@festkjeppen The problem exists and no one is without sin...Blood doping is taking root in Scandinavia: Sweden, Finland and Norway have the first blood transfusion in distance races.
That unforgettable day the Vikings broke their horns, perhaps too much presumption, for there were too sure of winning. They are traditionally the number one, and this enhances the performance of the legendary Italian quartet.
There hasn't been a Winter Olympics like the one served by Lillehammer in 1994 since then. Everything about that arrangement was perfect, so there wasn't anything to do better anyway. I wonder how Northug would do against Dæhlie at his peak, or even Thomas Alsgaard... These three skiers are BEASTS!!!
Guys, this's just sport. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. Norwegian remain the Masters of cross-country but that day Italy were better then them...for one, beautiful, golden day. Peace & respect !
but in case they were true , the same we take no lesson by hypocrit countries whose doping use was massive in 1977-1995 years and who have cheated their olympic medals by doping even horses in Bejing 08 Equestrian show jumping competition !
Be sure that if Italy team was on Epo , Norway team was already on 2nd generation of it !
( which was x Di Centa and Albarello ) , so I could have I spelled such a false & absurd statement ? If you check better my comments, you can see that I denied Epo abuse by those athletes and said that in such a case, other teams more than Italy should have been blamed for doping abuse , in such a case .....
those years and they are among Top 5 strictest & highest of the world nowadays : someone in below comments named skater Koss and his strange haematic values in those years to underline how some countries should stick to their garden and just put on a part their ridiculous 1way selective memories .
Those about Epo use by a few cross country skiers inside Italy's team were nothing ore than rumors,
Italians may celebrate loudly a few victories of theirs but traditionally they keep themselves modest and they don't be cocky when they win and respect the rival , thanks God we are no arrogant & ignorant US cow boys who are confident that their home shit is the best ever no matter what thing they are involved into
( sport or work or whatever ) and most of times they can only cause troubles and make bloody mess !
the one who, years after Lillehammer Olympics , got rumored of Epo use was
Marco Albarello ( just rumored 'cos blood
tests were always negative ), x the others 3 they declared the use of decompression chamber in team's training program, which was allowed and not considered doping .
Italy was simply better than Norway that day just like in 2006 Olympics 4x10 relay and as far as I've been seeing we alwasy respected the norwegian team .
Grandissima gara, la più bella che abbia mai vista! Beautiful race. In order to beat the great norwegian team in Lillehammer you had to be superlative:
Et nasjonalt idrettstraume. Vi skulle funnet opp en tidsmaskin, og enten tatt med Petter Northug i den eller overtalt Inge Bråten til å sette Dæhlie på tredje og Alsgaard på fjerde.
Oj vad väl jag minns den där spurten, vilken skräll av Italien att besegra världens mäktigaste skidnation på deras egna hemmaplan och 90-talets bästa åkare i en spurt.
it's not about countries or civilizaitons or races, its about people. don't conclude that one country is better than any other. i love the norwegians, they are modest wonderful people..cant say that for the italians who tend to be arrogant , but only when they win.
I remember watching this live. They showed on the Today Show. I got up early for school and was lucky enough to catch the last 15 minutes of the race. I wasn't into cross-country skiing at all, but till this day, it remains one of the most exciting things I've ever seen on live television. The crowd was going bonkers during the sprint at the end, and they went dead silent when they found out that they had lost. This video doesn't show the little game Fauner and Daehlie were playing either. Cool.
I don't think Norwegians should be any disappointed, because they almost always win the relays anyway. So it's great to see someone else winning rarely too! And currently it's basically impossible to beat Northug at the finish, so the relays are quite boring.:P
Well, this was a humiliating defeat for Norway. (I'm a norwegian)
Italy was better than Norway this time. If Alsgaard had taken the last step, Norway probably would have had a great chance to win. But hey, that didn't happen.
The whole Italian team was good in OL94. Some people think they used illegal substances. I don't think so, because all of them were doing good races the whole season.
Di Centa on the other hand seems more suspicious.
im italian and ican say that you have reason: alsgaard was faster than fauner probably(see in nagano). On doping problems all that athletes demonstrated good form for many years. About Manuela Di centa im also suspicious because she refused blood test years ago, but she losed from egorova the most dopated athlet of the history
Si mi ricordo anch io... i tabloid Norwegesi scrissero che "siamo stati battuti da la banda dei vecchietti bevitori di vino" (in modo simpatico..).. grande emozione..
Olli89 Italian athletes also were tested by IOC, not only the Norwegian ones, 3 gold medals winner Norway skater Koss comprehensive ......( selective memories ) XD
wow looks like majority of norwegians are still uppset since that day ...... Throughout all his step Dahlie tried to distance Fauner , but he didn't make it.
When he realized he had to sprint, he chose to draft behind Fauner and he got clearly beaten.
Don't talk nonsenses if you can't find better arguments to not accept Italy's victory and don't dream on bizarre fairness.
The Italians overcame by a 30 secs delay
in 3rd step and both Dahlie & Fauner distanced Isometsa and skied to win.
Doping accusations aside, as likely as they are true, this was a great win for the Italians, especially Fauner who had lost so many times to Dahlie in other races.
The Norwegians blew this by first Alsgaard allowing Vanzetta to draft for so long, then Dahlie did the same, allowing Fauner to cruise behind him, then get ahead with less than 1k to go, and then not attempting to pass until it was too late.
If that medal was won by the norwegian, I'm sure that now you weren't there telling us those bullshit about dope!! In sports sometimes you win and sometimes you loose! By the way, if you don't has any evidence about italian dope, don't talk ok??
Olli89 I understand a norwegian hardly accepts his country's ski heroes to be defeated by superior rivals, but blaming someone else by onesensed & dirty charges is not the solution .
If you're looking for dopped cheaters just take a look at Russia,Germany,Austria,USA .
I don't know about Di Centa but Albarello and De Zolt were great champs not 50 but experienced who were competing ag. the norwegian for years and sometimes beating them . The whole Italy's relay appeared out of any dopping use
I remember so well that relay and most of that wonderful olympics : I won't behave your same way and I won't remind you that your mates were beaten by Italian champs even after that year in several competitions and I won't also remind you some much more strange medals catched by dopped cheateras from outer countries .
