The second track is a note-for-note cover of "Beck's Bolero" by Jeff Beck, recorded in 1966 with Jimmy Page on rhythm guitar,Keith Moon on drums, Nicky Hopkins on piano, and John Paul Jones on bass. The instrumental was first released in 1967 by Jeff Beck as a B side on EMI Columbia in the UK. This is NOT Maurice Ravel's Bolero but Jeff Beck's Bolero. They are totally different. The SRC version even includes Keith Moon's scream in the break when he knocked over the mic.
loved this src album and when heard this by them, thought, WOW ! they all went there way. ahead of there time. in fact,,the vyn album was stole from me due to it,s intense content.
I remember hearing this for the very first time after dropping a hit of white lightening. Damn, was I in for one beautifully colourful flight, of an exciting night of fright!
Strange days. Had the MILESTONES album. Lived in Wisconsin. SRC was a big influence throughout the upper midwest. Lot of immensely cool bands from that area in the late sixties.
I bought the LP back in 1970 from a friend for 3 bucks. The Bolero is nothing like Ravel's. This Bolero is known as "Beck's Bolero". I have always loved this song on this album. I had never heard of the band before I got the album and I listened to it over and over for many years. It was a sleeper of a great album. A few years ago I found a CD of the same album. They recorded 2 other LP's and I never have heard those. I wonder where all the band members are today.
Also the free concerts in Rouge Park just off Joy Road....now that was a happening time; love ins, hate ins, kite ins, sit ins, White Panthers, SDS, Weathermen, Yippies [Youth International Party], Kennedy Square, Grande, Eastown, Westside Six, Cobo Hall, Rock & Roll Revivals @ State Fair Grounds and all so much more. What an experience and thank God I got to live it all.
I had this album when I was a teenager. This thing on youtube is great! I love the artwork! Hawkmoon, you did a hell of a good job putting this together. Thanks!
The SRC (Scot Richard Case) are reforming for their first performance in 40 years! The line features Scott Richardson, Glenn Quackenbush, Gary Quackenbush, Steve Lyman and Ray Goodman. For fans of classic Detroit rock & roll this is a dream come true! Doors open at 8pm and tickets are $25 (SRO).

great post!Nothin like the sixties in Sweet home Michigan!Used to see these guys at Sherwood forest near Davison, along with Third Power and The Psychedelic Stooges, and The MC 5
Scott, Richardson, and Case. Now that takes me back to my old home of Flint, 30 some , make that 40 some years ago. digging in thrift stores, hitting garage sales for all this rare music. thanks for the memory.
Getting to see them do this at the Olympic Stadium back on October 31, 1968 in Detroit was an awesome event, as we walked throught the hallways the music was reverbrating off the walls and just added to the height of the intense trip the whole night was; the 1st and only Halloween Festival. What a night! Got to see the MC5 at the Grande the night before, they were recording the Kick Out The Jams Album, that's how we kick in and out that weekend. Oh were those the days when life was exploring.
Fun to read all the posts... Used to see them all over Michigan and at the Odyssey Bar in Ann Arbor ... Great stuff! Drove to gigs at all the lake resorts and to the Grande in my 1940 Buick ... Flashbacks! Gary still plays blues in A Square - from what I hear ... Has a CD out - google or something ... can't remember how - but I've got a copy ....
@anablic Now those were the days when you could walk into the door of the Grande or Eastown, even the Westside Six, and pay $2 & see all the Greatest of the rock & roll movement of the 60's; all those smoke filled air nights, witnessing what only but a few out of the population of millions got to see, & generations after dream of seeing. Did you get to make the Hollween Rock Festival at Olympic Stadium on 10-31-68; SRC was kicking ass that night, MC5 the night before recording live at Grande.WOW
@grandeballroom1968 Black Magic and Rock & Roll Festival at Olympia Stadium Halloween Oct 31 1968. I was there but shoot I had just turned 14 so I can't remember much. Is there a poster or lineup out there?
@jodianneth Sorry to have taken this long to respond. I have the handbill/postcard of the night copied in my cyber archives some place and when I find it, I will get a copy to you as soon as I find it. I'll try to locate it tonight hopefully. A group of about 10 people went there that night and had a blast until the frigging cops pulled the plug at 11pm citing curfew as being the reason....what a bummer; we didn't get to see The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and his song Fire.
@grandeballroom1968 Happy to see you mention the WESTSIDE SIX, folks usually forget--But don't forget The (Infamous) ODYSSEY in Ann Arbor or the Eastside's Red Carpet, not to mention The Rock 'Roll (Funny) Farm on Michigan Avenue. Us Detroiters are a very lucky bunch when it comes to the music scene in the Motor and its environs...
@ChordBender Caught alot of great stuff in the last days of the Eastown. I just learned that there is a live King Crimson cd made from old tapes from their gig at the Eastown with Procol Harum. I was 10 feet from the stage for that one. That was an amazing show
@westpalmscott Good music there (used to drive from MSU): Derek & The Dominos, Johnny Winter, J. Geils, Humble Pie, Terry Reid (Zeps 1st choice for singer!), SRC, Nugent, Catfish, Tommy Bolins Zephyr. Even more at the Grande. You're not Scott of SRC perchance? I met an elder Quackenbush in a nursing home in Ann Arbor.
used to visit friends in Toronto, maybe 1970, this band & album were a big hit with a considerable circle of friends, sort of special because the band otherwise seemed unkown
music a step beyond rock n roll without losing any of the heavy quality that everyone loved
Saw them at Temple Theater in Saginaw , early 70's.With a group called "Pacific Gas & Electric"? This has always been my favorite version. Thans for the post
I remember when SRC played this song at North Farmington High School (Michigan) around 1970. The also did several other songs from Milestone. I saw them later at a concert at OCC, but by then, they had lost some of their sound. One of the best Detroit area bands that included Frigid Pink, the Rationals, MC5....
SRC was one of the premier Detroit Bands of the 60's. It's just too bad that the rest of the country never really got to hear much of their music.

I remember them playing this way back when in Windsor Ontario.
Quackenbush was playing a black Les Paul through two Vox Super Beatles.
The other guy was playing a Vox tear drop guitar.
The floor literally shook and it was magnificent!!

Lot of cool Detroit area bands back then-Bob Seger System, Amboy Dukes, Frigid Pink, Mitch Ryder, MC5, the Stooges, etc...
Great fuzz-tone and really well-recorded for the day. Proto-groovy.
