Obama Recording Uncovered! - "The Redistribution of Wealth"

Obama was saying that when African-Americans insisted on their U.S. constitutional rights, and the courts said that they did in fact have a right to those rights -- there were no rules, no guidelines on what the government had to do. There were rules/guidelines on what the government must/could not do. Nothing said the government had to provide transportation for African-Americans to those European-American schools or move those European-American schools to where African-Americans lived, etc.

Obama was talking about when African-Americans insisted that they had a right to vote, a right to be treated by the government the same as European-Americans, right to a fair trial, right to own & sell property, right to not be arbitrarily arrested, right to assembly, right to petition, right to criticize the government, right to defend themselves, right to the same government services that were being provided to/for European-Americans (education being an important example).

Obama was not talking about the government taking money or property from Oprah Winfrey or Michael Jackson or some African-American football/basketball/baseball player and giving it to some European-American living in a shack or mobile home or their car in Appalachia or Georgia or Kansas or Montana.

Whoever wrote the comments and opinions, and edited this radio interview, did not understand and/or did not listen to what Obama was talking about. Obama was not talking about redistribution of wealth. Obama was not talking about taking money or property from European-Americans and giving it to African-Americans.

I think this interview was a lot less extreme than it was made out to be. This is pretty mild as far as "this is who you really voted for." Barack Obama has proven to be a pretty centrist president, regardless of his personal opinions, which lean left. Poverty is a problem society should deal with. I don't know how. Who does? If redistribution of wealth were to happen (which it won't), it probably would be in the form of a congressional act of some kind.

The fact of the matter is the job market is fucked up right now to the point where people have to take waitressing jobs to either pay bills or because people with phds are going for their jobs and the wealth is being disproportionately given to the extremely rich of this country. The next time you go to dinner, try to find out if your waiter/waitress is a McCain or Obama supporter. If they are an Obama supporter, instead of a tip -- leave a note that reads:

"Because you believe in the distribution of income, surely you won't mind that I am taking the liberty to give your tip to the homeless man down the street. Thank you for your patriotism."

Oops! Forgot to mention. I come from a multi-cultural background. I married a latino. I have tons of friends from all cultures/color skins. This isn't a "race issue" but rather a "cultural issue." Republicans have no one to blame but themselves. Without the war in Iraq and the consequent economic collapse Obama would have no chance. McCain is on record saying he disagrees with the majority about the war. Fine; that's why we have elections. You are misinterpreting. The context of this radio interview is the issue of reparations for blacks today because of slavery. Obama is stating a conservative view, not a radical one. He is saying that it is futile to pursue reparations through the courts. That won't happen. It's not a legal issue, it's a legislative issue.
