I agree this version of the song is different it's not bad... the end of the half of this song starting at 2:55 is amazing. Its fits the songs original feel. Luther's and Cheryl's version of this song is by far best..its very romantic,strong and sexy. Its better than Marvins and Tammi's original.

This version takes its tempo and a lot of its overall feel from the original with a few modern touches. The Lynn/Vandross cover is a lot slower.

Like most , I also love A K but hate this version. The main problem is the arrangment which all but destroys the melody, amking the song almost unreognizable. I hate it when singers do that just to sound original.  Having said that I do think that Luther Van Dross's version comes a very close second to Marvin's orginal. He was smart enought to change the arrangement just a tad, and of course he had that incredible voice.

This is such Jiffy-Pop songmaking. Credit where due, though, to that brother's voice ... whew! Shut up Alicia, because you are sharp in almost all of your ornaments (like most modern half-talents).
