When I was younger around Windows 95-98 when I was at school the teacher is asking us to do something in Microsoft word and I don't know anything about it because I dont have a computer, but after a few years I finally have computer and after years of using and different experience using it improves my skills dramatically. Now I reckon I know a lot more stuff about the computer better than most of my classmates at school. I study 2d and 3d animation I am also a self employed technician.
I am 17, and my first experience with computers was when I was 2 my mom was working on the church directory in MS Publisher and hadn't saved the file, and I am told I crawled up to the computer and pressed the power off. srsly. The first one I remember was when I was 4 and my mom let me go to PBS kids. I've been a geek (geeks FTW!) ever since, and I am saving for a MacBook Pro.
I faintly remember when I was around 6. My father got me a computer that ran the Windows 95 OS. I still remember that day when he showed me how to use the mouse. It was in my room with my windows open and the sun was bright. Its so vivid. My father was across the room, and I was jumping around on the bed. It must have been a very cherished moment to me to remember it like that.

I have been exposed to technology since I was a baby. My dad had a camera and a computer that I was very interested in at a young age, and had my first computer at the age of 5.
Man, this guy within this environment, red curtains, red shirt, flames at the TFT, black chair, strongly reminds me "Dracula 2010" :) Anyway, I'm against the use of computers by kids, because maybe they spend many hours while they need other activities for their age, football, soocer, excursions in the nature, fishing with their father, helping their mother to cook a cake, reading. I remember that I enjoyed to catch frogs at the lake and cicadas at the trees, play soocer, play chess, organize
I agree with you on responsibility... Parents and teachers need to give kids the guidence they need to make good decisions online. e.g, my school let us use computers, we had one room full of them, but before we went on them we would be reminded of rules. Also we would be given homework and sometimes there would be a computer option, they made a point of staying away from chat sites and having a parent supervise you at all times
@itsonlydesign I hate all these stupid people in the world that think computers make people dum, i have used a computer since i was 5 and it has made my life. I am only 18 and run a successful radio site. While most of my friends are regretting taking a PE gcse, and are working in Mcdonalds.
@YayJoshDavis yeah, i just got my first computer when i was 10, btw, im 14, and i know som much about them now, my dream career, is something that involves computers, which pretty much narrows it down to everything, but im learning so much about them. i made a computer for the first time last month, and my dad was so impressed, he bought me an X-box 360, which i asked him for.. lol.
@wilkes85 Computers are for everyone as long as you teach your kids how to use them right and not get into trouble, I'm 14, and I have access to the internet, and no parental controls, no monitoring, I believe if you teach your kids what is right from wrong, they can go on the internet just fine, and some kids have to learn the hard way, most people have to learn for them selves, not from parental controls, or just putting a leash on your child.

I bought it, payed for it, only one that lives at my place that knows anything about it (im 13 and both of my brothers are now moved out so it;s just me and mum.. technology impared) and I must say that ever since I was tiny I was allowed to do whatever the hell I wanted on a computer. I recon ive learnt more about life and usefull skills off computers and TV's then I have even in schools.
@NeilJillett1996 me too. i learn much more at home than in school on cs. thats cos most kids are computer geniusses nowadays like me and are clever than a teacher at computers
i had my pc when i was like 3 and it was like a windows 2000. now its like for teens. cause now these days kids watch too many reality shows like icarly where there always bedazzling there laptops and kids in there minds are thinking i gotta go get one. with all this myspace aim and stuff kids just wanna get a laptop just so so they can do it on the go. i mean my school has gear up a edcuation institute, none of them where interesting until they heard they give free laptop they went all over it.
I remember using RISCOS on the ARM2 and 3s...also remember barCP/M ...way ahead DOS or Windows at the time.
My first computer came in a 'pack' and with a screwdriver and some other tools. You had to 'make it yourself'. Plugged straight into the TV and had 1kb of RAM!
I'm a teenager. Basically, I may get a laptop soon, but we have one computer at my house. Its the second computer my parents ever owned and the best computer by leaps and bounds that they owned. I have full administrator rights to the computer and its basically mine because I use it alot more then my parents. I first used a computer (windows 95) when I was 5 and my dad was yelling at my mom and grandma for letting me on. That computer is about 2 years younger then me and it sucked.
mine was a windows 98 dynamic computer at 9 years old but I took it apart and the monitor just stopped working along with some fried parts because I did not know about static protection=(
I got my first own laptop when I was 11. It was a compaq running windows ME. It was cool for a while, but then it kicked the bucket. Now I built my own computer, and I love its performance now.
ive been on a comp since i was about 3. When i was 3 i was playing Arthur and a math game for pre-pre-schoolers. It was on an old floppy from an old 90s computer.i dont remember anything though. It was Compaq i think
I've lived with computers and the internet all my life. My first was windows 95 with aol in 1994. Then a Windows 98 then xp and now the best thing of all, iMac.
I was 2 years old, so I don't remember what computer I first had, but it was some Apple computer. Then when I was 4, I got a Bondi Blue iMac which was beautiful, then when I was 10 or 11, I got a dell dimension E310.
i´m 14. Now I´m lerning C. And i have a commodore 64. My first computer was a chilly green with an AMD Athlon 1,91 GHZ 32 Bit and Windows 98 and only 256 of Ram.
A computer only for Browsing it is.... I ruined that computer and I learned what a computer contains.
Do not ruin your computer. It gets too expensive. gg
i got my first computer when i was 14, 500 gig hd, 2 gig ddr2 667mhz of ram, 512 meg geforce 7600 gt gfx card, witha pentium d 3.0 duo core processor. i build my first computer at the age of 9, and have been into them evevr since, betwen the age of 9 and 14, i was using the familys pc , ubilt my myself, i think computers are for anyone wh wants to use them. aslong as they stay away form the darker side, which is always fun :P.
i didnt get really into computers/video games uintil about 2 years ago and im 13. I had been exposed to technology when i was younger but not enough to really say that i knew anything about a computer. Right now i try and explore the capabilities of what a computer can do, but my exploration is at a limit due to my extremely bad computer.
I think this is cool im 10 going on 11 and i have my own computer its a Amd athlon Dual core processor 2 gigs of ram and i started learning about them about 5 years ago now i almost know how to build one and on top of that im learning about each device and what that device or mechanism does. In my personal opinion i think it doesn't matter when the kid starts learning.
I got MY first computer when i was around 5. It ran windows 95 I belivev. I reccomend getting a colorful keyboard with easy to understand symbols on the keys if it is for a young kid. Also, get a rubbermaid computer desk, (like the kind that looks like hollow plasic like little tikes playthings.)
I was 9 when my father bought me and my sis a atari 2600 in '80. Later in '84 my parents bought me coleco vision but it the following year that I got a commodore vic20 and saw useless code on a B/W tv but played zasson and donkey kong.
I've been using computers since I was about...2-3. My Dad would always throw me on that thing..lol Now I'm 14 and I build my own PC's..Q6600 Quad's FTW! (or Q9450..since there coming out soon..45nm FTW!)
i got a computer a like 5 or 6 or 7 or something like that and i used it for games no internet by 8 i started getting on my bros computer and demanded one of my own ps my bro needed my screen for my game computer so i never used it again
I think that kids should get a laptop at a responsible age. If you got a laptop for your child and he\she is under the age of eight, I hope you got the waranty! You can buy your child a laptop at the age under eight, but i think just let them have acess to a computer, not have one.
I got my own computer at the age of 2. Dad built me one when I was about 7 or 8. Got a mac at 13, and its been good ever since then. Started programming back at 10.
i was introduced to computer when i was about 10/11/12. I am now 14, and about 8 months ago is when i really understood computers, and knew what they were for (other than chatting, or emailing). i also understood how they worked a while ago...
I think kids should start around 12 w/ parental guidence (because of spyware that they don't know about).
i got my first own computer(laptop) when i was 11,today im 12, and im still playing, wc3 supcom, diablo, Medival 2, rome totalwar,Dawnofwar, 2moons, turfbattles, ect ect, hehehehe
i was exposed to computers at the first years of school, and ever since then I've been always fascinated by technology. my first computer at home was a second hand Amiga 500 (commodore) that did lots of games...and the first PC i had was a win 98...
I first was exposed to computers in my grandmothers house and I was about 6 or 7. From then I begged my parents to get me a computer. Every time I went to my grandmas house I explored on her Win98 emachine. My first computer was a used apple with os9 and this was the summer before fifthgrade within 2 days in 2 days i broke it by "overexploring my HD so my parents bought me a new compaq and i am now quite good at computers always fixing otherpeoples computers and am only 13
First real computer use I can remember was when I was in 1st grade and we had this computer class where we learned about data and typing and computer programs and math. It was hella fun.
i had my first computer at 14 then i became a hacker and now i have a nice new laptop to support my hacking skills because it helps me learn about every single part of a computer
ur such a bad gimp ooooo am hacker yeh i gotta pc n then i became a hacker i bet u cant even hack at all if you can i wud like to know of some of the jobs uve pulled and what trojans uve made
Why would i do something stupid like make a virus when i can spend my time making my computer better and my other devices better what is the point of going to jail for a gay ass trojan you just dont get the point, i dont expect you to because you are a real retard.
If you are a responsible parent and guide your child on the computer they can be as young as 1 and as they get older make computer time something that your child and the parents both enjoy. When they are teens place the PC in a central location in the house.
A computer doesn't relieve you of your parenting responsibilities.
I got my first computer about 2 monthes ago and im 14 so really I only use it for school and learning but sometime I go to like say you tube and watch lockergnomes videos.
i was first exposed to computers when i was about 7 or 8, my uncle lived in my house and he was going to college at the time to be a computer engineer...later when i was about 10 yrs old my parent sent me to a computing class for a whole summer, they taught me pretty basic stuff about windows and thats it... then my dad bought me an old compaq presario, with windows 98, i learned a lot there also by myself...and now I'm 21 yrs old and I have a desktop (that I built myself) and 2 laptops... =D
i got one when i was about 9 it was a windows for work groups it ws (not the best)but i loved it then i got a win98 within 5mins i broke it then it got upgraded to xp then i was a wiz kid on pcs then i got a brand new pc win xp its brill im on it now then about 3months ago i got a laptop yey xp not vista

It gets too expensive. gg

i didnt get really into computers/video games uintil about 2 years ago and im 13.

Also, get a rubbermaid computer desk, (like the kind that looks like hollow plasic like little tikes playthings.)

i've been using computers since age 5 and got one at age 8 but the reason i got it so young was becuase i was like on my dad's computer all the time!
JackSmithProductions 3 years ago
I think that kids should get a laptop at a responsible age. If you got a laptop for your child and he\she is under the age of eight, I hope you got the waranty! You can buy your child a laptop at the age under eight, but i think just let them have acess to a computer, not have one.

i was introduced to computer when i was about 10/11/12. I am now 14, and about 8 months ago is when i really understood computers, and knew what they were for (other than chatting, or emailing). i also understood how they worked a while ago...
I think kids should start around 12 w/ parental guidence (because of spyware that they don't know about).
tuffenuff1212 4 years ago
ANSWER: It depends on how much they know & how much of it their parents/guardians can control.

Computers are not baby-sitting tools.
If you are a responsible parent and guide your child on the computer they can be as young as 1 and as they get older make computer time something that your child and the parents both enjoy. When they are teens place the PC in a central location in the house.
A computer doesn't relieve you of your parenting responsibilities.
