Well maybe it's just the Blacks that I hang around. In some of our conversations we talk about white racism and things that we don't like in the black community. I never hear anyone just blaming white people. I hear more black people complaining about another black person more than they do white people.

I have seen bigots on both sides and I have seen good hearted folks on both sides. Maybe there is something good that will come of Obama's election. South Africa was segregated until 1994
My family originated in ireland , but if I was called Irish American on a regular basis I would feel like it was in some way only serving to segregate...even if only in thought. Being American is good enough (and thats just me). Nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, but to me Americans are Americans no matter their bloodline. As a country founded on immigration, if everyone wanted their heritage stated with nationality. It would get confusing.

But because Obama is now president, that won't automatically change that equally qualified blacks are 70% less likely to be hired for a job competing against an equally qualified white. That won't change the economic repercussions of white flight or gentrification. For the most part I think your right. But people act as communities just as much as individuals. Because society deters the black community from economic progress with underlying hidden discrimination, the black community thereby does not contain full responsibility. This does not mean that they are not responsible for their actions. Cycle of poverty and lack of education is as addicting as crack cocaine (crack was introduced into ghettos in the 70s). I don't think hip hop is helping either.

AA who oppose the current administration are true heroes. There are many more qualified AA deserving of the job. Dr. King deserved the job. An AA from slavery heritage deserves the job. I have listened to Rev. Manning for along time. Some white folks died from opposing slavery. Many white folks marched with Dr. King.

I am not an African American. I am a Black man who is an American. I have never been to Africa. It is a Continent, not a Country. There are no citizenship papers of any kind issued for being a citizen of a Continent.

African American is an American ethnic group just like Irish American. Being African American means that you have mixed ancestory but because of the unique history of the people. Being born in africa is not what makes u AA it is about your ethnic group. Whites in Africa are do not have yourba or kru ancestory but guest what u do so you are an AA.

The USA are not a post racial society yet and we all know that. Obama being the president do not change it overnight. Can you imagine how the other races would turn out if they had to deal with the same oppression and discrimination, acting in a society that wants to see them fail. Young white boys are shooting up schools and churches and now everybody wants to become psychological to figure out why. Whereas if a young black male joins a gang it is just to be expected and overlooked. Why dont we try to examine that? That's just an example of what I meant by "analyzing". You talk about choices and I agree with that. People are responsible for their own choices. However, I think you need to think deeper about why people make bad choices. For every action, there is a reaction. Look past the symptom and find the cause.

If Obama really understood the problems in the Black community and tried to stop them then he wouldn't be in office.
