  • This video is damn near as priceless as the fight itself. A snapshot of boxing in 1985.

  • Klassic fight from 2 great fighters who didn't shy away from contact but met it head on for better or worse.

  • Irony: Hearns says that he would knockout Hagler in 3 rounds. But then, hearns was knocked out in 3 rounds

  • dumbest thing ive ever heard hagler maybe the most under rated middle weight i wish hearns won but hagler is a beast

  • Hagler's the best middleweight of ALL time apart from one.......Sugar Ray Robinson. If they lived in the same era tho - my money is on Hagler.WTF you on about anyway calling him a slap head? go shag yer poodle

  • hagler overrated naw buddy other way around ppl love to hate hagler is man is a warrior

  • @ricflarefucknsucks shut it gimp boy.

  • Hearns was never gonna spark Hagler! he beat up Tony Sibson who was as strong as a bull! so Tommy didn"t have the strength to hold off Marvin!

  • i like how hearns didn't run away the whole fight like sugar ray leonard

  • agreed!!

  • Man, Hagler was one of the best, great boxer. 80's boxing was the shiz.

  • Hearns got a nice juicy curl!

  • lol

  • soul glow....in affect!!

  • Ironic in Hearns making that 3-round prediction. He ended up being the greatest alright: the greatest contender EVER TO LOSE TO HAGLER, LOL!!! Joking aside, The Hitman will always be No. 1 in my book. At least he wasn't a runner nor a ducker. He took the fight to you if you weren't gonna do it...

    >;-)

  • Hearns broke his right hand in round one, that doomed him.

  • I grew up on greatness: staying up late into the night and watching the fights or seeing them in the morning on video with the whole family watching.

I miss the great fights the great atmosphere and most importantly the great boxers!

I cannot believe how poor modern boxing is. So few really good boxers and even less competition in the divisions.

I miss the great matches. And this one was THE BEST! We'll never see the likes of this again. ever.

  • i think alot of the 90's fighters. hopkins, toney, jones, jackson, mclellan etc wouldve been able to compete in any era. some of em are still around since the younger generation is yet to take over. whats really hurting modern boxing isnt lack of talent though (except the HW division).

"there were to champions in the same weight division, and one of us had to be eliminated" - Hearns after his 81 fight with leonard. nobody thinks like that no more. there can be 5 champion n nobody gives a damn.

  • @monomon909

You're absolutely right and I used to watch all those fights back in the day. Nowadays, it's hard to find one worth watching. They don't compare.

    [Glen G. from Compton.]

  • Pay-Per-View wasn't widely available in the mid-80s, so the only way to see big events like these was on closed-circuit TV in theaters or arenas.

  • thanks for posting...I had this on video at 1 time, and somehow, somewhere lost it...Thank you....

  • This was one of the greatest eras in boxing. The fights we have today don't even touch this fight. I grew up in the 80's and these fight today really fail us as boxing fans. It's been a long time since I've seen a fight like this one!!!

  • I remember this back in the day, there was no 18" dish, they were 8', and you had to have a descrambler to watch these fights, I watched it w/out the descrambler, all I remember was someone was down but didn't know who, it was stil great sittin there guessing.

  • CeaseMedia, This was not on public TV. I got this video months later. I remember here in California they had something called SelectTV. I could watch a scrambled mode on UHF channel 15-25 around there, since the channel would broadcast on UHF, and then the Select TV box subscribers had would unscramble the channel. I could barely see the fight happening in scrambled mode- I never ordered the fights at home since I did not have Select TV, but I listened on the radio to between round reports.

  • @mag6333 This was back when PPV was special and not a common thing. I miss the 80s Boxing was great then. It still is, but the 80s was a magical era for the sport. thanks for posting.

  • @bvd1022 It was seen on PPV, but only in the larger markets like New York and Los Angeles. The rest of the country had to view it on closed-circuit TV at arenas or theaters, which was the norm until PPV became widely available.

  • @johnnyafairbanksak True I was in NY at the time. They still do closed circuit on occasion. I cover Boxing so I am very familiar with PPV. I stand by what I said about PPV being more special then as compared to now. As a fan I wish we could go back to the 80s as a writer I hope that if they finally sign Pacquiao-Mayweather that the "Big Event" feel will be there and that the fight will live up to it.

  • they didnt have ppv back then this was on public tv

  • These two were already bulletproof in boxing history before they even met, but after the war - they became immortalized.

Two of the best ever, hands down.

  • What is the beginning music called?

I love Al Michaels and Curt Gowdy, is great

also it's nice that this had the best round in the public eye of boxing!

  • Real nice!...Thank you!

  • Shit! Now i'm pumped! Time to go put this fight on!

  • Hagler is the best!! his chin, stamina, heart!!!

  • Ray was the superstar of the 80s point blank everybody mad ethere career best pay days from fighting him. the most famous fightrs of the 80s where leonard vs those guys also Duran was at his best in the 70s and was the fighter of that decade by ring magazine ray won fighter of the decade (80s) by ring magazine.

  • I have 3 words for you Sugar Ray Leonard!

  • Nah man, i actually think it was a draw. Duran was probably as good as Sugar ray, but the most exicting fighter was Hearns.

  • tusco i agree with you this was a great fight.. but i disagree with u about your statement about boxing of today.. there are plenty of great fights that take place in today's boxing scene.. you must not watch boxing

  • Wow! I remember this! Me and some buddies saw this at the old Chicago Stadium on closed circuit tv. The place was nuts when the fight started and it was so loud that you couldn't even hear the person next to you! Great Fight!

  • For my 'money', Marvelous Marvin STILL IS the greatest fighter I ever saw!

  • Hagler said: "I'm gonna come out smokin'."

He must have been sad that Joe Frazier had that nickname so he settled for "Marvy."

  • I remember seeing that fight with my father...I was only 13.

Those were the real fights of boxing unlike today.

  • Wow, Curt Gowdy was the host.

  • Yes!, that's cool. I still remember growing up with him and Tony Kubek and Saturday NBC Baseball.

  • My favourite pre fight build up the music just gets you in the mood for a classic.

  • ppv was going then 1987 robbing bastards

  • Awesome!times3.. This is one of the greatest wars ever. Rates up there with Gatti-Ward, Barrera-Morales, Castillo-Corrales, Dempsey-Firpo.

  • Al Michaels is the announcer at the beginning. I think he does football on ABC.

  • Who is speaking? That announcer sounds famaliar, but I can't think of his name?

  • I love it! boxing will never be the same, these are the kind of fights you love to watch...

  • This is one of the greatest fights in boxing history bar none. Two great champions in a match appropriate for a bar or a parking lot. Just beatin' each other like the other one stole something.

  • greatest fight ever , no dought , what a battle

  • Great match, great days for boxing.

This is a goosebump inducing moment in time!

  • great to watch !!! great fight !!

  • That hagler guy was a fucking monster.

  • BEST FIGTH EVER

  • fantastic

how good is you tube?i luuuuv you tube
