  • This is really cool!! :3 i just got corel and i think i've used almost everything out there Photoshop,Sai,My paint :D im not as great as you but hope to learn more from this.

  • I have this love hate relationship with Corel Painter. I bought painter X, found it hogging up the system, went for painter 11 upgrade.

Much better, love the feel, of many of the "brushes" but struggle to put them to effective use.

I find myself going back to photoshop out of comfort.

Would be interested in seeing how you set up your work flow, and what brushes / mediums you use to paint.

  • You are skilled enough... I'm from an art school, and believe me, you do it better than some people who study art (here in my school) I think you have already inspire me and it's 1:27 am. hahahah, I'm still familiarizing with the corel painter tools, but without the expected results. Greetings! ;)

  • fake and gay

  • Love the piece! I'm considering using Corel. Do you still use it yourself? Planning to post anything more recent?

  • @Mercuralis "There's talent and there is skill. Talent is something you're born with, but without training... it's worthless. Skill is what you get by learning. Every piece I do; I learn."

    I like you.

3 months into my 19th year of birth and have never seen words more inspiring. I don't think I could forget these words even if I wanted to. I've thought this of my talent for a long time, but could never put it into words. This'll sound odd, but I'm literally going to hang that quote on my wall:]

  • wow! great work!

  • amazing

  • I really like it,

the artwork is awesome and the colors and shading are amazing.

I think as far as money is concerned,

you should try commission work, especially in the comic industry. =D

    Anyways,

really nice work, and yes i agree that talent without effort and training is nothing. =)

  • I could come up with a bunch of stuck up reasons to put down your art.......but then again I'm a shit artist who can barely put together a decent stick man doodle so I'll just say that this is a great pic you made and much better than the stuff most people can do.

No really thats pretty good what you did there and I can only assume you are even better now than when you did this one.

don't listen to the guys putting you down, they are all just being petty because their jealous of your talent.

  • Beatiful work and music, i love chopin :X

  • good job bro..

  • good job bro..

  • this is beautiful. u did an awesoem job. :)

  • great video, she's pretty and scary at the same time... awesome job

  • @ ehiln88: Hehehe, everything gets better with practice. I used to draw all day, and that's how I got better. I've also learned that skills aren't something to take for granted, because they will go away if they aren't cherished. Mine did. Don't criticize, instead do what you can with what you have.

  • @ehlin88 First: this is an old, flawed painting. It remains here because people liked it.

Second: What money? I'm a self taught, piss-poor artist who learned in her spare time. I don't make money off these vids, and I don't make much off my art.

Third: There's talent and there is skill. Talent is something you're born with, but without training... it's worthless. Skill is what you get by learning. Every piece I do: I learn.

I'd rather try & make mistakes than be a bitter, armchair critic.

  • @Mercuralis its funny but I bet you that ehlin88 has zero artistic ability. good work though

  • @Mercuralis

    Plus, it's not human.

good work mate, wish i had painting skillz/talent.

im only awesome in the web design area..

  • @ehlin88 In soviet russia, everyone thinks they're a critic.

  • @ehlin88 Nobody is born with the knowledge of how to render the human anatomy in art, that is one of the hardest things to do and takes study to get good at, you jackass. If you come back saying that YOU were born with it, you are full. of. crap.

  • @ehlin88 Your comment made me sad, the fact you judge the artist and you don't even know them. Everybody, rich or not, deserve to be praised for the work they do. No amount of money can make you an amazing artist. It's just a matter of patience and very hard work.

  • @ehlin88 If you wish to critique someone, honor them with the ability to type in an acceptable manner at least. After you have accomplished that much, why not help them rather than insult them. It makes me sad that there are people like you in the world who cannot admit that someone did a good job, even though there were a few mistakes. Did you notice Mercuralis' use of atmospheric perspective, or how the slight distortion of proportions makes the character seem more alien? I did.

  • @ehlin88

    Buffoon.

  • @ehlin88 The artist has admitted to the mistakes, but doesn't exactly complain about them. Do not judge unless you can stand up and prove you're worthy of judging. I see no videos in your profile, and yet you judge so willingly? I believe you're the one at fault. Mercuralis is one of my idols, and they have proved to me that even I, who really can't draw well at all, that I can eventually get better. Even the best artists make mistakes sometimes. Prove yourself before you judge, please.

  • @DeltanBubbles The reason why I haven't got any videos is because I'm too lazy. And I have a deaviantartaccount and my own webgallery. Just because I don't upload awesome videos of my art does it mean I don't know shit? Fuck that. I have this account mainly for finding music and gurus. I'm honest and I will tell someone if they suck at what they are doing.

  • @ehlin88 Everyone has their own style. Mine sucks, and I obviously admit it. This is an old piece, yes. Have you seen "Time Lapse: A Sharpened Heart"?! That stuff is amazing! I've tried to draw like this amazing person here, and entirely failed. I may only be sixteen, but I can tell you now. There are few people on this damn site that know shite about drawing true elegance through imagery. This is one of them. Judge on your sites, not on somewhere who no one knows who the FUCK you are. :)

  • @DeltanBubbles I'm not saying this sucks.. I'm saying it's not as wonderful as everyone thinks. Not everyone can learn how to draw. Not everyone can see the flaws. Not everyone can understand it.

And, wtf does it matter if no one knows who I am? Am I not allowed to say what I think if I don't have similar videos to show?

I don't get it.. I don't get why everyone sugarcoats everything.

  • @ehlin88 Probably because people rather look at the beauty instead of the flaws. Some people rather be kind and encourage the artist, not go "Hmph, this is wrong, this is wrong and this is wrong. Oh yes, and this too. You don't know this, you don't know how this works." Armchair critics. Sugarcoating, maybe. The only people who can't learn to draw are the ones who don't have the means, inspiration, and heart to. That's like saying "Not everyone can read". If you gave them the chance to learn....

  • @ehlin88 It's called being polite, love. It's not sugar-coating. When you critic someone, you're supposed to be nice about it because you can offend the artist, who most likely put a lot of work into the piece. Yes, the proportions are off, but that doesn't mean you can be a prick about it.

  • @ehlin88 What makes me sad is people like you who criticize others so harshly but have nothing to show for their supposed Superior artistic abilities and expertise. Next time you criticize someones video like this one, that while i'll admit its not the best, they do have obvious talent, have some proof that you know and can do better, instead of being a jerk give them a helpful tip on how to improve. The money thing? Most artists are PISS POOR and probably either spent a chunk or pirated this.

  • @lonSinceInsane Well, fuck you for not reading in to shit. I have my "art" all over the intrawebs. JUST NOT HERE. Most artists are not piss poor. They're either rich kids who do it because they can afford it, or poor people who has IT but cant show it because they cant work on it because they don't have shit.

Well, whatever. This ass licking stupidness you people, who doesn't know wtf you're talking about, are working makes me sick.

  • @ehlin88 sounds like someone needs anger managment classes eh? If your work is so stinkin amazing then good for you, and the only reason you can't get exposure is because your a jackass.

  • @ehlin88 It saddens me that you are judging another persons creativity. People that are born with the talent should be able to express themselves freely without judgement. Every individual is allowed to have their view on the painting but for you to put down an artist because of your disagreements is incomprehensible. Please, before you stab any other artists in their hearts, develop a sense of understandability and realize the perspective the artist may be trying to portray.

  • Beautiful.

  • Nice work! I also started experimenting with corel painter. I just have a quick question about printing resolution. What resolution works fine to print out your work on a 8 x 11 inch photo paper?

  • This is so beautiful!! I totally wish I understood what brushes you were using, though. O_O I'm at a loss...I have Corel Painter 11. Are you using something similar to a...multiply layer? I get so confused because it seems you can only paint on one layer and make it look good. << I just don't quite get it! Oh well. :3

  • @celestialsunberry it is beautiful just experiment with different brushes~

  • @celestialsunberry you can see they are useing around 7 layers on the bottom right there

  • Beautiful and nice music

  • Beautiful...

    Incredible!

    Amazing!

  • Lovely work!! XD

  • what program do you use to capture the process?

  • mm, very pretty :p

I dunno if you noticed because my friend isn't really a youtuber and she's kind of shy about making new contacts, but your videos inspired her to do a similar one, I think. Her username is onnachance, you might check her out sometime if you like. Okay, gonna watch the rest of your videos now!

  • SHY about making contacts?? Haha. Why. I thought her video was great. Good lookin' character and all

  • I love her hair and the butterfly tattoo on her face! awesome work

  • wher did u learn it did u study this ... it´s greate!!!!

  • ooooo niceee, but why not photoshop? its way better for this sorta stuff i think.. havnt seen hany corel paintings on youtube, but still, goood job man :P 5/5

  • Just because you've not seen them before doesn't mean that Photoshop is a better program. I've used both for digital painting, however I definitely think that Painter is a better program for painting than Photoshop. At least with the way that I work.

  • I just discovered painter x,and for skin and everything its way better than photoshop. The pastel brush is so amazing..

  • @Mercuralis

None of them is better than the other; if you want some realistic reaction of the brush strokes and oil paint in your art, you go for Painter; if you want the clean airbrushed digital style, you go for Photoshop; it's a matter of taste :)

  • Photoshop doesn't simulate brush strokes, therefore i say it is the better digital "painting" program. I like both equally though.

  • I got both photoshop and painter. XD I like both, but the one thing I really hate about photoshop, is that it doesn't have any real blending tools which means people have to blend manually. Which is not good for really big paintings. It makes painting take FOREVER!! :-(

  • @amo1000 dude photoshop is for artist who never learned to use real art materials. Corel is by far the best for art. Corel uses real brush effects they act like the medium would in REAL life. Photoshops method of using different brush opacity with the eraser tool is by far the dumbest method i have seen to date.

  • Great Painting

  • muito bom os seus trabalhos!

  • That would take me a few days and I doubt I would have anything nearly as good as that.

    Great job.

  • Fantastic job!

  • u rock. love chopin too!

  • Very cool.

  • Beautiful.

  • Beautiful portrait. I am shocked that you got this done in 4 hours. I watched your gypsy video and you said that took 6.5 hours. DAMN. You cut 2.5 hours and still made it look better. I should use Painter more often.

  • wow! u're great! it seems harder than draw it in paper

  • wow, it blew me away.

    it made me think :)

  • hey, really enjoyed this piece! if you dont mind, i'd like to give you some critiques (one artist to another). did you use reference for this image? im thinking no? i feel her features - whilst beautifully rendered - are a little misplaced/proportioned. maybe concentrate on the structures beneath each facial feature next time. also, given the night-time theme, i would've liked to have seen her rendered in a cooler light, with blues and greens. if you nail the values, skin can be any colour :)

  • Damn. I forgot paintings can only have one light source. I'm so dumb sometimes--I gave her two to heighten the emphasis on her face. Which, yeah, is somewhat skewed, but hey, one artist to another, what do you do when you don't really notice that till the video is done?

  • oh contrare, a painting can have multiple light sources, but this particular piece was lit a little too warmly given the surroundings. you could have put some saturated cyan rim lighting and made her pop for emphasis, instead of painting her as you would during the day? just a thought. what do you do when you realise the painting is flawed? let it go and start anew ;)

  • While program is used for these painting videos and while resolution has his canvas? please reply me

  • Il software è Corel Painter IX. Il formato della pittura è 2400x3600 pixels e 300 dpi. Grazie.

  • awesome painting here! I love the background.

My only critique is that she is standing in a hole based on the perspective of the background.

  • Or maybe the landscape behind her is higher than the ground she's standing on? A hill or a rise? Or perhaps she's kneeling.

  • Very nice piece, you have some great works under your belt. I've been a pencil artist for a long time and just finally got a drawing tablet. Hopefully I'll be putting out some work of this caliber soon. Keep up the great work.

  • awesome picture but can you tell me what exactly is different from photoshop and corel x painter? i mean which on is best for painting? or is it basicly the same?

  • Beautiful!

  • I'm trying to learn digital painting.. But everytime time I don't know how can you make some beautiful stuff like this!!! How???? maybe you must know every exact shadow of the human beings.. memory.. mh..

  • A lot of art like this is down to observation, and learning what you are looking at, so it's easier to just do. I personally use photos for reference, and other artists work just for inspiration. If you do use other artists work, make sure you aren't copying it. Use it to get the feel for what you are trying to achieve, pictures of spooky forests or whatever, but then use it to learn, and to inspire your imagination, don't use it directly :)

  • Practice. I've been painting faces for a long time, now, and while I still can't get perfectly realistic results without referring to a photo, I can get close enough. This one is done without any reference, and I think it shows. Her nose is a bit too flat, her cheekbones not dimensional enough. The angle of the face is a little distorted. But if you practice, study from life, and you know how to build facial structures, eventually it becomes second hand.

  • Wonderful.

  • i never worked with computer graphic to paint...but after your performance i think i'll try it! beautiful technique

  • How many layers were you working with please? I counted 10 on screen at once, but it seemed like there were others.

  • 10 sounds about right. I can't recall at the moment. I usually have a base canvas layer, two layers for sketch/refined sketch, the background is one, sometimes two layers, an underpainting for her hair and skin tones, and a few layers on top of the sketch layers for the majority of the painting. Her face markings are on their own layer, probably the collar, too.

  • Thankyou. And do you ever find you're stuck for inspiration as to what the final piece should look like after you've already begun.. as in.. when to stop, and what to do if it starts going somewhere you didn't anticipate?

  • hmmm...I tend to find each piece is very different. Sometimes I start off with a specific image in mind, and that's what I end up with when done. More often, however, I find paintings tend to take on a life of their own--and I tend to change my mind A LOT, experimenting with different looks, styles, colors, shapes. I also tend to stop too soon... there's always something that I wish, later, I'd gone back and done. But I usually also know when enough is enough.

  • Thankyou very much for taking the time to reply.

  • Amazing work, I love this video and I often turn to it for inspiration when I'm finding myself frustrated. You make it look so easy. Could you possibly take us through the types of brushes you use, namely for hair and skin?

  • It's beautiful, but she uses a 'tablet' instrument to draw?

  • Yes. I use a Wacom Intuos pen tablet.

  • fabulous!

  • Wow.

  • Wow, thanks for sharing! :D Amazing work!

  • what program dd u used for that? do u have other drawings? i wanna see it, cuz it so fantastic..

  • he used corel painter 9

  • Wow - thats awesome - like all your work!

  • this is really interesting to watch. i love seeing the way other artists work! thanks for sharing.

  • You make it look so easy!

    Looks great!

  • Amazing!

    What u think is better?

    corel painter IX

    or corel paint X?

  • photoshop!
