"always at every moment be aware of what you're doing"....I am sitting on the toilet. Now I am taking a shit (plop). Yes Alan, I will do what you say and always be aware of what I am doing
Anyone out there know of anyone who's writings are similar to Alan Watts'(same philosophy different way of putting it)...I love reading Alan's books but have read everything he has ever done including listening to all his lectures. I've already read all of J. Krishnamurti and Ram Dass who are similar also. I'd appreciate it.
The meditation technique called Vipassana (insight) that was introduced by the Buddha about twenty-five centuries ago is a set of mental activities specifically aimed at experiencing a state of uninterrupted Mindfulness.
Almost all really creative/artistic/visionary people have at some point had to struggle with substance abuse. (From Johnny Cash to almost all decent Hollywood actors to guys like McKenna and Watts)
It comes naturally once you realize that all the Anne Smiths and John Does are living the life of laboraty rats and that 95% of the people around you are Gestapo-like moronic assholes
Well He is the first to spring to mind isnt he but he had it under control IMO. He was a true seeker until his end and not tired of life at all like so many self-destroying celebrities seem to be.
He wanted to see what happens in Dec 2012 when his timewave zero goes off thechart and so do I!
@tyronejonez01 That doesn't make sense! Who are you? What is a man? What is freedom? Simply saying you are something doesn't mean anything if you don't know what it is that you're saying you are.
@CptKrnch Hi, you have asked 3 questions.Answer no.1, I am a free man, I pray to no one or no thing, I owe nothing to anyone, nobody owes me anything. I know 99% of the other life forms have and will continue to try and and take my life. Answer no 2. A life form. Answer no. 3.The word "freedom" in this context is species specific. All life must kill in order to procreate. We make up words so we can get someone else to risk their life so we can procreate. Only the fit survive. may it be
@tyronejonez01 I'd say that's pretty close, but there is always a deeper answer as well. "You" or "I" is a collection experiences held within the mind, data collected from senses and thus processed into memory, but this includes everything that we know, it is all simply a state of the synapses (Alan Watts also goes into this.) "Man" like any lifeform is simply a machine, a sophisticated one at that, that has evolved from the interaction of particles...
@CptKrnch that interact with each other. The origin of those particles, since matter cannot be created, can be traced to the origin of the universe itself. Essentially, "Man" is just a clump of star-dust. And "Freedom" is as you insinuated, subjective, it is an emotion. A Man in prison can (and often does) feel more free in a cell than in the outside world where he was from. Where ever you feel free, you are free. At least, that's how I see it :D I'm sure there's ways to go deeper.
@billyboy2674 - exactly. The best thing is to sit with a Krishnamurti and become the book and read a little day by day and suddenly, you notice that something changed. Yes, we have to distinguish between the halleluja stuff and the real - most are in the intellect. It's a mental game. There is a huge difference between FEELING THE THOUGHT and thinking thoughts. Stay tuned and enjoy.
@billyboy2674 - maybe or maybe not. Death is only scary when believed there is a death - just another transition. Study Krishnamurti and see what happens and you will know from within - truth can be explained outwardly - it IS.
All people with intelligence and discipline (means to learn) should study Krishnamurti, since if you do with attention and awareness and keep going, suddenly the doors might fly open and new fresh wind flow in - you cannot force it, as dear Alan Watt says, but you can surrender yourself and be present in all you do. One day the noise-machine of the mind stops and you feel completely new and in a kind of other dimension - you are no longer a slave of your thoughts. Thank you for sharing.
@fntime - learn to deswitch and do it at least 5 times per day - see Deswitch com - do the inner work in stillness and unplug the "Internet Matrix" and entertainment - be careful what you put your eyes and ears on, since it programmes you. I don't use a mobile phone or wirless Internet which are the main weapons to disconnect people from the Connexion to Spirit, and the true stillness and peace comes from Spirit. You can have constant peace at mind even when you are working. Attention.
Watt is mind? it doesn't matter. Watt is matter? never mind.

Your should not use your name, but Khrisnamurti's only. Your are describing his teachings in detail and JK should get full credit for that.

So YouTubers don't get confused.
