  • @newnoldschoolgaming You should head over to the HomeGroup thread on the Microsoft Answers forums:

    social.answers.microsoft. com/Forums/en/w7network/thread/4acc1b31-cbac-45e1-83cc-dd38e78667c1

  • @newnoldschoolgaming This drove me crazy too...what they fail to tell you is that both or all computers need different names. I would get create home group on each pc...never join. When most people set up a pc/laptop they don't name them individually. I changed my laptop name to acer and it picked up the network straight away...took me ages to figure this out.

  • A harder bit is setting up the network to start with. I've tried it, but haven't been able to work it out.

  • @johnshenton999 Where are you having issues?

  • I have Windows 7 but my two sisters have Windows Vista is there a way we can be on the same home group using this feature on Windows 7?

  • @masterbrice You wont be able to use these HomeGroup specific features, but you can still network and share files. Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions. Thanks!

  • @iKhan209 That's usually caused by trying to make changes to an account without having admin access. You should head over to the Microsoft Answers forum where they'll be able to help you get some solutions:

    answers.microsoft. com

  • what happens when you get the message 'homegroup encountered a error' and no explanation as to why, its not that simple is it microsoft? how about you sort your software out

  • is there a way to share a printer connected to a vista pc with a laptop running windows 7? i have been having dificulty setting this up. any help is appreciated

  • Thanks! I love homegroup!

  • what if you don't have win 7 on all your home computers....how do you get them into homegroup?

  • What other operating systems are you working with?

  • I have 3 Vista Machines and one is XP

  • Sorry, but the HomeGroup features are limited to Windows 7 and you need at least two Windows 7 computers to create a HomeGroup. However, you can still setup a classic network and share files.

  • I found a work around to make it work but that was the reason I asked

  • It would be awesome if it was actually that simple. Unfortunately it isnt. I can see the other pc on the network map, but I can't share anything with it and I cannot connect to either pc's homegroup. No non-windows firewalls, share permissions set, it just sucks.

  • thats odd cause i have two new windows 7 pcs that work so easily. i can even stream to mine and my brothers ps3's.

  • Love Home Group. Awsome!!!

  • it is wayyy.. more harder to set up a home network. i try to set one up but it doesent work.

  • how is it harder to set up a network when there is nothing to set up, its just...done.

  • i got three laptops in the house. i see no message, saying there is more than one laptop in your house.

  • Hey wait a second. This was posted on Jan 21... there's no "evaluation version" watermark on their screens. Are these guys running pirated Win7s???

  • no they are using the beta version

  • Ok, but it seems I recall the betas I used also had a version and build watermark... but either way I was primarily trying to make a joke. :)

  • i think they're from microsoft, so they have access to those "pre-registered" copies.

  • This just proves that windows is for stupid people. We are all stuck using it because of most business standards. I hate microsoft, but can't get away from it.

  • Rip OFF of Mac!!! Why don't you come up with your own ideas?!

  • the mac stole the dock bar from the quicklaunch taskbar back in 1998.

  • They all do it :( I love consumerism :D

  • New microsoft tablet!

    Must see iphone killer!

    /watch?v=ho8EaTPHuKo

  • Wow, that's great. That's really good. It's a touch screen. The technology is only a few decennia old... But now we added drivers for it in Windows 7, we call it "Windows Touch"!

No it's not the same as a mouse-driver. No it's not just a touch screen. It's Windows Touch, people! Hurray!

  • Finaly windows will rule!

  • Yeah, great, but then explain me why the hell i can't access windows 7 network from my xp laptop.

  • I saw the guy on the right in a Best Buy store in Seattle, which is very close to Redmond.

  • do you mean the best buy in bellevue?

  • Yes.

  • im so looking forward for this, OS, my vista is fast but win.7 is faster

  • Why have they got "I'm a PC" stickers covering their Dell logos?

  • Because no company is allowed to show another companies labels.

  • My only concern is that how many times did they have to shoot that ad ? I believe that they had to re-do it several times just to get the networking feature to work properly :-) or its much easier with special effects :-) mind you that it was probably was edited with Final Cut :-) Poor microsoft , it thinks that it can beat Macs with their silly features that all of us mac users got use to ages ago!!!

  • right on!

  • share music?

    someone sue these fools

  • It's sad that currently the best Microsoft has to offer is an 8 year old operating system.

I'm a PC and I'm switching to Mac this year, with regret I might add. I've been a PC all of my life but I am at the end of my tether

  • That dude looks like a mouse

  • Windows 7 should have sum windows bob stuff.

  • all these videos are retarded.

  • the stylke is the same as vista just like they didnt change the style from 98 to 2000

  • windows sucks. they get viruses and crash. get an imac from apple they never crash can't get viruses because hackers can't get the code. also if ur a windows lover get a mac and put windows on it!! better than any thing ever!!

  • I must say that I do find these comments quite amusing. @sspoke... Have you used the first official release of Windows 7? You say it's Vista but worse, but what proof do you have? Think of it like this. Vista is to Millennium as Windows 7 is to XP. I wouldn't quite make any judgments on the matter until you try it out.

@Gokusupersayin7... Did you not get the memo about Apple telling people to install Anti-Virus on their Macs because there have been viruses released?

  • macs DO crash

  • Yeah, my bros have macs and so does my mum, they crash quite a lot, i do love how its so simple though, i dont know why anyone could be sad enough to lie about a OS, lol

  • Not if you use them right. I've had a mac for a year and 1/2 its seriously hasn't crashed once

  • Heres the thing. Macs are better for creating things like music and pictures. PCs are more for the people with the basic needs. Macs are also for people who have a lot of money laying around. I can build a twice as fast PC for half as much. O and one thing about windows 7 it is the same as Vista just better graphics and more confusing.

  • lol i'm a pc!!!...really whats next windows 8?

  • i want a computer that works..i dont need this "fantastic features".

  • it works... maybe you dont know how to use a pc.. pff

  • I am so excited! I can't wait to get it!

  • Macs are where it is. You couldn't make me use a garbage PC if it was free.

  • Said the member of the mac minority.

  • I agree

I use a macbook and it will eat up a PC with like twice the specs.

  • hey about the mac and pc. ur right i us mac all the time

  • LOL those are Dell XPS studios! So Sexy!

  • can you connect your 360 to windows 7 wirelesly?

  • Windows 7 is still under development, but should work currently with Home Group and eventually with the official Windows 7 release.

  • It talks! :P

  • better than when Vista talked to us- "Open the pod bay door HAL" UAC:"I'm sorry Dave but I cannot allow that."

  • lol

  • 1 mistake I think they are making is a part of the superbar. When you open an application, instead of displaying the name, the button seems to 'pop' out. It's going to create some confusion.

  • You'll get used to it. I got used to it after a week.

  • Yeah I know, I mean like for maybe older people.

  • not at all

  • I can tell your a fan boy. Why? Because Windows 7 HASN'T EVEN COME OUT YET. It still is developing

  • question: the windows 7 beta is the ultimate edition. it has a desktop slideshow feature. vista ultimate supports animated wallpapers, but vista premium doesn't. so my question is, will windows 7 premium support desktop slideshow, or will that only be in windows 7 ultimate?

  • there is no windows 7 premium

  • he means Windows 7 Home Premium

  • I can't wait for the final version of windows 7.

  • Is there a "homegroup" name? Like how you setup a workgroup name on previous windows versions? What happens if it's not really a homegroup yet? Do both computers popup with a message saying they've detected another computer and would like to create a homegroup? Which computer determines the name of the homegroup?

    I'm kind of confused, sorry.

  • I wonder if you can add a 360 to a homegroup

  • Home Group and Windows 7 will make setting up the Xbox 360 a breeze also.
