  • DO NOT GO HERE. Four of us went when it wasn't even busy and it took them 20 minutes to ask us for our order. When we did the food was shocking, honestly, I know it's cheep but the quality was appalling. Tasteless lukewarm food that had clearly been standing for hours.

  • @RobertNicholls in france, lunch time is respected. its part of their culture not to hurry food and to sit down for a while and enjoy. don't get mad if they dont get on it right away. it is disrespectful to be in a hurry while eating. im sorry you didnt like it though. france is awesome

  • @RaMoSs40 It's nothing to do with France being "awesome" or whatever, but wanting to place an order in under 20 minutes has nothing to do with French culture, or rushing, and everything to do with bad service (it wasn't even busy at the time). I've been to many restaurants throughout France, have French friends, and study French so I know this isn't a cultural thing. There were people there getting served almost straight away without asking. Also as I said, the food is poor.

  • Chartier is across the street from the lovely hotel where I have stayed in Paris over the past 30 years. I have eaten there countless times and seldom been disappointed. It's bustling with people all the time. The menu changes daily. This American highly recommends it!! Thanks for posting this video!!

  • @melinda1117 Hello, I am an American who is also planning on visiting France pretty soon. May I know the name of the hotel that you stayed at or at least where it's located? I want to know where I can stay. I've just been researching the internet for possibilities? Is the hotel economically convenient, while still being comfortable? Thanks.

  • @WRETCHEDLY1 Hi! The hotel where I stay is called the Hotel Corona-Opéra. It's located on a small street across from Chartier. It's like my home away from home. If you google it, you will find a website and I think there's a promotional video here on YouTube as well. The manager's name is Didier. Feel free to mention my name - they know me well. If you have other questions, feel free to contact me again. Have a great time in my favorite city in the world.

  • @melinda1117 Thank you very much! I truly appreciate your help.

  • en este restaurante estuve comiendo en 1980 y me fascinó. Por lo que veo sigue igual. yo , desgraciadamente , no he vuelto a ir.

  • My last name is chartier

  • I went to Chartier this summer, it was a wonderful experience. My French beau persuaded me to eat raw meat - steak tartare, I am now hooked! It's very busy, you're seated very close to your neighbours. Thankfully the people next to me were a charming older couple from Oxford, they loved it too.

  • That restaurant was fantastic BEFORE we were at our table ; I mean, it's very pretty, I love the old Paris style, and it's pretty cheap, but the table was so small that we were almost eating in the same plate, and people beside us (on both side) were literally eating in our ears ! Seriously, how can you enjoy a dinner in those condition, even if the food is great ? I'm someone very sociable, but it was too much and we left right after the appetizer... Too bad.

  • I'm sure the other diners were pleased to see you leave. Are you American ? Like to have everything your own way ? Then, stay in America. I was in Chartier three days ago and thoroughly recommend it to all but the most ignorant.

  • I'm French and I live in Paris (see my name, lol) ; I'm sure all the Americans will enjoy your message :-)

  • Well jerome you're French so you could have known that Chartier isn't the Fouquet's or Maxim's but a "Bouillon", a "Cantine Ouvrière" a popular restaurant for workers, not businessmen.

Still, it's your opinion but stop the hypocrisy please.

    Tu t'attendais à quoi sérieux?

  • are you kidding me! They sat is at a table with a couple of Asian tourists! We didn't even get our own table! Never again!

  • Not a place for xenophobes then?

One of the joys of eating at Chartier is that you meet complete strangers and chat with them.

Don't forget to write you own "addition" on the paper table cloths.

I've been going there for over forty years. No tourists then; but otherwise little has changed except there is no longer sawdust on the floors.

  • I'm reluctant to take advice from someone who lacks the insight to understand the context of a statement. The probably wasn't that they were Asian, it was that we were seated so close, I could braid their hair at dinner.

  • jean jeanie (2 days ago)

This fantastic restaurant was across the passage to our hotel, dont need to queue if your in between 6 and 7pm.

The food and wine was stunning and so was the service, cant wait till next year.

  • CHARTIER IS MY LAST NAME TOO NOO WAYYY!

im not kidding like it really is

  • this is aweosme Chartier is my last name lol

    yum yum yummmy

  • Really recommend it, fantastic place, simple menu, unbelievable atmosphere .if you go to Paris go there, its a treat.

  • Wow, I did not expect to see a Chinese/Asian waiter working at such a place so very "French." That's REALLY cool. Can you please tell me whether or not he spoke like a French native? I'd love to work in France on a working holiday visa or something... but I'm self-conscious about my French.

  • @pleasance, France is full of different people due to involvement in Africa and Indo-China. They are as French as French could be. The waiter's family could have been be from Vietnam.

  • come look at my video (April in Paris 2008)

I take the personal approach to cafe

    reviewing.

  • j'y vais dans 30 minutes pour dejeuner!

    ************

i'm going there for lunch in 30 minutes!

  • How was your lunch?

  • it was decent as usual. chartier is more about the experience than the actual food (although i do always enjoy the escargots).

  • Where is the location of this cafe. No location anywhere in the website

  • I'm not sure this in entirely accurate as I haven't been there myself (but will be in a couple of weeks!). My friend has been and he gave me the address:

    7 Rue Du Faubourg

    Montmartre 75009

  • Well done. Just back from Paris. You captured the spirit of Paris very well.
