@tiffanywelling I am glad i can help. I have another video that may help even more. It is just an explanation of the different cases and their articles (it is a longer video, but explains a lot) its filmed in Bamberg. I hope you will be able to find it on my site. and thank you so much for watching and commenting and i am very glad i could help. mark
well if it is to (nach) as in I am going to Berlin it is dative... Ich fahre nach Berlin.
if it is fuer (for) it is always accusative. (remember durch fuer gegen ohne um are all accusative all the time) It is for my friend. Es ist fuer meinen freund.
if it is to someone then it can be just an indirect object in the dative. I give you my beer. Ich gebe DIR mein Bier. (the dir means to you).
or you can use "zu" and that will be dative as well.
OH goodness this is such a perfect explanation! Just what I needed. First thing that doesn't put things in terms that only a grammar scientist would only understand. =D Great job!
Thank you so much. I have been working with Rosetta Stone & as good as it is, it does not explain the cases well. I bought a ton of books & used the internet to study, but I was still lost. I watched your 7 minute video & I finally understand what is going on!!!!
@depeche609 i have another video on the german cases on here as well that also has genetiv on it as well. i am glad this video helped! good luck with german!
Yes, I gave that one a watch as well. I was more having trouble differentiating between the cases -- I just needed a slightly slower explanation than the one my professor had provided. I certainly understand it now and am surprised it gave me as much trouble as it did, but thank you once again for putting this up.
@OriginalName90 you are very welcome. I am glad i can help, there is another video for just looking at the different cases that is a bit more in depth. it is in bamberg. just check out in my videos and you should find it.
this is so confusing! but i understand it better now :) danke!
