  • nice tut but id rather not plug my self into an electrical socket lol

  • @michaell33cg

LOL, it's quite safe as it designed for that purpose ;-)

  • where did you buy your case at

  • @bbcy2

I bought the whole lot from a wholesaler that does not sell to the public. You can get them online, try scan.co.uk

  • Where did you get an antistatic band

  • @xSoloSoLdiier

It was either Maplin or CPC, can't remember which now!

  • How much did it costed you to buy those parts minus the OS? I'm planning to build one.

  • @jhamthehamster

    £1100 without the OS

  • @ultimatehandyman

Nice I bought a stock PC Medion £600

Upgraded everything cept the i5 because that was pretty much new at the time cost £600 for the stock added Giga mobo, ATI 6970 8gb of Crucial ram, HAF 932 Coolmaster, Corsair 800watt Pretty nice for bout £800

  • Hi , just want to know if the e5700 dual core need thermal grease or not , please respond

  • @koukou9111

They all need thermal paste, but on some models it is already applied to the heatsink.

  • @ultimatehandyman did the intel e5700 have thermal grease ?

  • @koukou9111

I don't know as I don't own one. The core I7 920 which I bought as a kit came with thermal compound pre-applied.

  • @ultimatehandyman Your accent is sick! haha Where you from? yorkshire?

  • @TheElitePow

    Darwen, Lancashire.

    Many people think Yorkshire LOL

  • @ultimatehandyman Hahah :D

  • Those wrist straps must have quite a high resistance, because earthing yourself to a plug's earth is dangerous...you should hook it onto the case to keep you and the case in balance

  • @themanhunt1234

I think they have 1 meg OHM resistance.

If you connect to the case, the case needs to be plugged into the socket (switched off) so you are still connected to the earth in the property, so the case is between the supply and you.

  • @ultimatehandyman

Yeah there is a lot of controversy over static. Some say it doesn't happen, some say you do it when the PSU plugged in and off, some say plugging in and on, some say just connect it to the case, some say just touch the PSU...in the end I just put my strap to the case with no cable attached.

  • @themanhunt1234

It's one of those things that is difficult to prove. I can't remember the last time I had a static shock but my sister gets several per day. Any kind of prevention is better than doing nothing IMHO

  • Building you're own is far cheaper + you gain the knowledge of building which makes you feel epic once you do build it :D

  • @GiveMeBass93 amen

  • Can someone tell me, should I build my own computer? because I do have a good understanding of computers and how their put together, also I have done it before, but is it really worth it?

  • @DarkAAProductions

It is often not much cheaper if you build your own PC, but you can choose which software you put on it. I almost bought a Dell PC, but they insisted on including Microsoft office [included in price] and McAfee security suite [included in price], neither of which I wanted on my PC. I looked at a few other manufacturers and they also came with preinstalled software that I did not want, so I ended up building my own ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman thnx man

  • @DarkAAProductions

    You are welcome ;-)

  • Very good video quality, always good instructions, you actually do one of the better tutorials on here. thanks. oh and nice set up =)

  • @kei0kusanagi

Thanks very much, this was one of the first HD videos that I made.

Thanks again for the comment ;-)

  • i laughed when i heard "today, were gonna be building a computer"!!!

  • with that amount of ram, and that graphics card, processor and everything else, a 700w power supply is kinda letting everything down a bit. try going for a 950w and the computer will be a hell of a lot better

  • @PissinAnts

It's been working perfectly for 18 months ;-)

  • you dont have to pull all of the case side. you will have to pull one so you can have an access to the whole computer and it is much easyer and safe too so when your going tho enter the grafics card it will be easy to put when the other side of the case is not moved... thats what i am gussing soo.. i dont know.. because i have building one (i7-990x) at my house and i didnt have to move the side that i put the mainboard on it and it works.. also my case is a medume-large case and i like it ..

  • hey, what site did you order the parts from? i used compusa. not sure if they have a UK site or not lol

  • @cancerusnugget

I got most of the parts from a supplier that does not sell direct to the public. I just told them what processor and amount of ram I wanted and they supplied all the components.

  • @ultimatehandyman oooh, ok. well thank you! =) the tutorials are great man.

  • @cancerusnugget

    Thanks for the comments ;-)

  • how did you get a haf with a window it that only in Europe because in the us they only have mesh no window

  • @airsoftisawsome

It's just what came from the supplier.

It's probably warmer in the US so the mesh will help keep it cooler.

In the UK we use our computers to keep us warm, because of the horrid weather lol

  • @ultimatehandyman I seem to be the only one in the UK who loves the weather, i cant wait until summer is gone,, BRING ON THE COLD

  • @TheWoWRevelation

I'm in Cyprus at the moment and it is 80+ degrees( F) each day, even I am looking forwards to some cool weather lol

  • thanks for getting back to me and I would like to talk more about video editing are you in the states?

  • @farstarfilms

No problem, I am in the UK.

Feel free to message me ;-)

  • ultimatehandyman did you save money on building it yourself? what typ of PC was it??

  • @farstarfilms

I could not buy a machine with this specification without getting a DELL machine with loads of preinstalled software that was no good for me. They also charged you for the software as you could not remove it from your order! I use the PC for video editing mainly!

  • @TheMrDisser

No, not really- just this one!

  • @ultimatehandyman you should have used a 5870 or something with this 6core cpu or like 2 5770 or something

  • @TheMrDisser

It was about £1200 in December 2010

  • can i get the exact parts you use including the cpu, motherboard, ram, graficscard, hdd, optical, case, psu, ect. and for the psu, i live in amirica so is there an amirican version so i can plug it in?

  • @killyrm34300

You should be able to get the same parts anywhere in the world, the only difference will be the PSU or sometimes just the lead to the PSU. I think that an American lead came with the PSU as well as the three pin British one. Some PSU's have a selector switch to choose either 230v or 110v

  • @ultimatehandyman thanks so can i get the names of the parts you used

  • @killyrm34300 Coolermaster HAF 922 case GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R Motherboard Intel core I7 920 processor Reaper OCZ HPC DDR3 Ram Stealth extreme PSU MSI 1gb Graphics card 2* 1TB western digital hard drives Windows 7 DVD burner I think that is everything!
  • @ultimatehandyman thanks

  • @killyrm34300

    No problem ;-)

  • Hello mate, this video is excellent, really appreciate you taking the time to share it with us. I have to build an i-7 with solid state HDD next week for a mates tv production company and I was wondering if you had any recomendations for places to get the mo-bo/processor? Not sure where will be the cheapest and the most customer friendly? Thanks for any help you can send my way!

  • @artorwar

    Thanks for the comment.

You could try advancetec or scan both are dot co dot uk

Good luck with the build ;-)

  • I like very much the video series. They are accurate and give emphasis to the details. Of course a user can face other setup issues such as BIOS specific settings at the end of any construction, but troubleshooting isn't the purpose of the videos. So, for a PC building the videos are very ok. So...Bravo. :-)

  • @hrbear

Thanks very much for the comments ;-)

  • It's 922, not 222.

  • @wwyk1993

Yes we know. If you read the previous comments you will see that ;-)

  • Where can I get one of those antistatic wristbands? I'm in the UK btw

  • @mdusiek

Maplin, or CPC sell them online

  • how much did all this cost?

  • @VWLPT

    About £1200 twelve months ago.

  • @ultimatehandyman

OUCH! So how much would this cost now?

  • @VWLPT

Probably a bit less as most computer equipment is cheaper year on year.

  • @ultimatehandyman

Cool. I don't mean to flood you with lots of questions lol, but I'm looking to build a PC that's good for SD/HD video capture (480p/720p), as well as video editing. Have you got any idea how much I'll be looking at for something like that? I wont be playing top end games, at least not at first, so video capture and software is pretty much my only priority for the machine. Got any reccomendations?

  • @VWLPT

No problem. I built this computer for editing HD movies and it is awesome, I never play any games. If I were you I'd check the minimum recommended spec for the software that you will be using to edit the video and then try and get a computer slightly better than what they recommend. I almost bought a dell, but it came with load of software that I did not want, but still had to pay for. I recommend building your own, then it only has the software on it that you need!

  • about the anti-static rist band u do know u can simply touch a metal object like a door handle and yes it is true ur cloth can still build static so what ever i never used ani of that and i lost count of the pcs i build in the last couple of years and never really happaned...

  • @cacete115

I have a friend that crosses the train track in front of moving trains, he has done it 999 times. One day his luck will run out and he'll be killed by the train, the same logic can be applied to wearing an anti-static wrist band ;-)

  • say if you dont have an anit-static rist band could you like do it outside where there's no carpet or something?

  • @gargar112

The static could be cause by the clothes that you are wearing.

If you are going to do it outside naked let me know and I'll come and film it for youtube lol

Seriously though for a couple of quid/bucks it is well worth getting one just to be on the safe side.

  • @ultimatehandyman yea guess your right just going to get a pair now... thumbs up for your vids :)

  • @gargar112

    Thanks very much ;-)

  • where did you get a cooler master HAF 222? All I can find is HAF 922

  • @cinek2

It is a 922, not a 222. My eyes aren't what they used to be lol

  • @ultimatehandyman thanks I'm planning on getting the same case

  • @cinek2

    You are welcome.

It's a great case by the way!

  • will this set up be any good? All ill use it for is Css TF2 and L4D and mabye some of the new recent games coming out processor- phenom II x4 955 - £107 motherboard- gigabyte 770tu-d3 - £55 memory- corsair xms3 - £65 hard drive- sam f3 500gb - £33 graphics- 8800gtx (ebay) - £50 case- antec 300 (+1x120mm fan) - £55 power- cm silent pro 600 - £70 cooler- arctic freezer 7 - £16 = £451
  • you should get a sound card

  • @Armaangandevia1

I don't really need on mate, I only have the volume on low for editing videos etc.

  • @ultimatehandyman ya its relly meant for gamers i love your vids

  • @Armaangandevia1

    Thank you!

  • When you made this video, how much did all of the components cost?

  • @antmanmax1

I think it was about £1200 GBP

  • Come on England !

  • well dats all i need good video. its abit short. i may sound lazy but have you a part 2 link handy rather me searching for it?

your well ultimate handyman ;) cant get computers i want so il customise myself one. so il drop a comment 2 ya

  • @bencrosbie

The link to part two is at the end of the first video, you just click on the link in the video. I can't post a link in the comment section as they do not work.

  • @ultimatehandyman well ok thats grand just ive got internet troubles. thanks anyway

  • You should never connect the strap to the wall outlet!!! and makes no use in preventing ESD damage.

  • @SmerFarmor

    Why not?

    Please explain your comments!

  • @SmerFarmor Wtf ?? Its grounded u know? Every wall outlet is grounded O_o

  • @SmerFarmor 99.9% it won't make any difference. But I wouldn't risk £1200 on that 0.1%. You can always touch the case if you have a metal one... either way better safe then sorry

  • Nice accent! :D

  • @Neso906 its called a british accent

  • hows the cm 922 with the dust:-s

  • @TheMRamstaff

It sucks a hell of a lot of dust up, but it is caught by the the filter on the front.

I opened the case last week and it is clean inside.

I now vacuum the vents every couple of weeks to keep them clear!

  • Love the accent!

  • Thanks a bunch mate i am gonna build my first PC in 1 month with the same case :) and same cpu :)

  • @raheemisbad

    You are welcome!

    Good luck with the build.

  • great video man! I'm going to start my first build soon, this will be very helpful!

  • @criticnic

    Thanks for the comment!

Good luck with your build ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman just lettin ya know I finally finished mine! your vid was definitely a lot of help, thanks again!

  • @criticnic

    Glad it helped.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • @ultimatehandyman that wrist band is not necesary just dont touch the connectors and touch every once in a while the metal of the case:D

  • @TheMRamstaff

Not much point in touching the metal of the case if that is not earthed correctly!

For the sake of £2 you are eliminating the risk of static discharge.

  • @ultimatehandyman

apparently making a computer is as easy as lego if you know what your doing, is that true?

  • @superstrok99

    Yes, it is not difficult.

The difficult part is getting compatible parts, so I normally leave that to the experts in the shop!

  • When will you ever fill up a 1tb hdd. "-.- waste of money...

  • @DeapSwift

Exactly, the whole point of building a computer is to build one that will last you for years before you even need to think about upgrading.

As for filling a 1TB hard drive- it is fairly easy if you edit high definition videos. I filled my 500gb hard drive on my last computer in a few months with HD video footage.

  • can i play everything on high setting >Battlefield bad company 2? resolution?fps?thanks!

  • how much did you spend?

  • @kyleham567

Can't remember exactly, but it was just over £1000 GBP

  • What shop did you buy all the components from

    Cheers

  • @PerfectByDesign

I got them all from advancetec co uk

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Hey, I'm planning on buying - AMD Phenom X4 Black edition Gigabyte GA-M720-US3 650w Titan 12CM Neon Power Supply Seagate 500GB Barracuda Microsoft Windows 7 Kingston Technology 2GB DDR2 RAM HD5770 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card For my 16th birthday, but I'm wondering will the motherboard fit in my current non- cooled case without having to buy an upgrade? Also, will all the components run together? I'm kinda new to building computers and don't want to mess it up when I buy. -Thanks
  • @KniferAssassin

I have no idea if all those parts are compatible. I bought all of mine from the same shop to ensure that they were all compatible.

  • Hey where did you buy all your parts from?

  • @ArkellBFx

I bought them from a trade supplier. I had a good look around on the internet first, but there was no single website that could offer a good deal on all the components!

  • @ultimatehandyman Thanks I'm currently trying to find good deals to make my computer.

  • @ArkellBFx

Good luck with it. If you have a local computer shop I would get a price there for everything as they might give you a discount if you buy the lot in one place. Thanks for the comments!

  • @ultimatehandyman Will have a look around thanks again :)

  • @ArkellBFx Y SUGGEST GOING AMD X6 BETTER THAN A I7930 BUT AT A LOWER SYSTEM PRICE:d

  • @ultimatehandyman it sounds cool (im 14 years old :D ) but my onkel can make a com. there is like yours :D but it would be much more i think 1500 $ :(

  • @Djcrazy32

That is close to the price I paid. My price was in GBP £

If you convert £1000 to USD it works out at about $1500

  • @ultimatehandyman but is it a /GAMER pc? :D

  • @Djcrazy32

I use it mainly for editing video. If you wanted a good gamer pc you could double up on the graphics card and crossfire them.

  • are you serius about 1000 $?? :D

  • @Djcrazy32

Yes it was £1000 and I think that I had to pay VAT on top of that, which is 17.5%

Computers and computer parts are expensive in the UK.

  • is that a window on the side panel? My friend purchased the same case and it has venting on the side instead.

  • @alex14469

Yes it has a window on the side panel. I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

  • where are you from?

mind my stereotypical ears, but im guessing scotland?

  • @SandvichGod

    I'm from Darwen,Lancashire, England.

  • Also, do you buy your gear from a single vendor? It seems like there's nothing quite like newegg over here in Europe as far as I can tell. If I want to gather all the hardware I would need for my dream rig, I'm going to have to get them from multiple stores. Either that or wait for them to order the missing parts specifically themselves :(

  • @slojam81

Yes I got them all from the same place, but I could of bought all the components cheaper if I had shopped around.

    Thanks for the comments!

  • Would rubber gloves (surgical-type ones for instance) keep static going from your hands onto the components? Rubber is a great electricity insulator after all isn't it?

Static would be a non-issue and so would greasy fingerprints, voilà!

  • @slojam81

I guess so, just make sure they are not the powder coated ones.

  • you sound like the tf2 demo man

  • you have a cool voice :)

  • @ aspiregemstone

Thanks, most people find my voice irritating lol

  • Great demo. Can you recommend good and cheap site to buy this parts ?

  • Warhawk...

You need an i7 compatable Mother Board. Intel changed the socket type for the new 'i' range. If you are running a duo core, you probably have a socket 775. The i7 requires a socket 1366. A good choice for this would be the MSI X58M which costs around £124.

  • Thanks, you are welcome!

To be honest this is the first case where I have not had to use screws to secure the drives into the case. It is a really useful design feature and they are all held in position securely. A desktop will not normally be moved much though once it is in position that is it!

  • I have a dumb question, can I remove my due core processor for my existing motherboard and replace it with the i7 core processor chip? will it fit or do I need a specific motherboard in order to be able to do that. i have an intel socket 775 currently with windows xp 32 bit

  • @ warhawk

I'm no computer expert, but I'm pretty sure that you will need a new mother board.

  • i7 processors are only supported at this point by the motherboard socket 1366.

There is also a chance u have to upgrade your RAM due to the 1366 socket not supporting allot of Ram classifications.

    DDR3 (1333-2136)

  • how much does all the parts run altogther?

  • @ warhawk

It was about £1000 for all the parts (1,569.30 USD). It has been well worth the money as I need the speed when editing HD video.

  • I personally need the speed mostly to run 5 adobe programs at the same time I do a lil video and audio editing nothing crazy though. those antic static shock bands can be bought where?

  • Most computer shops sell the anti-static wrist bands or ebay has plenty of them.

  • hey man I also build computers and you have made the right choose by my thought, and a great time to do it because no decent computer build tutorial has been put up in over 5 months i think? anyway defo 5 stars and subscribe nice one m8 :)

  • @ dombguitar

Thanks for the comment! I'd be a lot happier if I could upload quicker then all 5 videos uploaded at the same time lol

  • thanks man, this is really useful!!

  • @ zombiekid16

I set all 5 videos to upload over night, but only the first one uploaded. I'm trying again now. When they all upload I will add annotations and a link to the next video.
