  • This is AWESOME!!!!!!

  • superb !

    merci

    Les Loupiots

  • Alexander's the best!!!

I wonder what he does now. It seems like as if nothig is left of him after this. Does anyone know what happened to him?

  • Excellent! No bass part in this section of Jesu meine Freude. I would guess the tall boy "who doesn't sing" is a bass so he has nothing to sing here.

  • Beautifully sung!

  • Beautifully and emotionally sung, but with much great taste!

    Where from comes this choir?

  • Cool, die Stimmen und Lautstärken passen perfekt zusammen!

  • oh wow... bach is awesome!!! wonderful... wonderful.

  • i think is Tenor, Altos, Soprano1 and Soprano 2( i hear very little of Robin) ima listen to it again to spot his voice.

  • I love how the guys eyes behind the tenor get all large when he sings xD

  • wild and divine at the same time. lovely

  • where's alexander Lischke right now?? i haven't seen another vid of him

  • Audio is clipped. Too bad ...

  • This is Excellent!!!!!!

  • wonderfully done. but i wanna point something out, slightly irrelevant but its bothering me...there's an older boy behind alexander just awkwardly standing there and doesn't sing a peep. he looks down at his book but nothing...

  • Presumably he would have sung if he had any parts in this section. Since he isn't singing, I must conclude that he doesn't have any parts.

  • Why do you assume everyone with music in his hands is supposed to be performing?

This setting of the 5th stanza ("Gute Nacht, o Wesen") of the hymn "Jesu, meine Freude" is for 2 sopranos, alto and tenor. No bass part.

They could have performed this with just 4singers, but they assigned several voices to the alto part. The altos sing the hymn verse "Gute Nacht" to the tune of the hymn "Jesu, meine Freude".

The clueless probably think piece this a trio. It's actually a quartet.

  • This piece only has a single male voice, there´s no base, just tenors.

The older boy sings tenor, the choir sings alto, the two little boys sing soprano 1 and soprano 2.

  • Close, but I would say it has four male voices. Tenor, boy alto, treble 1 and treble 2.

After all, Bach wrote for men and boys. When females sing the soprano lines of his church music, they are singing male parts.

  • thanks for enlightening me there, I didn´t know that :)

I would really love to hear a version of this song all choir and all male...

  • @greencat895: The Tölz boys'choir follows the tradition of J.S. Bach. This part presumably was a solo part in 18th century. The Tölz' boys sing this with one tenor and two sopranos. It is only an excerpt of the motet 'Jesu, meine Freude', so the other boys are singing before and after this solo. Enjoy it, only the Tölzer boys are able to sing this in this way!

  • @greencat895 LOLLLLLL

  • Hey, isn't that boy who sings that "The Queen of the Night" video? Just beutiful!

  • absolutely incredible! 0:43 - 0:53 that kid on the left!!! whoa

  • Awesome. I've always liked the Tolzer Knabenchor ever since I heard their Bach cantata recordings from the 1970s.

  • wow! I can´t find the words! I sing in school´s chorus and I sing this song now and ..wow! Its great! how could the boy sing so high? I sing soprano1 too! Awesome!

  • The soprano 1 part goes up to g'' (tuned to A415, the pitch used in Leipzig when Bach worked there). The soprano 2 part goes up to f''. The parts cross frequently.

Boy sopranos have been singing "so high" in church choirs for centuries.

  • that last note almost always gives me shivers. in a good way.

I love this and all three soloists are very sensitive to the style of this music. it's awesome. I really do miss Alex L and Robin. Not that the current boys aren't good, these two just had style :D

  • magnifique!!!

  • Bach is proud of you.

  • I get some goosebumps from this music. Fantastic.

  • Interessante Aufführungspraxis!

  • I'm singing tha same song in my choir. Compared to this, my choir is just a bunch of amateurs

  • Are you Serious???!!!! These guys are so awesome, left me speechless!

    Great job!

  • This is So Great!

  • Omg the tenor is awesome.

  • @starbreez3 i know :3

  • Great song! Bach is simply awesome. Unfortunately, it's only the half of the piece... The beginning is missing.

  • This is Fantastic!!!!

  • Alexander Lischke - now there is a truly wonderful treble voice. Not weak and wimpy like a lot of trebles I hear, but a rich full sound and very beautiful. Excellent legato, great feeling for the music.

  • he did have a fantastic voice...strong and clear as a bell. :)

  • Great voices, love it. Is it possible to get a copy of the audio?

  • Tausend Dank, so etwas habe ich noch nicht gehört

  • Intresting! Very lovely. I am sooo glad I can do things on my account again!

  • Alexander has a wonderful voice! But all three guys have a divine voice!

  • One could only hope that JS Bach himself could have heard his beautiful music sung so well. Yes, the Tölzers are famous for the Drei Knaben roles in Zauberflöte, but I think they are also equally famous for their presentation of Baroque music. In this quest, they have been generous, and have spurred something of a contest with Thomaskirche, Windsbacher, Augsburger & Regensburger choirs, and that has all resulted in excellent recordings and even further research for "new" Baroque items!

  • Magnifique prestation!

  • Wrong title: It is "Gute Nacht, o Wesen" an excerpt of the moetet "Jesu, meine Freude" (BWV 227) and not BWV 501.

  • Thanks! I made the correction. Unfortuanatly the file I was working off of doesn't have the title so I was guessing. I guessed wrong.

  • great!!

  • Oh God, I envy to those luckies who can see this live... :-) Beautiful. Thank you.

  • prostoNN....you are so right...it would be so wonderful to be in the audience...

I was taught by a musician/composer who could not stay seated when enthralled by music..so at any concert he would be out of sight in the back of the hall.....

when I hear music such as is on this post...I imagine his spirit moving with the music...

  • beatiful...!!!

    toujours beatiful. magnific.
