  • not good principles all the body weight going forward leaves you vunerable

  • Yeah, my teacher looks really vulnerable to me in the video.

  • veery good

  • 5 *****

  • Nice.

  • Tiger claw is a good defense against grappling. A guy I studied under use to rip bark off of trees for hours at a time and practiced iron palm with stones. This is not the guy you want to grab onto.

  • Great video Tiger claw is awesome if u have good lower arm strength ^^

  • The crushing power of the claw as well as the cutting ability of the fingers are the parts of nearly all animal styles today that is almost totally devoid from the arts.

Even IF you have the right moves and are excellent with them in a real fight, if your unable to crush or cut with the fingers then it's far harder to win the fight as your grabs and cuts will not do much or any damage at all.

    Good demo.

  • My favorite techniques!!! Black Tiger claws, Tiger catches the lamb, I believe I saw descending the mountain. Shaolin Tiger is devestating especially after the strike, the pressing and grabbing action tears flesh!

  • thats cool its just like a tiger pressing down on its prey

  • hahah that's rape!!!

This master is good. What I love about shaolin is that it's not only a peaceful martial art that at the same time gives you peace but it's soo graceful I mean I do taekwondo but I would love to do this martial art. I don't know how to explain it it's so GRACEFUL! haha that's all I can say.

  • trying to learn fu hok..

    and all the tiger claw

    jeez

i dont know how it gets so strong

it was recorded that one of the 10 tigers of canton fought someone in a lei tai how cheated and wore some armor to cover his chest

but he just ripped the guy's intestines out of his stomach... ouch

  • i know if that was a real figth the old man wins, he is fast with that claw jajajaj lol.. no really i mean it ^^

  • fujao is my favorite XD

  • just reading some of the comments, why is so difficult for MMA fighters and kick boxers to except that traditional kung fu(not modern wushu) was created with war in mind? i mean do they think wars were won with techniques thar had credit? come on now. As for Muay Thai being better its the person not the art,However in Muay Thai you get better quickly but in kung fu it takes time to build your base but once its built trust me you CAN rely on it soley.

  • Gotta say... Sifu has the best taste in clothing ^_^.

  • here we keep the traditional fighting style.. difficult to learn

  • im going to start shaolin kung fu soon and im excited and im going to work realy hard =]

  • This stuff is so beautiful to watch if only it retained it's form on the streets. Under pressure none of them work, that is way there are so many realty based arts.

  • Works fine under pressure for those who know how to train it. Sadly, most don't.

  • Well Flowingzen in the 1970's a kung fu team went up against Thai boxers, the result the kung fu guys we're taken apart. Then they said it was the gloves that were restricting them. So they let them take them off. So round two then, what happens they get a sound beating again. End result "Sanshou" in order to defeat them they ended up resembling them. Which is why there is reality based martial arts.

  • Like I said looks beautiful but when it comes down to it street encounters require arts like krav .

  • There's no doubt that most kung fu practitioners, whether we're talking about the 1970s or 2000s, would lose to a Thai Boxer -- with our without gloves. But most is not all. There are practitioners who still maintain the essence of these arts. These practitioners are rare, and difficult to find.

  • Flowingzen I see you've not only been editing my comments, you've also stopped me posting on your pg under Drzacksmith. I know it's your pg mate, but if you TMA guys can't support your claims with empirical evidence, then banning doesn't exactly give much credibility to your claims. NOW DOES IT!

  • It's not possible to edit your comments on YouTube. I do sometimes remove posts if I feel like it will be a waste of my time arguing with the poster. And for the record, I'm not at all concerned whether or not I am credible in your eyes. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, or sell you anything. I'm just sharing my art with those who are interested. You're obviously not. So goodbye.

  • I practice the tiger form and belive me if you practice for long times you will be able to use it on the streets take my word for it i used them on the street before.and if you want to talk about it am not going any were.

  • Well I tell you what ghost3366777 this ones easily settled mate. Got a camera film your self in an ardent sparring session ( kick boxer ) would be a good one to go up against. No prearranged set movements & will see if you fight just the way you train.

  • I've sparred with plenty of Kick Boxers. Nothing prearranged, just friendly sparring.

  • No.we russians in america beat up everybody who messes with us because we naturaly have fighting skills and instincts.so punching someone wins the fight much faster than kicking him.

  • watch rocky

  • you watch to much t.v

  • he has a lowered center of gravity and his skeletal structure is aligned for optimal strength. also if u pay attention to every place he grabs ull see how if applied in a real life situation it would retrain the opponent painfully before the finally tiger claw to their face. tigers only come down from the mountians when they r hungery.

  • true but kicks are easy to dodge XD. most people who don't practice or train their kicks take 2 or even 3 secounds to complete a kick. I seen many people who cant even kick my stomach. And when they attempt to do so it takes 4 or even 5 secounds. if your in a beginner fight where both of you know no martial arts its better to hit his face quickly then land a heavy blow. And if that fails an endless 1 2 combo. Of course that wouldnt work on martial artists.

  • I agree that many "masters" wouldnt stand a chance in a real fight since they have been spamming too much applications and lack the 'real thing'. However, thats the good thing about kung fu & co, you dont really have to rely entierly on a technique in a real fight. Applications are just to give you a sense of reaction (for example, a guy who doesnt fight would cover against a punch while a fighter would react to block the punch) so the technique of a skilled martial artist will come by itself.

  • This looks very useful!

  • trust me its not. Rule of thumb for most martial arts it its elaborate and fancy it isnt applicable. it would take years for you to be able to react in that way and decades for you to find a situation where you can use it too its full potential. I bet if you put this guy up to a cocky street fighter the master would get his ass kicked. If it was a true master he would tell his pupil to come at him with everything he has and he will counter and then teach you the counter. Most are shames

  • It takes years to find a situation where you need a defense against punches, kicks, and grabs? I see a lot of punches, kicks, and grabs being countered with variations of the same technique. Seems pretty useful to me!

  • Mint video my friend. I do tiger form aswell as snake. I love 'em.

    : )

  • i agree with you

it may be useful but it would require years of training thats many of us may not have time for

i train in shaolin kung fu, jkd, and muay thai

shaolin brought up my speed and flexibility but not much for actually fighting techniques. though im only a beginner in shaolin

  • Very interesting...

  • this monk stuff takes an untraditional fighting style to beat...

  • interessante, molte tecniche sono simili a quelle che facevo in palestra, anche se con qualche piccola variazione

  • interesting, it looks like the style my grand dad used to train when he was a young man. He manage to handle about 20 men on one to one combat or one on 3 combat... I think in the last half he was tired so he used a chair to helo him. It was impressive, since his stance are solid, and used to horse stance 3 hours none stop. I haven't heard people talking much about this style at all... interesting.

  • the strenth and precision of tiger claw

    with the quickness of mantis

that would be an awesome kung fu form

lol i like ur the master move in

    1:35 thourgh the other seconds

  • i think that a good monkey style practitioner is the antidote to good tiger claw practitioner... but mantis... that shit is absolutely amazing! im a seven star practitioner myself

  • Just takes practice and training.

  • What's the diference bettwen the shaolin and the wushu kung fu?????

  • Intention.

  • shaolin is actual kung fu while wushu is more like a demonstration, with exhaggerated movements that would not be practical in an actual fight

  • Really?, well I practise wushu, and well, I think my teacher tolf me how to defend to me and others, I thing is told me how to fight very well...

  • well not all styles are purely one thing. My old southern style had tai chi and practicum, while my new northern style has wushu and practicum. So each style is unique in their teaching and execution, as well as their taught content ^^

  • has he? and how many fights have you been in? all the wushu i have seen is about as realistic as WWE

  • i hear that shaolin monks do more wushu than traditional forms now too. technically speaking wushu or chuan fa/quan fa are the correct terms. kung fu means skill earned over time and with great effort. kung fu could be anything, not necessarily martial arts.

  • That's only contemporary wushu, traditional wushu is very effective in a fight and adds a lot of speed to the user's movements.

  • true mastery of gong fu, vis. perfect harmony of internal and external power, comes by in so many words.... by not giving a fuck about shit like proving whether gong fu is better than MMA. when was the last time you saw a shaolin monk on UFC? it will never happen because they dont care about impressing ignorant martial arts fans by beating the crap out of eachother. MMA vs. dim mak/ yang jia taiji bare hands =roflwtfpwnt. oh and btw, Kringhis go hug a puppy and calm the fuck down

  • there is a massive argument here about MMA beating kung fu traditional styles but who cares maybe a MMA person would but it also depends on the person

also traditional kung fu is proven to be the only martial art in the world where u get fitter the longer u do it as u get older even when your like 70. u wont be as strong cos muscle detiriourates but u will be fitter i.e healthier heart. stronger inner force. agree with me martial artists lol

  • fatslug: It is clear that you don't know what you are talking about. I always hear that MMA champions would have beaten the shit out of Bruce Lee and shaolin masters. And how do you know that MMA is so much better than any of the Kung Fu styles?

  • dude bruce lee would beat the shit out ALL them MMA fighters

  • mixed martial arts dominates all single forms. thats a given.. no fancy bull shiet needed

  • wow that is marvelous. i lke how ur master can apply it so smooth and harmonious. that is real wushu. i have always considered wong fei hun to my my idol but ur shifu is very very ......authentic ( hope that was the word im lookin for) to what my texts claim kung fu to be =]

  • "Physical strength and internal strength is a two diffrent aspect and also the training method is different..."

  • haha, my master also has a very strong grip and he does the exact same grab to the love handle that your master does, haha. boy that is a painful experience. raises you right onto your tippy toes.

  • when tradition becomes more important than what really works in a fight AS IT REALLY IS,than it becomes dangerous to the survival of the practitioner and should be discontinued-the practitioners survival is more important than any established, art, style or system ESPECIALLY WHEN there are parts of it that are obsolete in regards to fighting as it really is

  • Okay,I have blocked you. Once you settle down, you can send me an email, and we can discuss the matter calmly. Right now, you are not even listening, and there is no discussion.

  • If you don't think what I do is effective, fine. But you obviously have no experience of it, as evidenced by your comments. The sad fact is that 90% of kung fu practitioners today, including those in China, cannot use traditional kung fu patterns in combat. They use kickboxing instead. But some people can, and still do, use traditional patterns effectively in sparring and combat.

  • Do you think this was created overnight?? It has been around for a VERY long time. Thousands of years...if it wasn't effective it would simply not exist. Masters who used it would not survive when they needed it... DUH!

  • shaolin kungfu is said to be the source of all martial arts. all these wushu forms were effectively used for combat in the past. that being said, the point of forms is so that you your body learns the movements while your mind understands the point of the technique so that it can be applied. i agree with you flowing zen. in an actual fight i rely on my muaythai over my kungfu

  • That fact that Shaolin Kung Fu is the source of all martial arts is untrue. Martial Arts are broken into regions, Europe had it's own, Africa/Egypt, Greece/Rome, Asia. Asia's martial arts started with India's Kali forms. They are effective it just takes a deeper understanding of the form and it's applications. Repitition is the key to training.

  • i think they ment organized martial arts where the started putting the techniques together n preserving it thru lineage

  • Than an organized system thru lineage is a bit specific. A lineage is just a key map for following the main leaders of a particular style. It has been recorded in other styles its just that the Chinese are most famous for it.

  • they mite of ment martial art as in having philsophy and ways of thinking harmonizing it with the physical aspect without teh mental part it wouldnt be called martial arts it would just be a fight system

  • If it's going to be just a fighting system is it Martial Combat and it lacks what it needs to survive and even it's defense aspect. There are certain qualities of Martial Arts that you come to realize over the years. Whether you take it seriously and have fun but, have respect for it...it is all up to the practioneer. That is really what separates the man from the beasts! ;)

  • why didnt the shaolin top students, students who practice like you show above, why didnt they fight like how they train instead they fought like kickboxers ? ! because they train differently than they fight and that training if it did work in the ring as in fight quest they wouldve used it but they didnt-no one even people trained and living in shoalin dont fight like that-they do it for historical purposes-thats all

  • They do not practice like I show above. They practice kung fu forms only. Once they start sparring or fighting, they discard the forms. I train differently. Please look at my website for a detailed description of my training methodology. Go to "Free Info", then "Articles", then look for the article about our sparring methodology.

  • read my comment below regarding the show fight quest where the two americans went to china, trained with the shaolin then sparred and had a contest with them flowing zen,

  • I have read your comments, and I have seen Fight Quest. Don't believe everything you see on TV. What they showed was not genuine traditional Shaolin Kung Fu. The fact that they used kickboxing in sparring is evidence of this fact. Genuine Shaolin Kung Fu is even rarer in China. This is largely because of the Cultural Revolution, when masters who didn't flee were persecuted or killed.

  • this is why bruce lee-who was a realist was against tradition where they train using out of date methods then when they fight in a contest they dont even move like they train ! train like you fight -fight like you train ! thats realistic !

  • I do train like I fight, and fight like I train. I train genuine Shaolin Kung Fu, and that's exactly what I use in sparring and fighting. If you train Kung Fu forms but then spar and fight with kickboxing, then you aren't training genuine, traditional Kung Fu.

  • Why even waste your time trying to explain this to this guy? He needs a physical lesson badly. Give him one and set him straight for life. This guy doesn't even understand what Yip Man told William Chuen to do to Bruce Lee regarding the WC cirriculum. If he doesn't know that he doesn't know ANYTHING.

  • on the show fight quest the two americans went to china to train and fight the shaolin fighters,,,,after the were done training and then the fight started did the shaolin students fight like as you see above? no! they fought like kick boxers -just goes to show all that training to teach how to fight, and in the end they dont even use that stuff when they fight---

  • in a no rules fight the Chinese fighters would have likely killed or maimed the Americans.

  • real shaolin is rare?? hardly! you can go to alot of cities in the usa where they teach REAL shaolin to JUST ABOUT ANYBODY ! if it really worked in the ring somebody would have fought like this long ago

  • I'll say it again. Genuine traditional Shaolin Kung is extremely rare. Until you understand this statement, you will not understand what I am saying.

  • The more that you say the more obvious it is that you really don't know what the hell you're talking about about. Look Up my private email and make arrangements to fight me if you want to come to my area. Then I will show you exactly what properly trained traditional martial arts are all about. All you have to do is sign a legal release and I will sign the same one. I also travel for fights and would be happy to drop in on you if you will provide address. Looking forward to shutting your mouth.

  • the technique could be modified using the same clawing principle, utilizing fists or palms and it would be legal-obviously foul tactics such as clawing is not allowed ,but technique could be modified incorporating the same principle and im willing to bet it still wouldnt work

  • if fighting like this did work, they would use it in the ufc ,especially since fingers are free to do grabbing with the gloves they use, where big money is the prize, and training such as yours is available to almost anyone,if your stuff really worked in the ring,im sure someone would have used it by now to win ...ive studied wing chun ,similar view regarding the elbow theory, against a fighter who extends fast, retracts fast, uses multiple combinations, usually one punch follows as soon as the first

  • ok,so if it is so effective against modern boxing why dont you see athletes who fight in the ring, especially in the ufc where they have there fingers available to grab, why dont they fight using this method ? i have studied wing chun,i see similarities.....especially the elbow taming, but against a boxer who extends fast, retracts fast, has multiple combinations from different angles, sometimes one punch starting quickly after the first one has started, using footwork moving at all angles, most

  • Real Shaolin Kung Fu has not yet made its way into UFC or other mainstream competitions. This is because real Shaolin Kung Fu is extremely rare. Also, the rules in UFC are always changing. Typically, it would be more effective to use other techniques. Clawing is currently forbidden, for example. Thus, the Double Tiger Claws are not a wise choice for UFC.

  • By the way, your statement above is a logical fallacy. Just because something has not appeared in UFC does not prove that it is not effective.

  • effective if the person you fight leaves their arms out or grabs you-but hardly anyone fights like that --against someone with real american boxing skills who has footwork and punches hard and RETRACTS their fist after punching -like most people do-this stuff is way outdated in real life confrontations and doesnt work against anyone with real american boxing experience !

  • Thanks for the comment. These techniques still work against boxing. Even when a boxer retracts the hand, the elbow can still be tamed and controlled. Obviously, boxers are fast, and you'll need good timing, but it can certainly be done. These techniques can also be done from the clinch.

  • By the way, I have plenty of boxing experience. I'm not using it in this video, but I know what does and doesn't work. If you are skillful, the Double Tiger Claws work well against boxing.

  • lwlwbwbw didn't we have a conversation along similar lines about Ron Baliki & how that So called JKD stuff he's peddling didn't work ether, looks good but to complex & the trapping hands stuff they teach is just BS.

Drzacksmith I cant post under this name

  • great techniques and there are a lot of submissions possible from those techniques.

  • Yes, there are a lot of potential submissions. But there are more than you might imagine! Read my comments in the "About This Video" section. My teacher can make me tap out with just one hand. His Tiger Claw is like nothing you've ever experienced.

  • Interesting demonstration of Hung Kuen/Shailon.

  • so what style of kung fu is this? Hung Gar?

    thanx

  • If you ask my teacher, he will simply say "Shaolin Kung Fu". His teacher, as well as his teacher's teacher, would have given the same answer. The monk who escaped from the Shaolin Temple also called it "Shaolin Kung Fu". Hung Gar comes from Shaolin, and Wong Fei Hung called his art "Shaolin Kung Fu". Shaolin Kung Fu is a vast art, and there are many varieties. My teacher's art is similar to Hung Gar, but relatively soft and internal.

  • hi anthony can u tell me if this type of kung is good ( the northern styles combined with the southern?)

  • Hello. I'm not sure what your question is. Could you please rephrase it?

  • Wong Fei Hong does it right, he's not so stiff.

  • Thank you for the comment. Wong Fei Hong is dead. He has been dead for over 80 years. But if you have a video of him, please share. :-)

  • Hungy Tiger Catches Goat and Fierce Tiger Descends Mountain, 2 profound patterns indeed!

  • Hi Anthony,

I know I've been asking a lot of pattern-name questions, but they're so convenient! Could you tell me the name of the pattern used by Geandmaster Wong Kiew Kit at 1:12 against your kick?

  • No problem. This one is easy! All of the counters that Sifu uses in this video are modifications of the pattern "Hungry Tiger Catches Goat". At 1:12, Sifu simply "swallows" my side kick (called "Happy Bird Hops up Branch), brushes it away with his tiger claw, and then continues with "Hungry Tiger".

  • Hi Anthony,

It's Jeffrey a.k.a. 捷霏利。 Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • Hey Jeffrey. Glad you like the video. 你怎麼樣?

  • I just can't imagine (and don't really want to) what it would be like to be on the receiving end of the double tiger claws during sparring. Especially Sigung's.

  • Being on the receiving end of Sifu's tiger claw is something else. Videos just don't capture it. The funniest thing is that Sifu says that his tiger claw is nothing compared to past masters.
