It is a serious issue and I believe we need more funding and inquiries related to the issue. I lost my grandmother last October to it and it was a long and painfull road. As much as it killed me, I don't believe it's one of our "major" issues facing the country right now. Thanks for your message. When Medicare goes bankrupt in 8-10 years over this and all the people who are going to get Alzheimer's, it is a major issue facing each and every one of us in this country.
There is medication now that will help prevent it. My wife works in the pharmaceutical industry, so I read some of her trade journals. The solution certainly will not help those outside of the U.S. who cannot get access to these treatments, but it will reduce the incidences of Alzheimer's here.
Eventually, it will be available as all other drugs are (though I'm sure they will cost a lot).
I keep up with the medical journals on preventing Alzheimer's disease. If there is a medication that will prevent this plague, it's being kept under wraps - tightly. There are many things that can be done,both for the sufferer and to prevent the disease, but, as far as I know, there is no certain prevention, no certain cure.

Thanks Regraetz for posting this. Many of the postings on YouTube must be from young people who simply do not understand the issues or the consequences of having a bankrupt medicare system. The whole US healthcare system is going to flatline over this -- American's would be shocked to know what I have learned in the past year since our kids got this diagnosis. We have researchers who don't even share data with each other yet are working in the same areas and trying to solve the same problems.

Human, there are no cures for Alzheimer's. In fact, my uncle just passed away from it last year. The problem is that it eats away at your brain, essentially causing large holes. There are treatments, however they only slow down the process. They can't stop it. Eventually... the person forgets how to breathe, and they die.

You need to slow down, take a breath, and maybe take a CC class intro to psych.. also Social psych is good, but if you want more understanding of what you asked, the Abnormal Psychology, or Behavior Disorders it will have a name like that and is usually a 300 level class in a year setting. Usually 101 required.

1) The 2 big drugs currently marketed for Alz's cause kidney failure, which causes coma, then death within a week. Max benefit of drugs is approx approx 5 years better quality of life if disease mid stage and other health manageable. Gov't can't afford keep them alive longer than that. 2) Cancer will not be cured, patients will live longer with new treatment options, that is all., they will go to work, leave for chemo/radiation, go back to work. Pharms wll make unprecedented earnings ie oil now.

It is a serious issue and I believe we need more funding and inquiries related to the issue. I lost my grandmother last October to it and it was a long and painfull road. As much as it killed me, I don't believe it's one of our "major" issues facing the country right now. I blieve it's much like cancer, and that it will take a long time to find a cure-so don't get your hopes up on a President who says they will make it a priority and then hate him after a year because there's no cure. There is medication now that will help prevent it. My wife works in the pharmaceutical industry, so I read some of her trade journals. The solution certainly will not help those outside of the U.S. who cannot get access to these treatments, but it will reduce the incidences of Alzheimer's here.
Eventually, it will be available as all other drugs are (though I'm sure they will cost a lot).

I keep up with the medical journals on preventing Alzheimer's disease. If there is a medication that will prevent this plague, it's being kept under wraps - tightly. There are many things that can be done,both for the sufferer and to prevent the disease, but, as far as I know, there is no certain prevention, no certain cure.

Thanks Regraetz for posting this. Many of the postings on YouTube must be from young people who simply do not understand the issues or the consequences of having a bankrupt medicare system. The whole US healthcare system is going to flatline over this -- American's would be shocked to know what I have learned in the past year since our kids got this diagnosis. We have researchers who don't even share data with each other yet are working in the same areas and trying to solve the same problems.

Human, there are no cures for Alzheimer's. In fact, my uncle just passed away from it last year. The problem is that it eats away at your brain, essentially causing large holes. There are treatments, however they only slow down the process. They can't stop it. Eventually... the person forgets how to breathe, and they die.
Don't fool yourself. There is no cure for alzheimers.. just like there's no cure for cancer.

There are 500 Children worldwide with Niemann Pick Type C, the Childhood Alzheimer's. There are millions of people who are losing their minds to Alzheimer's -- we are trying to accelerate research into these horrible brain disorders. Treatments that can work for adults can work for kids -- brain inflammation is brain inflammation and dementia is dementia whether you are 4 years old or 50 years old.

Ya you see war is another thing that kills people.
But we can never stop because its human nature to disagree and be greedy (two main reasons war's happen, or thats my opinion)
And diseases happen naturally too.
I agree its unfortunate.
But if there were all of a sudden nothing. No cancer, no Alzheimers, no AIDS, the only population control would be war.
But on the other hand, everyone deserves a chance at life. So lets find a cure!

There is a likely cure for it but we shot it off the table. Stem cell research... We can kill babies in Afghanistan but we cant do stem cell research, wtf? Not that I dont feel compassion for them little alien looking baby things but still... This is the world we live in and unfortunately the only answer I can think of.

from my POV - one who doesn't know anybody who has/had/ died of IT - I personally don't think of IT as a bigger problem than the main topics we elect presidential candidates today. there are so many other diseases we could put in place of alheimers that are also a major concern of today. personaly i think of this problem like the problem we have with gas prices-the solution will come with time. you may disagree with me and i know some of you will, but i don't know of anybody having to do with it

I Support this 110% my grandmother just died becuase she had alzheimers so bad she couldnt eat or drink by her self so i believe we soul start thinking what to do before it happens radther then rushing when it becomes even bigger than what it already is God Bless the people with these disorders

It's not curable. It's just part of getting old. The irony is that many who would have had it, use to die younger and, so, obviously, never got it. The longer we live, the more this is going to be an issue.
We're pouring money into researching cancer, stroke, heart disease, high cholesterol, etc, but all we EVER get is drugs to help. Folks, there are no cures. Get used to it.
