@therock19 You're right - next time we're talking about 30-year-old men pointing at their crotches telling people to suck it, pouring beer all over each other and performing human sacrifices, we'll be sure to act much more mature to respect such dignified material.
i would love to see you guys discuss austins career, i think his impact on the industry should earn him a wrestling roundtable show. Just a suggestion for the future :)
Morrison-V-Savage was a perfect 4 being part of the WWE ALL-STARS 2-Pack action figure line...AS-WELL-AS A DREAM MATCH 4 THE AGES...IMHO,anyway...Especially if it were put in2 2day/ATTITUDE ERA/SD 6/NG...
Also, will you be doing a Wrestling Roundtable for Dream Matches (describing who's fighting and the backstory you'd give for the fued) or have you already done that?
@ilikethecoke We did Dream Matches in our 18th show(#18 from 7/20/08). It's available on iTunes via our podcast and on BlogTalkRadio as well. You can find a listing of all our previous shows and the topics we've covered in the Video/Audio sections of our website. Thanks!
@WrestlingRoundtable I think it's fair to say the Attitude Era was more known for great segments and promos more than great in ring matches. I think The New Generation and the Smackdown! six were more about matches than moments. Which is way I think the not die hard wrestling regard 1998-2000 WWE so fondly. By the way just so I'm not confused which guys were the Smackdown six?
@keh678 Close Los Guerreros (counts as one), Benoit, Lesnar, Angle, Mysterio, and Edge. The Smackdown! six. Don't feel awful I had to double check and ask the same question.
I truly think the Attitude Era completely ended in between early to mid 2002. Both Rock and Steve Austin left, the Hardcore title was retired, the European title was retired, the WWF 'attitude' heavyweight title was retired for the Undisputed title, RAW IS WAR was discontinued, Jakked/Metal was discontinued, the Brand Extension was introduced, etc etc. Wrestlemania 17 was just the BEGINNING of the end of the Attitude Era. At least for me for me anyway.
Love your vids and site guy but can somebody tell Will to stop saying "phenomenal" just because you use that word it doesnt make you seem smarter than the others(Or are you just watching shoots by Raven on a constant loop....Try saying tremendous every now and again ya fool)
Best Shows IMO were Canadian Stampede, Summerslam 1997,1998,2000, Fully Loaded 1998,1999,2000, King Of The Ring 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, Ground Zero, Bad Blood 1997, Judgement Day 1998, 2000, 2001, Royal Rumble 1998, 2000, 2001, St. Valentine's Day Massacre, No Mercy 1999, 2000, Survivor Series 1997, 1998 (sorry Eric), 1999 (debatable), Armageddon 2000, No Way Out 2000, 2001, Backlash 1999, 2000, 2001.
I absolutely hate how people say this era ended at Wrestlemania 17. If people got their heads out of their asses they would see where it really ended, KING OF THE RING 2001. Attitude Era was from Wrestlemania 13 - King of the Ring 2001.
@turnstylezdrumming because the product after wrestlemania was EXACTLY the same as it was the only difference after it was the sex part of the WWF was toned down. Also, people say it was the end because of some shit like "oh because austin aligned with mcmahon" or "because this was the show where all the big stars were there". If you look back it was EXACTLY the same as it was before. Then throughout late may/early june the seeds were planted for the INVASION. Then at KOTR booker t comes in
Attitude Era was awesome no doubt. Yeah it had its bad moments but overall I think it was by far the best era in WWF. It had great hardcore guys like Mick Foley, big men like Kane, Undertaker, Big Show, Test, Albert. many good/great tag teams like Hardys, Edge & Christian, Dudleys, Acolytes, Too Cool, New Age Outlaws, Rock N' Sock, Straight up wrestlers like Tazz, Angle, Jericho, Guerrero, Malenko, Essa Rios. GREAT main event guys like Austin, Rock and Triple H. Attitude had a variety.
I love how people say WWE won't push WCW guys. Anybody remember Lady Blossom managing "Stunning" Steve Austin, who became "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, the biggest guy in the Attitude Era.
@TheManiacOnWheelsUSA Well Austin came to WWF before the attitude era had really started and WCW became a threat. I think when people say WWE wouldn't push WCW guys, they are referring mostly to the post-invasion angle when ECW and WCW guys kinda got dumped on for a while.
@mania17austin heh, well, why did you hate it so much? It was funny in the cheesy manner it was intended to be I think, but were you disappointed he didn't turn in to Cactus Jack? I know that's what I was expecting. Maybe they knew people were expecting that and this was a SWERVE!
is Vince ruso really as bad as people say? I was a casual viewer of the attitude era I really liked it but I agree there was allot of BS in it great review guys
i think Chazz Warrington was going 4 the "Regular Guy From Jersey...Living His Dream Of Being A WWF/WWE Superstar" gimmick...after being a Headbanger (which,i thought, had its moments) & "Beaver Clevage" (which...well...sucked)...2 bad it never really took off...& he was released months later...if they signed Chaz taylor (from GWF/Global)...that wouldve been WAY cooler...just saying...
i think Chazz Warrington was going 4 the "Regular Guy From Jersey...Living His Dream Of Being A WWF/WWE Superstar" gimmick...after being a Headbanger (which,i thought, had its moments) & "Beaver Clevage" (which...well...sucked)...2 bad it never really took off...& he was released months later...
i dont know if this is too early to be attitude, but HBK/Taker in HIAC is one of favorite matches every and i think was one of taker's best matches to that point
Best Matches of the Attitude Era.....what about Kane/Undertaker WM 14? HBK/Austin WM14? or perhaps the match that really sparked the attitude era...HBK/Hitman Survivor Series 1997...the whole "screw" job...made Vince the "ultimate" bad guy..
The Attitude Era was at its best at its very cusp and beginning, from 1997-1998: Stone Cold vs. The Hart Foundation, Bret vs. Shawn, the introduction of DX, Stone Cold vs. Michaels at WMXIV....Then it all started going downhill.
I think a great show for you guys to do sometime would be "What would you have done with WWE during the Invasion?" It was such a terrible few months for wrestling so it would be great to hear your thoughts on how you would have done it. I really liked the wcw after starrcade '97 show and so one on the invasion would be awesome.
To me one of the better matches of the attitude era (and yes it involved weapons lol) was Shane McMahon vs Kurt Angle at the KOTR 2001...especially that sick spot where Angle tried to suplex Shane through the glass. Every time I see that I think of those don't try this at home ads...that thud his head made was sickening to hear!
Val venis for one is one of the worst things to ever happen in the attitude era. I mean seriously a fucking pornstar gimmick? really? It was so damn dumb.
one of my favorite matches of the Attitude Era was definitely the Bret/Taker WWF title match from SummerSlam '97...HBK being the guest referee and nailing Taker with the chair and then being forced to count the 3 and give his arch-nemesis the World title was classic
good call on Shamrock/Rock King of the Ring '98 final...the Shamrock/Rock I-C title feud was great in '98 and '98 was the last year the I-C title felt like it had the prestige that it had pre-Attitude Era
@miggy25 I wouldn't call the Bret/Taker match at Summerslam '97 part of The Attitude Era at all,but the match sucked because special guest referee Shawn Michaels was the entire focal point of the match as well as their feud.Bret beating the 'Taker was an aferthought and moot point.
For worst moments, how about the "brawl for all" boxing tournament during the summer of 98? Loved how they tried to convince us that this was "real", but they always claimed to be sports entertainment though. I didnt buy it lol!
@kamikazekid86 As far as I know,Brawl For It All was unscripted. However,if Steve Williams had won the tournament, they had a plan set in motion for him to feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin.
imh/ho,guys...4 a 30+ mom of 2-&/or-3 kids...STEPHANIE'S STILL H-O-T!!!!!...like i said...imh/ho,guys...dont hate...its just in my humble/honest opinion...
My favorite part of the Hardcore battle royal was when some pothead tried to pause the clock at 420 but the stoner messed it up the the clock pauses at 421 or 419 then the clock disappears and only pops up every now and again.
Favourite match was HBK V Undertaker: Hell in a Cell.
But, I also loved Mankind and Taker hell in a cell. Pure madness. I know I'm a HBK mark, but when he left, it became less about the matches and more about the shocks and surprises. This is why I think we have a mixture of the two today.
great show i think some of the matches and stuff they think sucked i kinda liked back then maybe cuz i was like 10 in the attitude era but i like hearing other ppls opinon on wrestling kinda opens my eyes alittle more thx for the great shows
I disliked the Attitude Era alot because of how they began to "devalue" the belts that they had. It seemed like all the belts were just bonafied "props". I still think that we are feeling the effects of this today. With the Big Gold belt and WWE Championships changing hands atleast 10 times combined already in this year. I think it's ridiculous, but the WWE thinks its entertaining. They also devalue some of their "violent" gimmick matches like Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, etc.
@girthanthraclops same here I hated how the Attitude Era de-valued the titles...the 50 title changes a year were completely overdone and really made the belts lose some of their prestige....championships are glorified props nowadays and its sad
The Attitude era was great for was 'moments' as opposed to matches. As I think Chris said, because WWF programming reverted almost to a series of Mad Tv esq 'skits', some of them were very entertaining, and some of them were flat out embarrassing. Though I think late 99/ 2000 was the time where they were able to effectively balance skits with great quality wrestling, thanks largely to the arrival of the Radicalz, Angle, Tazz and Jericho.
@tristessa56079 Well, it is interesting to me, that when most non wrestling fans or even pro wrestling fans mention the Attitude Era in WWE everyone mentions moments. I can dare say maybe a handful of people mention matches. Almost everyone mentions moments. Not that that is awful or anything. Just that my memories of my favorite moments in WWE are matches more than anything else.
@5starwrestlingradio Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it. Be sure to check out the follow-up Radio show we did where we have even more Attitude talk if you didn't already.
One thing I noticed about the Attitude Era is the amount of titles because in 97, the European title became the mid card belt over the IC belt and in 99, when Shane won it buried the IC belt because there where one great matches for the IC belt til 2000 when Angle won it and the rest of the year til October. And roundtable, would you guys think about doing a show on the New Generation era (93-96) because that era had a great year in 94 then a horrible year in 95.
I remember as a kid going absolutely MAD watching Trips and Rock at Summerslam '98! I agree Bossman getting lynched by Taker and the Brood was a bit much, and he was back on TV soon after, which was weird. Austin and Helmsley vs. Jericho and Benoit for the tag team titles was one of my favourite matches of the Attitude Era that wasn't mentioned.
I'm so glad "I choppy choppy your pee pee" got mentioned.
I'm kind of like Eric, that moment is "So bad it's good", it was so wonderfully absurd.
However for a truly crappy Kai-En-Tai, remember the whole thing with Taka Michinoku, Mr. Yamaguchi, and Ms. Yamaguchi, with the big reveal of "SHE MY SISTAH"?
Seriously, does anyone else remember that? I don't want to think I just imagined something that stupid.
i agree that the hanging of the big boss man was too much, as well as the whole ministry of darkness thing as it had to have scared countless of the kids that were still watching despite it being "tv-14."
I agree Vince winning the world title was just awful. Vince more or less destroyed a lot of the credibility of the belt when he decided to feed his ego by doing that shit. Also I agree, the Kennel from Hell was quite literally shit.
@Euroheat0022 All right, I agree with you that Vince winning the WWE Title wasn't great, but he stripped himself of the title on the next RAW at least it wasn't as awful as David Arquette winning the WCW Title in 2000.
@Wrestlingroundtable Would you consider Wrestlemania 14 to be a best overall show for the attitude era? personally i prefer it over wrestlemania 17 but that is just me, mainly because of the ending of rock austin, the gimmick battle royal, and chyna squashing ivory (who didnt c that coming?)
@COOLY511 Off the top of my head, I'd say yes, if not at the very least the best WrestleMania. I dislike the very things from WrestleMania 17 you mentioned, though Chyna squashing Ivory I thought was fine, heh. Anyway, I can't overstate how much I liked WrestleMania 14.
@WrestlingRoundtable To me, Wrestlemania 14 will always be the best PPV of the attitude era. The worst I have to go with Unforgiven 1999. Was there anything good or worth mentioning in a good light about that PPV? I can't remember one thing I liked about it. At least WM 15, 17, and Summerlam 1999 had a couple of things I liked.
@WrestlingRoundtable Your comment Santamaria about the ep of RAW in September of 1998... maybe the most chaotic RAW ep. of all time and I remember I was in a hospital bed in my apartment, a body cast up to my stomach, and I had just gotten out of the hospital maybe three months before this and those two segments made me forget I was in a body cast and in a hospital bed I was just so pumped. Maybe the most pumped I've ever felt watching a RAW.
@WrestlingRoundtable Well, bottom line WWE "Attitude" was a whirlwind relationship really for a lot of us "extreme fans" who watch pro wrestling no matter who popular it is. My point is when WWE "Attitude" was great it was really great and it was awful well it was really awful. Ironically, the most awful part of the WWE "Attitude" Era happened in WCW in late autumn and winter 1999. lol.
@WrestlingRoundtable Your comment about Kurt Angle and the HHH Steph storyline. I see your point, now I wasn't a huge fan of it because I was thinking Angle just won King of The Ring shouldn't he be facing The Rock for the WWE Title? Which I find ironic because you mentioned HHH put a squash to that, did he really or was that Angle's test to see if he can handle a main event or a semi event spot so he proved legit to win the WWE Title?
@WrestlingRoundtable I didn't mind the Gimmick Battle Royal at all because it was nostalgic for those of us who grew up on those stars, but Undertaker vs.HHH wasn't that great and the Austin vs.Rock match sucked on account of Austin's heel turn that nobody even suspected would happen. It was Austin's decision to turn heel then, however.
@landrykkb Of course, it was all for the entrances really, I just hate that they used the term "Gimmick." UT/HHH was pretty good if nothing else. I don't know if "great" is the word(probably because of the crash pad spot, heh), but it was good if nothing else. And I would never use the word "sucked" to describe the main event in any way other than the finish. The finish was dumb for numerous reasons, esp. in hindsight of course, but the match before that was absolutely incredible.
@WrestlingRoundtable I hear you on using that term "Gimmick".I thought that it minimized all the participants and passed them off as if they were all useless, although we both know that's not the case.It isn't as if you always have a choice in what your character is going to be when you sign with WWE,but it's up to you to make the gimmick work to your advantage.
You get what you used to get from wrestlong out of MMA? The UFC hasn't exactly been HOT this year. The Lesnar and Carwin card was solid, but the rest of this year has been flat IMHO. The UFC has mastered the art of hyping their product. However, the cards never live up to said hype. Maybe it is impossible to do so, maybe they hype the fights too well haha.
@Johnnyawesome24 It has(been HOT) the past few months, at least for me. I've loved the past several PPVs. And I'd strongly disagree the cards 'never' live up the hype. While Jackson/Evans certainly did not, I can safely say that I rarely feel like a UFC show let me down, even though they were in kind of a slump after last summer through til a few months ago.
@WrestlingRoundtable I suppose "never" was a twinge of an overstatement, forgive me for speaking in hyperbole. It just seems like UFC is losing steam to me. Bellator, however, is highly entertaining. To be fair, MMA has always been hot/cold for me. I love all of the disciplines by themselves, but when mixed it often falls flat and looks unpolished to me. I'd spend top dollar to watch Overeem face Lesnar or Fedor. Or maybe Werdum in a rematch.
@WrestlingRoundtable Best debut in WWE Attitude Era, Chris Jericho. Maybe one of the best debut's in that era along with Kane and Tazz's. Worst probably has to go to Dr. Death Steve Williams because wasn't he supposed to win Brawl for All and challenge Austin at Summerslam 1998 or Wrestlemania XV for the WWE Title and then he got hurt and he was stuck doing that horrid Jim Ross story-line where he was JR's flunky.
Royal Rumble 2000 was one of my favorite PPV's ever. You had Cactus and Triple H in a good street-fight, the Rock winning the Rumble, you had the Dudley's and the Hardy's in a table match, Jericho win the IC belt in a triple threat match, and Tazz SQUASH Angle IN MSG! The atmosphere there was crazy.
When bad things happened in the ATTITUDE ERA it didn't matter because it was so good that people didn't mind it. And bad stuff barely happened anyway.
And the Sad Moments in the Attitude Era We're Brian Pillman Death, Owen Hart Death on 5/23/99, and the last time we see Gorillia Monsoon on TV and it's sad seeing him in that state in Wrestlemania XIV before his death in October of 99.
Another Best Match in the Attitude Era was Jericho vs He vs Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat Match for the IC and European Belt at Wrestlemania 2000 (XVI shoulda fuckin call it).
best AE ppv, no way out 2001-3 stages of hell, 4 way for the ic belt, a surprising steph/trish match ( this was the first match for both) and rock/angle for the wwf title.
one of my favorite moments was the street fight austin vs bret on raw. real life bret needed knee surgery. so austn destroyed bret's leg. he had to be taken tot he hospital. he was strapped to a gurney, wheeled into an ambulance. but it didnt move. closeup shows scsa is driving. he moves to the back. unloads on bret.
@reh629 Absolutely on both points. I hope to mention both of these on the next Radio show this Tuesday when we do our follow-up on this topic & go more in-depth. Thanks for bringing them up!
@edgehead2002 Well, that's hard to say, because while on one hand, there's absolutely no reason why we COULDN'T, wrestling itself is so stuck in it's old ways(WWE with their scripted promos and cookie cutter style, TNA trying to be like them or even like Attitude, no one else stepping up or just plain copying WWE, etc.), that it doesn't look likely. Wrestling just chose to stop evolving around the turn of the century, imo.
@edgehead2002 In so many words, haha. At the very least, a lot of fans of the show have been turned on to MMA by us, so I'm happy about that. I've ranted many times about how everything I used to get out of wrestling, I now get out of MMA, but to me, what's good is good forever, and I can watch classic wrestling(usually older stuff at this point, esp. Nitros from 96-98ish) forever. I'm just really not in to anything going on at the moment. But who knows what the future holds.
Best Attitude Moments,Brooklyn Brawler beating Triple H in a Smackdown Episode,Kurt Angle Pourning Milk on the Undertaker Motorcyle celebrating his win and he didn't notice it and call a Taxi for not getting his ass kick by the Undertaker,Mankind Winning the Belt on RAW,Tyson Joining DX,McMahon Pissing his pants on a RAW Episode after Judgement Day, and Kane Tombstone Pete Rose once but twice in Wrestlemania.
worst: 2 min matches. a typical raw match was opening bell, collar elbow tie-up, finisher, next backstage segment.
constant title changes. fans bitch now about title changes. during AE, wrestler a would win the belt on raw then lose it on smackdown. kayfabe title reign: 4 days. real life, less than 24 hours.
Worst Moments in the Attitude Era Was Bart Gunn Beating Dr. Death Steve Williams in the Brawl for All in the Summer of 98, Billy Gunn Winning King of Ring 99,Vince Winning the WWF Championship Belt,DX 2000 Including having RUN DMC singing their Theme,The Helmsey-McMahon ERa, and Rikishi Turning Heel in October of 2000 and saying he run over Austin and he did for the Rock, He never recover after that.
@DiegoGurrolo I love the Mcmahon-Helmsley era/DX storyline in 2000. I remember I hated Triple H with a passion for always screwing The Rock over. Lol.
I'd say No Way Out 2001, Backlash 2000, and Judgement Day 2000 are some of my favorite WWF shows from the Attitude Era (and ever). Then again, these were non-Russo shows that had much more wrestling than in previous years and shows. But for real Attitude spewing show, WM14 did it for me.
IMO. Sumerslam 2000 was a great show and one of my favorites. The Triple Threat with Rock, HHH, and Angle, the "1st" TLC match, Tazz and The King, Road Dogg and X-Pac, Shane McMahon doing the 20 foot fall. It's just one of my favorites. I also did enjoyed the McMahon/Helmsley Era as it put me to hate Triple H to want him to loose the title. :P The build up leading to the main event at Wrestlemania 2000. And also the storyline of Rock/Austin 99.
I don't remember if this was attitude era or not, but that mixed tag match with Trish Stratus and Jackie Gayda making her WWE debut after tough enough. Lawd have mercy that was terrible.
For one of the worst matches I would have to mention ICP vs. The Headbangers on Raw in 1998. A total mess of a match with below-avarage wrestlers/2 rappers sandbagging (Which never ends well, just ask Bob Holly) and stiffing eachother.
I would have to say some of my favourite matches were Mankind against Taker (Hell in a Cell KOTR) for the obvious big spots, and the empty arena match The Rock against Mankind on Sunday night HEAT. Ironically I've never been a big Foley fan he just fills out the role of getting beat up well. (Glorified stuntman)
The thing that killed empty arena match for me was the end of it, with the camera zooming in on the Rock from above as the forklift was being lowered. It was a fun little concept though (which had been done before but not at that level of both hardcore wrestling and talent in The Rock and Foley).
@PowerlineWC I agree the end of the match was corny to say the least but the Rock tasting the food and saying "It's mild" and proceeding to strike Foley in the face is priceless. My favourite stuff with the Rock is from Nation of Domination to end of 2000, after that his face persona began to get stale for me.
Oh man, I would agree the face stuff got stale (not without a few shining moments though). I know I am probably in the minority on this but when the Rock turned heel at the very end, the "Hollywood Rock" as I have heard it called, that was my favorite. The singing was kindof a shark-jumper, but he was more of a prick than ever. It was great. I KNOW it won't happen but if he ever does make the constantly teased appearance on Raw as GM I would MUCH rather have that Rock.
@PowerlineWC Also one of my favourite Rock personas was the one you mentioned, "Hollywood Rock" good, ego crazy heel. Yeah I think the GM could be The Rock, I don't really read spoilers and such but heard he was rumoured to return at SS. As long as it's not Vickie Guerrero I am pleased.
I dunno if he's the GM (I still think it'll end up being Jim Ross myself). One of these weeks they'll end the emails with some Rock quote to throw everyone off.
The Rock has said he and Vince have discussed how he could show up on Raw someday and all he said about those talks was that neither side wanted to do just a one-time appearance.
I think the hardcore battle royal at WM 2000 was a great match. Botched finish but total chaos and some super stiff spots. Highly entertaining but of course, lacking technical or actual "wrestling"
My favorite matches from the attitude era:
I loved Benoit vs Rock at Fully Loaded 2000 even with the ending
Rock vs Undertaker at King of the Ring 99
TLC 3 I enjoyed too especially with Benoit coming back out.
My favorite moments:
Austin coming out in the suit because McMahon forced him.
When Undertaker tried to embalm Austin then Austin and Kane throwing Bearer into the sewers
And when Austin showed up with the monster truck and ruined his funeral.

I absolutely hate how people say this era ended at Wrestlemania 17. If people got their heads out of their asses they would see where it really ended, KING OF THE RING 2001. Attitude Era was from Wrestlemania 13 - King of the Ring 2001.

TheManiacOnWheelsUSA 11 months ago
@TheManiacOnWheelsUSA Well Austin came to WWF before the attitude era had really started and WCW became a threat. I think when people say WWE wouldn't push WCW guys, they are referring mostly to the post-invasion angle when ECW and WCW guys kinda got dumped on for a while.

The Attitude Era was at its best at its very cusp and beginning, from 1997-1998: Stone Cold vs. The Hart Foundation, Bret vs. Shawn, the introduction of DX, Stone Cold vs. Michaels at WMXIV....Then it all started going downhill.

To me one of the better matches of the attitude era (and yes it involved weapons lol) was Shane McMahon vs Kurt Angle at the KOTR 2001...especially that sick spot where Angle tried to suplex Shane through the glass. one of my favorite matches of the Attitude Era was definitely the Bret/Taker WWF title match from SummerSlam '97...HBK being the guest referee and nailing Taker with the chair and then being forced to count the 3 and give his arch-nemesis the World title was classic
good call on Shamrock/Rock King of the Ring '98 final...the Shamrock/Rock I-C title feud was great in '98 and '98 was the last year the I-C title felt like it had the prestige that it had pre-Attitude Era
miggy25 1 year ago
@miggy25 I wouldn't call the Bret/Taker match at Summerslam '97 part of The Attitude Era at all,but the match sucked because special guest referee Shawn Michaels was the entire focal point of the match as well as their feud.Bret beating the 'Taker was an aferthought and moot point.

They also devalue some of their "violent" gimmick matches like Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, etc.
girthanthraclops 1 year ago
@girthanthraclops same here I hated how the Attitude Era de-valued the titles...the 50 title changes a year were completely overdone and really made the belts lose some of their prestige....championships are glorified props nowadays and its sad
miggy25 1 year ago
The Attitude era was great for was 'moments' as opposed to matches. As I think Chris said, because WWF programming reverted almost to a series of Mad Tv esq 'skits', some of them were very entertaining, and some of them were flat out embarrassing. Though I think late 99/ 2000 was the time where they were able to effectively balance skits with great quality wrestling, thanks largely to the arrival of the Radicalz, Angle, Tazz and Jericho.
tristessa56079 1 year ago
@tristessa56079 Well, it is interesting to me, that when most non wrestling fans or even pro wrestling fans mention the Attitude Era in WWE everyone mentions moments. Just that my memories of my favorite moments in WWE are matches more than anything else.

@WrestlingRoundtable Well, bottom line WWE "Attitude" was a whirlwind relationship really for a lot of us "extreme fans" who watch pro wrestling no matter who popular it is.

It was Austin's decision to turn heel then, however.
landrykkb 1 year ago
@landrykkb Of course, it was all for the entrances really, I just hate that they used the term "Gimmick." UT/HHH was pretty good if nothing else. I don't know if "great" is the word(probably because of the crash pad spot, heh), but it was good if nothing else. And I would never use the word "sucked" to describe the main event in any way other than the finish. The finish was dumb for numerous reasons, esp. in hindsight of course, but the match before that was absolutely incredible.
-E
WrestlingRoundtable 1 year ago

Johnnyawesome24 1 year ago
@Johnnyawesome24 It has(been HOT) the past few months, at least for me. I've loved the past several PPVs. And I'd strongly disagree the cards 'never' live up the hype. While Jackson/Evans certainly did not, I can safely say that I rarely feel like a UFC show let me down, even though they were in kind of a slump after last summer through til a few months ago.
-E, Wrestling Roundtable
WrestlingRoundtable 1 year ago
@WrestlingRoundtable I suppose "never" was a twinge of an overstatement, forgive me for speaking in hyperbole. It just seems like UFC is losing steam to me. Bellator, however, is highly entertaining. To be fair, MMA has always been hot/cold for me. I love all of the disciplines by themselves, but when mixed it often falls flat and looks unpolished to me. I'd spend top dollar to watch Overeem face Lesnar or Fedor. Or maybe Werdum in a rematch.
Johnnyawesome24 1 year ago
@WrestlingRoundtable Best debut in WWE Attitude Era, Chris Jericho. Maybe one of the best debut's in that era along with Kane and Tazz's. Worst probably has to go to Dr. Death Steve Williams because wasn't he supposed to win Brawl for All and challenge Austin at Summerslam 1998 or Wrestlemania XV for the WWE Title and then he got hurt and he was stuck doing that horrid Jim Ross story-line where he was JR's flunky.
