there was only ONE elevator that went all the way up and stopped at every floor.

It was reserved for emergencies which makes sense.

They did have elevators going to the top but they had no openings etc on other floors and were express elevators.

The plane fireball couldnt have got into them.

The normal elevators kept changing floors to expressly avoid the fire ball down the shaft scenario. Everyone had to get out and take another elevator.

i wouldnt consider it possible for a fire to have enough oxygen in an elevator shaft to shoot down 80 floors and still pack enough punch to blow marble tiles off the walls in the lobby.

@kingbrenty You wrongly attribute the broken marble slabs to explosive energy rather than structural shift in the building. Eyewitness accounts in the building account for massive structural movement upon impact to a point where the view out their window was completely different than before impact. The structural shift attributed to the marble breaking and for a lot of doorways being jammed shut.

For those who don't know, there are NO elevators that run in a straight line from top to bottom. It is impossible for the impact up top to blow out an elevator in the basement.

That is fine - I am only going on diagrams such as the one here - (google "how stuff works world trade centre elevators") It shows one shaft that does go from basement to top. I accept that this may be wrong but I have seen it on other diagrams too. Do you have a better diagram? I am interested in whether the elevator cars were crushed/pulverised and, if so, what the OCT states destroyed them since it could not have been falling floors - if it mentions them at all of course!!

@ThePeage Correct: There were 8 express elevators from the concourse to the 44th floor and 10 express elevators from the concourse to the 78th floor as well as 24 local elevators per zone, which served groups of floors in those zones. There were seven freight elevators, "only ONE of which served all floors".

Perhaps the "express to top" on the above diagram (shown on Wiki as being much narrower than the other elevators) is not an elevator, but it still appears to be a top to bottom shaft. Of course, pressurised air, even if mixed with jet fuel, EVEN ignited jet fuel (from the plane impacts) from a single shaft does not seem a likely candidate for the destruction of the lobby, but I am more interested in how the central core "crushed itself" as the "piledriver theory" suggests.

@ThePeage The "Pile Driver" theory? That would suggest the core structure is buried in the Earth vertically at GZ. There is an unbelievable amount of mis-information available on this matter. If you consider the structural requirements for elevators you will understand the truth of structural inregrity. The steel beams used in the core structure were massive, over 5" thk in beam, over 50 of them. They were destroyed with possibly Thermite. Their loss makes the speed of drop possible.

I agree. There's no way the core could crush itself. Have you seen this: /watch?v=_UHWfLDg0II ? It helps dash the "Piledriver" (one way crush) idea as it helps people to not be distracted by the falling cloud of debris. The idea that the upper core could completely destroy the lower core - regardless of how the fires may or may not have affected the connections of the floors to the columns - is clearly nonsense. Adding in the observed speed of the drop makes this doubly so.

@LuvaVision The limiting factor in high rise structure was elevator shafts. They had to off set them at given intervals to maintain structural integrity. The fireballs witnessed in the lobby came from below the lobby. There is something missing in all the footage available about ground zero. The core super structure of the buildings. To bring down those buildings at the speed of gravity the core structure had to be destroyed. They are not protruding from the rubble.

@LuvaVision You are incorrect. It is mechanically improbable to build an enclosed shaft elevator that length. There were no "fireballs" travelling down any elevator shafts. The explosion and fire originated in the basement prior to the aircraft strike. Followed by sequential explosions thruout the bldgs. There is no possibility that the twin towers fell in their own footprints at the,or, greater than the speed of gravity without considerable unknown forces.
