hey! i've got a question. Don't they have to wear white riding trousers and jacketts and a white blouse? because we here in germany have to ! would be great if somebody would answer!
The very first gray horse was jumping around 3'6" or 3'9". The rest are around 3', 2'6" is much smaller than the height shown. We didn't do this show since we had just gotten our horse. But we do ride jumpers. Mostly too, a horse that does hunter and jumper is not good at both, they're good at one of the two styles. Meaning a hunter will not have the speed that a jumper does. So on and so forth. I come up against that ALL the time and its really annoying.
agreed. typically, a GOOD hunter won't have the speed and power that a jumper needs, and a jumper won't go calm/quiet and have a low, long stride to be a GOOD hunter.
goodbyebarbaro -- you can tell that it is a jumper class by the flags on the jump standards (there is a white flag and a red flag). There is also a lot more speed and some tack used on the horses that usually isn't allowed in hunter or eq classes. :)
oh wow u r sooo great u look great on ur horse how tall is he/she. hes really really cute though and u look fantastice onn him well i had one jumping lesson on my knew horse about a half a foot hehehe then a month later iu jumped him two feet in the events and three feet in the wam up u are great well some one told me my horse was to small to jump but hes tall
How can you tell the difference between Hunter classes, and Jumper classes? I know Hunter is when the horse is judged, and Jumper is getting around the course with in the time, with no faults, but how can you tell when Your watching it??
Well, it's really easy for me to tell them apart. Even in pictures! Normally hunters are a lot more relaxed and have really nice form over the jumps. Jumpers are more, I don't really know what other word to use, but hyper. Not all jumpers are hyper. They just know their job when they get in the ring. Hunters also must dress in show clothes. Hunt coat, breeches, tall field boots, etc. And jumpers get more freedom of what they wear. Also a lot of the time the tack is different in both disciplines.
Another way you can tell is by the course! Jumper courses tend be twisty, with brightly colored jumps and sometimes painted boxes, curvy poles, and funky standards. They often include lines of fences on an angle, triple combinations, and liverpools. Hunter courses tend to be decorated in natural colors (think brown, green, white) and decorated with flowers, evergreen branches and plain boxes and gates. The jumps in hunters are solider, to mimick natural jumps, whereas jumper jumps are airy.
this is an awsome vid, im starting english, i am used to western barrels/roping but i thought if i wanted to be a "great" rider that i should also learn english, and let me tell you, i had my FIRST lesson today, and to all the ppl who call them "prissy" they need to go and try just to do the posture right, it is sooo hard!! after i got inside of a 2hr lesson, i was so dehydrated (because its 98 degrees) that i fainted, it is hard, and ppl are just judging btw really great vid
i've grown up riding horses and my mom showed them when she was young so she road english so that's what i started out on and yeah, when ur like 8 trying to post in the correct rythem with the horse and sit up straight, shoulders back, chest out, chin up...yeah it hurt for a while but you'll get used to it, promise. i've been riding english for about 10 years now and it's like second nature to me.
but it is like sooo hard lol, it so funny tho cuz my horse caught right on, its me who my trainer always gets on to, my horse did it the first day nearly perfect, the only bad thing is that he is SCAED TO DEATH of jumps!! any suggestions? he either flat out refuses it ow walks right through/over it, i cant even get him to jump it from the ground, HELP!!
well...i've never had that much difficulty with horses going over jumps but you just have to start them off slow. start with the pole laying on the groud and have him on a line and walk over it with him, repeat and just start getting faster and faster. after he has mastered that ride him when he goes over the pole. when u start putting the pole on the jump dont put it too high and start with the poles crossed instead of stacked ontop of eachother. make him comfortable with it and he'l do it fine
Some horses can be put in both hunter and jumper depending on the breed, size and how in shape they are. My Thoroughbred is in both. We don't jump that high yet but my trainer is working at it.
No No, it is both a Hunter AND Jumper Show. At another ring there was HUNTER CLASSES going on, while JUMPER CLASSES were at this ring. :))) Clear things up?
hey, anyone go to the Blue Ribbon Summer Festival 2007 in waco?? and the gecko in the ch/ad/ jumper classic just had 2 rails shaped like an eyeball? (one hanging down, one standing up) wow that was bad...
Great Video!! Awesome job for all the riders in the video. They all had great positions! (I'm gealous) =) Keep up the good work. I really like the song!! =)
id love to be able to jump like that again im just starting to jumping again on my new 7yr old teds boy after not ridding for 3 years were getting there slowly gr8 vid xx
ya but alot of people they show in the jumper but do it hunter style cuz alot of the time there the same course.... my friend does that all the time... lol
hunters are great for style and everything.. but there's something about jumpers thats soo much fun.. lol i do both.. Btw your grey horse is gorgeous.. ive got a thing for big greys lol
hey! awsum video, i show hunter/jumper. my old horse looks exactly like tht one!! i was wondering wether i could use parts of this video to make a h/j music video. i put u in my credits!
neither one is better, they are equally fun. the difference between them is simply that in the jumpers how you look doesnt really matter, in hunters how you look is all that matters.
exactly...Sometimes at the hunter shows NOT ALL THE TIME the fellow showers aren't as friendly for some reason. no offense to you hunters, just saying my reason why i prefer jumpers. I love you guys
you are a great rider. i use to jump but i switched barns and started to get really in to hunter flat...well arabian classes. but every once and a while i really do miss being air born for like 2 seconds.
omg I went to OKC GO show for the first time this summer and I LOVED IT! my sister and I both did! Did you go 2 that one? And I want to say I have seen all of these horses there! but OMG awsome!!!! What did you show in??
Cool! No, I didn't go to that show this year because my horse isn't ready for it. But I'm getting a new horse in the spring of 2008 so hopefully I'll be able to do it in the upcomming years! I show in Long Stirrup but only because my horse is still VERY green. I'll be moving up VERY quickly with my new horse though! :D
All these horses are so pretty! This video is really good. I love that grey! I want it! Haha. The rider is CRAZY good! Well, they are all amazing lol. :D
What year was that? I went I think last year or the year before, I dont really remember but I love going to the GO shows and watching, theyre awesome!

Hi again; yes, they would include both disciplines, but again -- a hunter is not necessarily a jumper and a jumper is not necessarily a hunter, although some horses do both. It's kind of like the pinto-paint thing. Much confusion.
You can really tell the difference between eventers and huner/jumpers! Hunter/jumpers arch their back, and lean WAY too far forward on the horses neck. Eventers are all round and don't do the back arch thing and lean thing, well most don't. Loved the vid, great music!
This is a really good video, I think one of the riders name is Virginia Hames, I took a lesson with her when I first moved to Oklahoma. I used to live in Houston and I showed Texas Sporthorse A TON! But I love the geko jump! I tried to get my mom to buy it at the OKC show. HAHA
hey! i've got a question. Don't they have to wear white riding trousers and jacketts and a white blouse? because we here in germany have to ! would be great if somebody would answer!

You can really tell the difference between eventers and huner/jumpers! Hunter/jumpers arch their back, and lean WAY too far forward on the horses neck. Eventers are all round and don't do the back arch thing and lean thing, well most don't. Loved the vid, great music!

Im showing at Waco!!!
This is a really good video, I think one of the riders name is Virginia Hames, I took a lesson with her when I first moved to Oklahoma. I used to live in Houston and I showed Texas Sporthorse A TON! But I love the geko jump! I tried to get my mom to buy it at the OKC show. HAHA
