  • 4:45 hahahaha, there is one sleeping in the background.

I bet the power of the Dark Lich was to much for him. It was the wicked OST that started before.

  • Awesome.

  • Holy fucking great!

  • That's just awesome :)

But what do they sing? I mean.. There's no text in the original songs ;-)

  • The whole medley is awesome, but 7:50 and following is pure goosebumps, just raw emotion...... and I've got tickets for Symphonic Fantasies 2012!!!!!! SO damn looking forward to it! :)

  • What are the notes for the xylophone for the Dark lich battle?

  • No star of darkness? :(

  • very beautiful... secret of mana for ever! (:

  • Love this.

  • 0:00 to 2:40 - Ah yes, beautiful world. <3

    2:42 to 2:50 - ... ! this sounds familiar !

3:12 - AHAHAHAHAHA *skin begins to pale and eyes begin to glow*

  • i really wished i'd understand what they are singing...anyway...i LOVE it!

  • @HRVDNT

*You* are the 'fucking idiot' for failing to read the description properly.

"Great research" indeed -- how ironic.

  • @KajunW Exactly what in the description proves me wrong, fucktard?

  • @HRVDNT this medley is split into two videos. fear of the heavens is indeed times 0:00 to 4:51 on part one, and also it comes up again in this video, part two at 1:34-2:15, and again at 7:33-9:35.

on this video, part two, the description of the video matches what is played.

so basically, you made yourself look like a gigantic ass in public.

  • @HRVDNT - Did you truly mean to come off so visciously? The poster may have made an error but your options included letting them know in a helpful way. See, the human race can be pretty bad to one another. Rather than attack you with a thumb down I'd say why not rethink your words and next time pretend you are dealing with a little child and be helpful. That's always an option. Being rude is always an option too. I understand that. I'd encourage you to try a higher path. Cheers to you in 2012!

  • @HRVDNT Just wanted to drop a comment saying that HRVDNT is a total ASS.

  • Now i ask.. What the hell does a person that don't like SOM come here and dislike the video?

  • Having a real hard time matching the start of this with the original soundtrack.

First part of the medley was better i think.

  • i liked the faster, uplifting songs SOM had. "friends" and the Potos theme would have been nice. Salamando would have been awesome, oh and the palace theme. Can't forget the pureland and upperland forest. Ice country... and the list goes on. good job guys, i liked the pandora segment. like the other guy said, the lich theme really lacked, but i'd still come to the show to see this anytime. Good job!

  • I cried :(

  • OK. I'll just go to the cellar and get my old 20inch Grundig TV,

my SNES and Secret Of Mana. =)

    Be right back !

  • @SepyaKolik BRB my ass. You know you're gonna stay down there for sixteen hours and so do the rest of us. :P

  • How do I get this in the U.S :(

  • I can not even begin to express how much I adore the sound effects the composer ended this medley with, much like how she started it. Of course the music was great too, that's a given, but it's not everyday you hear such an original way to make such very ordinary sounds!

  • ...the oracle theme was REALLY lackluster...so much for OMG GIANT ASS LICH KILL IT KILL IT KILL IIIIIITTTT!!...this felt more like...ok what is that thing....its a bit scary...anyway...

  • Brr i got shivers and goosebumps! XD

  • Flamey's song at the beginning was awesome! And Thanatos' theme XD. That theme always scared me when fighting him when i was a kid. Then Pandora Village OMFG! Amazing job!!!

  • Secret of Mana is my favorite game and one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time. Hearing anything from it selected for orchestration is amazing, but I think they made some egregious mistakes for picks.

  • All my childhood is here...

  • For the Oracle (Thanatos fight theme), they should've used a real Gamelan orchestra.

  • amazing.

  • I never knew a song like the oracle could be orchestrated. haha

  • I was hoping for Tell A Strange Tale, and the music in The Ice Palace.... oh well.

  • AT LEAST WE CAN BE CONTENT WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRAS UNDERSTAND THE RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT IS VIDEO GAME MUSIC

  • i always play this game, just because of the music, one of the best pieces is the upperland forest, also pure land

  • Takes me back to when I was a little girl and my friends would call me up asking me what I was doing...

My response... Killing cute little mushrooms. XD

Damn those mushrooms were cute =)

  • @RiceBowlBunny also the rabits

  • @RiceBowlBunny Those mushrooms were cute but little buggers!

  • anyone noticed the flammie drum at the start?

  • There's a guy sleeping in the background at 4:50. I guess the power of the Dark Lich overwhelmed him.

  • I LOVED the part at 3:30 during the Dark Lich Theme!!!

  • /applause!

  • 2:55 Dark Lich Theme.

  • by the way, what are the words the choir is singing? just phonetic catching syllables or some text that is known or available to see?

  • omgomgomgomg i can't believe an orchestra actually did this!! FUCK YES!!!

  • I-APPLAUD-YOU!

    That was magnificent!

Sure, like a lot of people I wish there was more of it, but that's not because the piece sucked. It's simply because I love this game with it's music so much, I wish it'd never end!

  • 05:04 <3

  • The only thing I don't like about this is that The Oracle is once again underwhelming. Despite its relatively sparse instrumentation, it's supposed to be a pretty darn gosh intense song, being the theme of the second-to-last boss and all.

  • @spirallingshape I must agree with this. I have yet to find any rearrangement of that song that approaches satisfaction. None of them seem able to hit the horror and awful hype of the original.

If we are permitted one teensy criticism of this greatness, that is it.

  • I agree...this music really speaks to my soul...God, it makes me want a remake with modern graphics SO BAD! same game...just better graphics and story prtrayal

  • I really miss the crystal forrest theme called "A wish"

it was one of the best songs in game

  • @cubalibre88 yeah i agree they couldve at least orchestrated the crystal forest theme a wish that wouldve been awesome

  • It's a shame they couldn't incorporate Leave Time for Love in there as well.

  • I'm shaking, getting goose pumps all over my body and shedding tears... it's like the music itself is not getting into my head, but direktly flowing into my very soul. Horrible and wonderful at the same time.

  • I like the music part the best . . .

  • I love the Oracle music :) (Dark Lich battle)

  • wonderfull! but i miss the song "a wish" from the crystal woods =)

  • I dare you to skip to 4:35 and listen to the next piece without wanting to cry to it's beauty. I know i'm tearing up.

  • Thank you!

  • I <3 the oracle, if i knew what they were chanting i'd chant along.

  • I can play the shaky paper too :D

  • 5:00 major chills man

  • @Cabalmk Yeah, but that's not very well suited to symphonic instruments.

  • Ah... I'd love to visit such a concert, but on the other hand it would be emberassing for me as I wouldn't be able to sit still and keep the tears away ^^.. That's my most beloved game from my childhood... Well, actually, it still is. Too bad it's impossible to recreate the feeling of absolute pressure from the Oracle music in a symphony, but everything else was simply perfect

  • @Drakerrr the thing that made the song be so special is that it is discordant and dissonant; there is nothing agreable or harmonic in Oracle, it is why it is such a good boss song, but they can't hallow discordant noises in a symphony, so yeah it looses some pressure

  • I believe The Oracle and Rose and Ghost were the highlights of this set.

  • I simply can't get over how much I love this. This is my favorite game of all time, best video game music known to man, such an inspiration to me.

  • 5:21 is when randy got kick out of his village for pulling the mana sword ; ;

  • This gave me such a Secret of Mana boner.

  • omg they nailed The Oracle. I used to take forever on the Dark Lich/Thanatos fight just to hear that theme for as long as possible. 3:45 ftw!

  • @brandonbush1 Me too! Hahaha

  • Brings tears to my eyes

  • 5:22 what an Epic Instrument !!!

  • Amazing, except the arpeggio bassline at the start of Rose and Ghost didn't change! The change is the most awesome bit of the song and it's one of the best songs in the soundtrack imo. An example would be at 5:20. Notice how the harp player goes back to what she was playing one second ago. She shouldn't. It's a different bassline, and the crushed CM7 chord in the original is one of the most gorgeous things ever. Too hard to orchestrate maybe.

  • Aw I would have killed to hear these guys do the Theme of Courage from Sage Joch's trial

  • Where the hell was "Meridian Dance" ?? How the HELL could you do any sort of Secret of Mana reprisal without THAT? That and "The Oracle" are the two most Epic songs in Video game history. And the watered down the oracle and turned it into this slow beat.. and left out Meridian dance totally!

Those gripes aside, everything ELSE was epic......

  • When they orchestrate this stuff, you can really see how it would sound if these songs were in films. Like, the song "Fear of the Heavens."

  • 8:08

You see that puff of smoke? Those aren't fog machines, that's the instruments catching on fire because of how awesome the music is.

  • @unusualcatperson OMGWTFBBQ?!? HAHA! I didn't notice that! And your theory is absolutely correct! xD

  • i found the whole presentation really awesome, but listening Rose and Ghost just made me remember a huge part of my childhood, really wanted to cry, 5:49 was like.. ._. o_o ó_ò =,)

  • Shame of Square. They can't make anything like they used to back in the days Sakaguchi worked for them (prior to the Square-Enix fusion). Today it's all about flashy things and trying new things that don't work. Square, stick to what you're good at, and give us another true classic like FFV, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, Secret of Mana, etc.

This game definitely holds among the most special places in my childhood memories.

  • @Arzive You forgot FFVI you shall die!!! *raep face*

  • Arnie Roth must be a big time video game nerd. I swear he conducts in like all these vids :).

  • Wow Phantom and Rose too?!!! =D

  • Plainly AWESOME! I wish I had known about this event in Cologne, I'd have been there, definetly!

  • I'm crying over here, beautiful exprerience!

  • the piccolo player is so good!

  • Too awesome for YouTube. This is probably one of those where you have to physically be there to really get the full dose of epicness.

  • Totally badass

  • Omega Nostalgic Bomb. This is mindblowing.

  • Oh man I was so disappointed at the Oracle, it had no energy that the original had, it honestly just sounded like a whacky Disney song or something. The rest was pretty great though.

  • @Stradivarius8457 Yea, I said the exact same thing in reply to WiiClassic2usb.

  • Kinda dissapointed in the Dark Lich theme here. Its supposed to be based on a monkey chant, and this doesnt sound anything like a monkey chant.

  • So many memories came rolling back in listening to this. Would love to hear this in person, orchestral music is so much better live. *tears* Fond memories.

  • 1:34 to 2:15 is amazing.

I want a movie of SOM so bad now.

  • Bit disappointed by The Oracle. Didn't really had the same amount of creepiness as the original.

All the other songs sound really fantastic !

  • omg I wish they'd do the entire game ost....its just so amazing

  • They could have done better on The Oracle, seeing as how that was probably my favorite boss tune of all time and was pure epic. Fuck, i wish they still made games like this... A timeless classic...

  • Curious selection of some of the themes like "Prophecy" and "The Oracle" I never expected thos orchestrated but it was nice.

  • I want Seiken Densetsu 5's soundtrack to be recorded orchestrated by these magicians sent from above! :D

  • @LittleCrazyGamer

    What is Seiken Densetsu 5?

I thought there is just 4?

  • I mean, when SD5 comes out. :P

I hope they make it as good as SD2. ^^

(P.S. Not a crap about SD5 is announced, but it's obvious they will release a fifth entry SOMEDAY...I say this just to not make further misunderstandings)

  • This is awesome in music form.

So far the Secret of Mana medley is my favorite part of this concert, but that could have something to do with the fact that this is the first time I've heard a really good Secret of Mana arrangement.

  • What an emotional ride! 5 *

  • @ephrodite1 No kidding this brings back memories... I don't know what the feeling is but its awe inspiring

  • 1:33 - 139 sounds like something out of the Matrix.

  • @ericli51

Eh, the Matrix didn't invent arpeggios.

  • The harp player resembles an angel.

  • @TheNattak When neckbeards fall in love.

  • Sounded much more eerie and fucking awesome, and powerful, I don't know what your thinking?!?

  • great music, could have done without the light show though

  • Altogether it is an amazing piece of music, but the arrangement of 'The Sorcerer' is almost an insult to the original. There is almost non intensity in it whatsoever. Since this is one of my favourites from the OST, I am a little disappointed.

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely amazing, i wish i was there in first person, shivers of nostalgia down my spine! 5:20 the harp player is gorgeous (and knows what shes doing with her fingers ;)

  • WHAT

    no meridian dance?

    it was good and all

    BUT NO MERIDIAN DANCE!?

  • Check out the encore.

  • Already did. I was disappointed, they toned it down and lasted only 1:30 minutes.

  • @MustBe18YearsOrOlder

See how the title is "part 2/2"? Part 1 has the Meridian Dance. It's actually a wonderful arrangement too.

  • i didn't hear Meridian Dance, you must have mistake it for something else

  • @MustBe18YearsOrOlder

    Yeah I think you're right. sry :\

Maybe "Meridian Dance" is what I heard in that game concert in the 90's though

  • It's really fantastic.

Fan of Secret of mana from Poland!

  • The young singer at the right side is funny at 0:24 :D

  • 5:58 the violonist, is that Jet Li? XD

  • everyone who hasn´t play it until now

has to BUY it NOW xD

    it´s so beautiful *.*

sry for my bad english xD

  • Where?

  • Internet, Secondhand shops, import stores...

  • OMG! So cool they played "The Oracle"!!! That song always freaked me out in the game! XD And "Rose and Ghost", just beautiful! I only miss "Spirit of the Night".

  • I can't agree more with you ShadowZero, it always freaked me out as well, and I was so thrilled to hear it :D

  • やはり聖剣の音楽は最高

  • Once again, this proves that video games ARENT just junk, they are a form of art if you think about it. The art into the backgrounds and characters, and the music development....its all amazing

  • @Sabrina902 I couldn't agree more. I sat here listening to this and found myself so happy that people have turned the music from something like a video game into a beautiful orchestral work of art. I just sat here and relived each moment of the game as it was played out through the music. I'm happy to see video games being taken more seriously and brought into a medium like this.

  • @Sabrina902 - @Sabrina902 - Oh fuck... they did the DARK LICH THEME... brb, I just jizzed in mah pantz.

  • @WiiClassic2usb Too bad they fucked it up. Arguably -- there are so many good ones --favourite song of the sound-track because it's so intense and fast, and they only made it kinda' intense. Like, "oh, this is supposed to be intense, but my heart rate isn't really speeding-up." Not, "SHIT FUCK YEA HAIL SATAN" intense.

  • @Sabrina902 video games, to me, are the ultimate form of art. It combines storywriting, music, drawing, painting, etc. Of course, we're not talking about Spongebob Squarepants, or simulation games (to me, shooter or rts games somewhat fall in the simulation genre).

  • @Sabrina902 We're talking epic games like this. In the old days, we'd tell stories using books, paintings and music. These type of games combine them all. Of course, games are childish, but that's only because the first generation to play these games were children back then. I bet anything, those of us who know the beauty of this game would gladly play a more mature, serious version of this game, retaining its great quality.

  • @Sabrina902 As games, they are an integral part of our culture. And as well-designed games... they inspire millions. :D

  • @Sabrina902 Combined with the memory of the story and locations this music was paired with, you then have a more powerful emotional connection with it, making it stronger than JUST music. Video games should aspire to telling great stories, and uniting all forms of art.

  • GORGEOUS! I loved this game =]

  • 2:50 Tantalus fight P=

  • I wonder how many people in the audience had no idea what Secret of Mana was and were inspired to seek it out and buy it.

  • 4:50

Sleeping guy in the audience xD

  • What?! Blasphemy!

  • I know! How can anyone possibly fall asleep while this magical music is magically preformed by these "magicians"?!? (if I may call them that way)

P.S. I love your word for expression, not often I hear it...I like uncommon words. ^^

  • @LittleCrazyGamer I'd prefer to think he's just got his eyes closed and living the music, as you might say.

  • I don't really think he looks like it...I mean, he's resting his head on his palm...that's pretty sleepy if you ask me. :/

  • Secret of Mana was actually rather big in Germany. But I know what you mean, and I'm just glad my Grandma got it for us when we where kids, my brother sister and I that is.

  • holy moley, this is amazing! first time i search for something SoM orchestral on youtube, and this is what i get, being such a new video and all. amazing!

  • Same to me... First time i'm looking for something SoM orchestral... And i've found THIS! Amazing!!! S2

  • and I was there !!!! XDDDDD

  • Gosh! xD I hate you! 8D

  • Noooo Q.Q xD And I....I shook the composer's hands ! >:D And I have autographs ! XD

  • ._. Gosh... Get out of my life! =*

  • *disappears* x'D

  • epic arrangement of the oracle piece and a beautiful and emotional arrangement of the rose and ghost piece i'll be looking foward to to buy this symphonic fantasies concert on cd from i heard on a german forum of the concert it would be also cool if the wdr radio released the album on itunes as well

  • holy crap--- oracle is when you fight the dark litch... its been at least 7 years and i can STILL SEE IT

  • "prophecy" literally had me visualizing riding on Flammie and flying when it's all purple are dark...

    chills

  • Stunning! goose bumps are guaranteed

  • Thank you SO much for posting this. I wish they'd have one of these concerts in the US. To hear this in person would be amazing.

I'm happy they decided to actually do a Mana medley. It's a fairly underrated game, when it comes to things like this.

  • A lot of people say it has the greatest soundtrack ever made, but it always gets dwarfed by other projects like Final Fantasy or something. It really is a shame.

  • I know it from my child-days: D

  • das ist so ... wundervoll, ich wuenschte, ich wäre auch da gewesen -.-

  • Throughout this entire thing, I could not get visions of the movie "Spirited Away" by Hayao Miyazaki out of my head...especially during "Ghost and Rose"...I could just picture Joe Hiashi conducting this... Thats how good this production was...wow. I'm in awe of this...I want a CD or something to come out of this project.

  • @roninalchemist I could see Miyazaki doing an animation for this. It would be grand. Too bad he's retired.

  • Good, but they put fear of the angels 3 or 4 time instead of putting other great songs like the floating continent, flamie's theme, or even the boss battles. But good work none the less

  • I agree with you, they should have put one in the beginning and one in the end.

And don't forget What the Forest Taught Me, A Wish, Flight Into the Unknown and Calm Before the Storm! :D

  • Man, I was really hyped up about finally hearing a "real" version of Oracle (that is, not MIDI); but this was way too slow. They put forth a great effort, but it doesn't come anywhere near capturing the feeling of the game's version the way the rest of their set did. Too "Indiana Jones" adventure movie, not ritualistic-sounding enough.

  • I think the slow version has its qualities. nothing beats the original of course, but I think the orchestrated ver. is quite amazing... it seems much more creepy and mysterious...next to fear of the heavens variations, this was my favourite part of the whole concert!

  • Yes, that's my opinion, too.

Someone should make a metal-version of this song XD

  • Yeah the original oracle was very grindcoreish as i heard it. Which was interesting because i'm not sure if grindcore existed back then. It's really gritty and insane. This orchestra did some strange, modern things for classical music but i think that song was just too much for them, or perhaps just not what they were going for. It's all construed similarly to sound more classical in nature it seems to me. But it sounded really fucking good.

  • Phantom and a rose. holly shit !
