borris, his face is swollen and his arms are burned, but he should be fine in a couple days.

That was great work guys. I am a marshal at Mosport, and know how scary that would have been.

Boris was teammate with Dale Jr. when his corvette caught fire at Infineon. What is it with these Vettes?
