  • im sorry but as soon as she said "why" at the beginning I asked myself the same question. why am I listening to this crappy cover?

  • My lyrical dance recital is to this song.

  • I love Sarah McLachlan, but I don't think she nailed it on this song. It is very pretty and slow tempoed and meloncholy. But the song is about optimism and should have a bit of wistufllness about iit. People metnion Karen Carpenter's version which is nice because it has a pure innocence to it. Jason Mraz's version is also very heartfelt.

  • I'm so chilled listenin' to this ;D

  • Love

  • I still think Kermit's is best...

  • Does it matter if this is the best rendition or not? All I know, Sarah has done a great job doing this! Does it matter if its better than Kermit the frog?

  • They dislike because they are deaf, and they saw the comment that this song is very good so they hate their ears.

  • kermit makes it better

    Happy Birthday Jim

  • Um.. I love the sound of Sarah, I love the song.. but... this is one she should have left to Kermit.

  • I think the best version is still Kermit the Frogs

  • Certainly not the best version of this I've heard. Sorry :)

  • Just heard this rendition of this song on our local radio station... How lucky to have found it on here. Never heard of Sarah McLachlan before..what a find :)

  • I love this song and I love the memories

  • How can anyone dislike this?

  • I just cried...

  • OK WHO ARE THE 2 COMPLETE EMOTIONLESS DUCHES'S THAT MISSED THE THUMBS UP BUTTON?

  • @wickedchild100 I'm one of those duches. And I'm not an emotionless jerk. Just don't like this version very much - kermit's original version, the carpenters' and also willie nelson's versions are better.

This is just bland kitsch, IMO.

  • Sarah owns a superb voice, and though I make no judgements about other versions, this one makes my favorites list.

  • my father used to sing this song to me when i was a child, When ever i feel scared or alone I sing this song.I had to suffer through hearing many other artist slander the song by adding unnecessary vocal displays , or trying to "put their own spin on it" before i found this. I have to say, kudos Sarah, you did it right tone for tone, note for note, and you sounded graceful and beautiful singing this old and always favorite of mine and many others who secretly sing this song when they're alone.

  • listened to a lot of versions and personally i think kermit's is the most heart-wrenching

  • This takes me back to a small studio apartment in late 1999.. .. some memories are worth holding on to..

  • I love this song but I like it a bit faster than this but still!!!

  • she makes it sound so peacefully like u feel so so safe

  • goose bumps

  • She has a voice of an angel, but I have to agree the first time I heard this song was from the simple voice of Jim Henson singing this makes this song so memorable. I know that in my heart that every singer thereafter pays homage and respect to Mr. Henson. It's beautiful in it's simplicity and pulls at your heart strings.

  • this was my son's lullaby when he was a baby! :)

  • Amazingg(:

  • I really enjoyed this version. Of course I always like the Kermit rendition. Who didn't? I always found Karen Carpenters version to be a little "thin".

  • WOAHHHH DOUBLE RAINBOW!!!!

  • @jordanb7624 "most beautiful thingEVER!"

  • she's so so good c;

  • she has a nice voice but Karen Carpenter had no peer.

  • NOBODY--as good as they are--tops the original, which was Jim Henson as Kermit. Sure, Paul Williams (the composer) did versions, but even he falls to second place to Kermit, because the song was written FOR The Muppets. It became Jim Henson's theme song, since EVERY Muppet special has included it, Jim's funeral OPENED with an instrumental version, and it is to The Muppets (Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Muppet Babies, and Fraggle Rock) what "When You Wish Upon a Star" is to Disney.

  • she sounds horrible paul williams is way better

  • Wow...she's beautiful. Her voice is too...

  • she's an amazing singer no doubt about it

  • umm, I think Sarah's voice blows lil kermit outta the water ;)

  • great song

  • beautiful

  • this version is okay, but the kermit version is so much better, don't you all agree... the Kermit Version was nominated back in the 70's for best song...

  • @MasterLee21 although this is a cover in dedication to that great song :DD

  • so what kind of crack are u smokin?

  • @MasterLee21 it was nominated for the song, not the singing. they're both lovely.

  • I don't get it. This isn't really a sad song so why does it make me cry. Sarah makes me cry too. Her voice is so angelic, but this is a poor arrangement of this number for her voice. It needs more tempo, and just a simple piano or acoustic guitar. This versin sucks, which is a shame because it's a lovely song and an amazing singer. Fail.

  • @Brunogirlfriend: Think of the symbolism. Sad or happy, beautiful songs make people cry, it is as simple as that.

  • @TherealRNO there's always a place for lyrically-driven melodies, eh?

  • @afrisbeetom: Yes. But as was said, all singers--good & bad--that've sung this seem to do so out of respect for P. Williams as composer & to J. Henson as the man whose Muppet world revolved around the core ideas found in the song (hence why it's considered Henson's signature song, just as his froggy alter-ego laments that "It's Not Easy Being Green" or how Disney forever lives the dream through "When You Wish a Upon a Star" whilst Mickey's title hit is "The Mickey Mouse Club March Alma Mater").

  • Have the both of you heard Karen Carpenter's rendition? It just as nice as Sarah's...

  • Yeah, I've heard hers, it's just as lovely.

  • @EarthlyHeavens You guys are nuts. It's all about Kermie. ;)

  • @Lean5316 Karen and Richard Carpenters version far exceeds this or any version including Kermit's.

  • Her rendition's the best so far. i hope Lilith Fair will push through next year.

  • Her version is beautiful, I really hope Lilith Fair comes close to where I live, I would love to go. I was too young the last time.
