Wow, when I was little I simply adored Dudley Do-Right but I never once thought about what the Canadians thought about it, I had no idea it was banned! :O The more you know...
I must have only seen this cartoon once before-because it was only aired once. They objected to this parody of Smokey and thus this cartoon was banned.
But in Canada, all the Dudley Do-Right cartoons were banned. The Canadian Mounties objected to Dudley as a whole, although it was more a spoof of old-time melodrama than a ridicule of the Royal Canadian Mounties.(A man I met at a comic book convention who was from Canada told me this.)
"This man didn't shave this morning". LOL. I love the look on the mesmerized bear at 1:22. The 3 greatest Canadians of all time: Don Cherry, Snidely Whiplash & Dudley Doo-Right.
No one would be beleive how savagely satirical this was for its day. I mean people point to The Simpsons and Family guy as proof of a an american sense of humour but this was wayyyyy funnier without being smutty
That was pretty rockin. I especially liked how the narrator said "roof" and "Quebec." They're definitely not Canadian. Great episode, was it really banned?
@canadarox14 it was banned cause the forrest department didnt want a bear who lights stuff on fire because it contradicts all that they tried to acopmplish with the smokey the bear campaighn
The U.S. Forest Service sternly objected to "Stokey" after it originally aired on "THE BULLWINKLE SHOW" in October 1961, and was never shown on broadcast TV again. Original sources claimed all prints of the episode were destroyed, but it wasn't true. Portions of it WERE used in transitions for "THE DUDLEY DO-RIGHT SHOW" (1969-'70) {i.e. 1:37-1:42- "But wait! Coming over the hill is one of Dudley's friends..."} and the opening title for the syndicated "DUDLEY DO-RIGHT AND FRIENDS" in the '70s.
i do hope that Stokey didnt set fire to Ripsaw Falls.

This is fantastic. Every line is a one-liner. Smokey the arsonist starting the Chicago fire alone was enough to justify this episode.

Johnffrey87 2 years ago
How? That's stupid! Isn't It?
ClawMachine44 2 years ago
Yeah apparently because it was a parody of Smokey the bear as an arsonist.
Johnffrey87 2 years ago 5
Played by Abraham Wilkes Booth. That is both wonderful and horrendous.
