Lang Lang is an amazing teacher. Anna picks up on the phrasing with ease. At first it may seem as if she may be just imitating the master, but at second glance, the phrases have been born within her through Lang Lang's lucid instruction. Bravo to both.
Quite obviously, you don't understand "talent" as you call it. He's trying to get her to "sing" more and think about character within the work. That's not "unuseful", but rather, very much so. For as much as I can't stand him as a pianist, he does a very good job with her here.
The beginning of this video...the three notes... and bringing out the third note in the melody...This has been stuck in my head all day...I think I will learn this piece and use Lang Langs teachings on this video :-)
When I watch these videos of your daughter, any teacher would be lucky to work with her. She is wonderful! Such a sponge! She truly takes in EVERYTHING that is said to her and produces wonderful sound for such tiny hands! Bless her =)
A great illustration of how music should be studied: sometimes measure by measure if not note by note. Espicialy Mozart's music where each intention sparkles like lightnings of diamonds. Anna is so concentrated and I think she has learned many important things. I certainly would like to see and hear the rest....
Thank you! This helps show the artistic "process" and thinking from a genius like Lang Lang. There's 3 more segments, I'll get them uploaded in the next few days. He talks a lot about character and breaths. Things that really help Anna's music and should help other people too.
This video is an absolutely gem. The best part is that he shows both the wrong and the right way of playing a phrase. And Anna, you are a fast laerner.
Thank you! I think this will be of wide general interest, not as a "finished product" but so people who are interested in the process can get some idea how Lang Lang thinks.
Oh please do post the rest of it, it is fascinating! Anna is so bright and talented she is absorbing all the information from LL like a sponge, incredible!
Hi Anna! You did great at your lesson with Lang Lang. It's definitely the best lesson I've ever had the pleasure to see. He really showed you so much and taught you how to really play it instead of just talking at you in general terms. I'm looking forward to the next part!
The girl doesn't seam too happy to take lessons from Lang Lang I would kill to have a lesson from him

In a nutshell, I think Anna needs to do more, and Lang Lang needs to do less.

the moves he's trying to teach her must be inside the pianist, that's part of the talent..actually are unuseful if taught..

My favorite part is when he grabs her hand at about 47 seconds. I don't know why. Probably because I'm always grabbing kids hands.
MaryRuth72 3 years ago
Yes, he was very hands on. The challenge will be to apply his comments to other things she's working on and working on in the future.
