My opinion - as the late, great Frank Zappa said, "Shut up, and play your guitar". If you don't like Gibsons, don't buy one. I've had "name brand" guitars that played worse than knock-offs, and vice versa.Personally, I'll listen to a player first, and then wonder what he's playing afterwards.
ok personaly i hate most gibsons, especialy les pauls. in fact i go as far to say that the only gibson i like is the sg standard and i have 4 of them. to be honest i agree gibsons qc is cruddy, hence why if you go to a dealer you can try before you buy, and then you don't get a duff guitar. but as for les paul guitars i err on the side of other brands, more often than not you get a cheaper but better guitar. to be honest the sg wiped the floor with the les paul hence why it was droped for the sg
@TomMorella That's the cool thing about this Trem that this guy misses in stating. The whole point of this trem is the fact that it's guaranteed not to de-tune the rest if you break any strings. It is also probably ths most silky smooth trem ever and because of it's mechanical prowess, it allows much more sustain than others.
I also might suggest using a roller nut with a strat version as I do, adding to string life, pitch control and sustain. Can't vouche for other styles as I have a Strat.
@superstriker00 there is now, they actually used my 65 strat to create the prototype baseplate for the strat. with help or doug darling of soulmate guitars who made a custom neck for me, they started out with a new baseplate but doug made a block mount inside to anchor it, from this though, Eric had come up with an internal clamp solution. so you no longer need an anchor of any kind. I am keeping mine with the anchor cuz it was $200 bucks and ads to the the mass, next custom I will use the clamp
@m1j3 thats what i was thinkin and i think you should be able to... talk to a guitar tech (the repair guy at your local guitar store, or sometimes they have em at guitar center) and i think as long as the tailpiece specification is the same, it should drop on the same
@MeanGreenMovies it stays in tune well once the strings have been stretched enough. i just put mine one on my sg and stays in tune amazingly. just when all the strings are on make sure u stretch them by goin up and down with the trem arm
@dansterwerecool- Why? The Les Paul is a shape. there are Les Pauls miles better than a gibson for cheaper :/ Not saying Gibson is bad, but honestly their quality control is shit.
@TreyarchIsGay- A les paul is anything Les puts his name on. He took his name off the gibson SG which was originally called a les paul. He didn't like it, he took his name off. That single cutaway was his shape, that's why it has his name on it. Les coulda had his name removed from gibsons, and put it on hagstrom single cutaways. Then those would have been "real" les pauls. The shape is too iconic to be pigeonholed with one brand.
@superlou1s The single cutaway was used by Gibson way before Les' model. He had much less to do with the model than most people think he did. Les even admitted that. His major influence on the LP was that it was a solid body- thats pretty much it. He is even called the "inventor of the sold body" which isnt true either- Fender had the first solid body electrics. Indeed, anything other than a Gibson or Epiphone is not a Les Paul.
@dmedicFF- We aren't even talking about any single cut electric guitar, you just responded to a two month old comment and brought up a ton of irrelevant information. No one ever said Lester Polfus invented the single cut. But there's a reason he's associated with the les paul solid bodied shape. And your argument had nothing to do with brand names, then suddenly you jam them in at the end without providing any evidence to back it up. Screw off I really doubt anyone cares.
@superlou1s You said: "that single cutaway was his shape, thats why it has his name on it"- and you're wrong. TreyarchisGay is correct- if it isnt a Gibson or Epiphone, it is not a Les Paul. The other "irrelevant information" is for your future benefit. Too many people out there who think they know what they are talking about, but don't.
@dmedicFF- You're so right dude, with all your technicalities, you're so right and awesome, ya fucking nerd. Stop arguing semantics, no one fucking CARES who owns the goddamn trademark.
@dmedicFF Actually,The "App guitar" made by a fellow named Appleton somewhere in Iowa, invented the solidbody electric sometime between 1942-43(unless you consider lapsteels which go back to the 20's and 30's)).Though you are correct that Fender mass manufactured the 1st solids that were fret-able.Amazingly,the App guitar looks almost exactly like a Les Paul...
@TheTelecaster14- That's a stupid point. There are thousands and thousands of people who prefer other makes of les pauls over gibson. Just because you mention two famous musicians who use gibson (and Jimmy page had his best tone when he used a telecaster) doesn't make it a fucking law.
@GetOnMyL1ama You say that like it's a bad thing, I can make a guitar with a mahogany body, maple top, burst finish, 24.75 scale, rosewood fingerboard, jumbo frets in the same shape and construction as a Gibson Les Paul and it well sound better because Gibson's USA models no longer use Nitro lacquer, you'd have to go to their custom shop for that. And even if you do manage to get one with that lacquer good luck getting them to use genuine hide glue like they used to. False: maybe, bad: no
@Rontrick ive tried dive bombing with my les paul on this thing and it stays in tune very well. it does usually keep it in tune but there are no guarentees on that but yeah, it will return to perfect tuning most of the time
You can pull up or dive bomb. I played one at the NAMM show it was great! The feel is very very smooth. The tension is light, think of a Kahler with less friction.
I bought one and neglected to read the manual's setup guide. Then I went to string it up without setting it up properly and I broke seven High E strings before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Instead of using the outer screws to push the bridge the strings were pulling it, Causing them to be under extreme tension. My bad. After adjusting the screws to push the bridge it stopped them from being under extreme tension. Make sure to read the manual BEFORE you install it, folks.
i got strat, so cool. but this is good to know! Fascinating! This would make my 2001 Gibson Les Paul Special SL Humbucker Mo vintage, and fun! & no new holes, just save orig hardware! Fantastic! Nice playing, by the way. Thanks Bro!
