I believe ddf0123 was talking about the tool u use to make the rays of the rim join the side (up to the top) in a concave way like a fillet but different... I had a hard time myself trying to cut the time of making rims... saw some useful ways in ur vid thnkx
Hi I hope u still be arround and see my question. Wht do u use to capture, edit and add a soundtrack to your video. I jus try with some shareware and free ware inernet available like "Freeze Screen Capture" and "Solveig AVITrimmer" but tey are very limmited. I don't know how big your video file is but mine is mor of 70 Mb and about 1.5 minutes long. I gues that's because of my video capturer. Would you give me a piece of advise
For video capture I use WME9 (Windos Media Encoder 9) which is free off of Microsoft's download website.
But for video editing, compiling, and rendering I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and Adobe After Effects CS3 which is not free. you can check these out by visiting Adobe's website. Under products select Production Premium CS3, that is the software suite I bought.
A good free alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 is Windows Movie Maker which comes preinstalled on XP or Vista I believe.
Just a question, why didnt you use an datum axis and datum plane in the middel of the rim and use the datum plane as a start and then use it to place the inside of the rim and the holes with an instant feature, like circualre array? (sorry for bad english im dutch so :(that why)
iono, just did it this way. Your way would have worked too, but I think it would have been more work. I already had a datum plane in th emiddle of the rim, that's how I modeled(?) the center in the middle of the rim ring, but then if you watch, I also made the spokes at the same time as a single peice with the center. Besides, I still had to do the geometry to figure out where the first hole was so it was't that much more work to just make 4 more.
3 i made a hole that was deeper than the wheel was.
4 i made a datum plane in the middle that was elevated.
5 i sketched a sketch on that datum plane and used the diameter of the hole i used earlier as a constraint(just sketched a circl the same diameter as the inerdiameter of the wheel.
6 i extruded the sketch with the boolean(?) set to unite. and selected the rim as the uniting body.
7 i face blended the extruded sketch and the outer rim
8 i sketched the hub of the wheel again and extruded it with a positive boolean.
9 i used 1337 geometry to place the lugnut holes on the wheel. and extruded them farther than the thickess of the hub using a subtract boolean. after that i chamfered the edges of the lugnut holes.
10 i made a cicular pocket on the bottom side of the wheel. and face blended the sides of the pocket to make that dome shape.
11 i did that thing that is like chamfering, but the edges come out smooth (can't remember the name)on the inner edge of the rim, made a new datum plane that encompassed the whole whell that was exactly half the depth of the wheel and mirrored that feature i can't name to the other side.
Last question: hmm what option did u do for the first few steps - like making the outer circular rim - i see in ur video that maybe you used 'subtract' feature - lemme know what feature is that - looks simple - i did a simple 2d sketch and used 'revolve' feature for the circular rim
Question : how were u able to mate (i mean that curve mate) the inside sketch to the circular part of the rim - i did make a datum place that is in b/w the circular part - then did the sketch and unite extrude but i cant find the option where u can unite it like you did in the video - waiting anxiously for reply
welcome. i won't be making any more any time soon, i took the license server off of my laptop because it was eating resources like crazy. but i'll put the license server on my desktop server when i get back to my dorm around january 15. then maybe i'll make another video,
i found the nxtutorials website to have many interesting articles, tutorials, and models. I hope you find it helpful also!

After the Extrude, what function did you use to make the sides join up with the top of the rim?

Time stamp of what you are talking about? I'm a little confused as to what you are talking about.

1 ok i made a cylinder.
2 did a u-grove.
3 i made a hole that was deeper than the wheel was.
4 i made a datum plane in the middle that was elevated.

any more questions?
corair89 4 years ago
oh and then i did a very fanciful rotation to display the wheel.
and yes the whole thing comes out as one body when you are done if you did it the way i did
