@chad889 I'm 16 and my crew is also 16, we're both RYA dinghy instructors, and very competent in Non-skiffs. We haven't sailed skiffs yet. I think we'd like to eventually get competent in a 49er to race it in nationals etc.
@Chrisgamee If your in the correct weight range for the 49er, then id go for it. If your not big enough for the 49er and it doesnt seem like you will be for a bunch of years get the 29er. Generally speaking the 29er is alot more user friendly and easier to learn on, but if your any good at sailing you should figure a 49er out pretty quickly. There are alot of 2nd hand new style rigs coming on the market around now, if you get a 49er its a MUST to get the new style rig.
hi guys, im a laser radial sailor, 13 years old, 52 kg, 5 foot 3 ins, if i were a helm and my crew was 16 years old, 65 kg, 5 foot 8 ins, how does that compare to others? sorry its a bit confusing, thinking of getting one of these beasts :D
@XxTutorialMonsterxX if your crew is 16 years and you are starting the 29er now, i've rather started 49er. your crew maybe 17,5 years when you're starting to get good, and then both of you maybe weight 70kg, atleast your crew, or maybe he would me more.. so it is better to start 49er :D
but there are people who are sailing whit their father, so i think that is worse then your crew at 16 ^^
im 13 and just started racing a 29er a year ago (i helm) and my boat keeps gaining large amounts of water each time i dump but i dont know where the wholes are :S anyone know where they usually are?
@HenryBadenhorstJuer Uhmm fevas are boring as shit and i weigh 130 and my crew weighs 150 so together were at the light end but we can still do whatever the fuck we want so gtfo
And yeah feva's are boring, but sat 13 you can't race a 9er, You won't get any squad shit for like 2 years, no one will sponsor you untill you become good, and at 13 you can't get good because of your weight.
why did you have to keep cutting footage every 2 seconds? totally ruined some great sailing action.

is it worth starting in a 29er to get used to a skiff, or going straight into the 49er?
Chrisgamee 6 months ago
@Chrisgamee i'd say starting in 29er. ask yourself: what's your age? what's your crew level at? and what are you aiming for?

You shouldn't be in a 9er at 13. You need to 180kg between you and your crew. Get a feva. Now.
