My uncle passed a way in June of 08 here in Colorado, another uncle was living in Ft. Madison, but was here on vacation . We needed help with funeral expenses, and while the people of Fort Madison were dealing with this flood, the Co workers of the uncle who lived the pooled their money and donated nearly $1000 and helped pay for my uncles hotel so he could stay longer for the funeral. I used to live there myself (aChateau apartments), my heart will always be with the people of Fort Madison, Iow
I was in Ft. Madison one night looking at the river. I didn't get there too late and to my surprise, it seemed as if the whole town of Ft. Madison had came down and helped sand-bag. It was nice to see how everyone came down to help without anyone telling them to. That is what a community is all about. It is sad that the government is quick to put media coverage all over Louisiana when Katrina hit, but no one heard of the flood in Iowa. I see where their priorities lie. I'm proud to be an Iowan.
I'm really glad I was in TN instead of Iowas this year...winter sucked, Cedar Falls and Iowa City got fucked up bad, and the water is slow going away.
