@Karmagasm Well its actually superior directing based on literary success. Capturing most of the charm of the novels. Eventhough the storyline may suffer like any book to movie adaption, Harry Potter makes up for it with a line of the best actors in the business, a british only cast which was J.K.Rowlings request. The last film (2 parts) lack alot of the charm but makes up for it with chaotic/high tension pace. Don't have to be a fan of Harry Potter to like it, or grow up around it like me.

@TheUnbeholden Having also grown around it and attempted to read some of the books as well as see some of the movies I can only honestly and vehemently disagree with you, it's never been able to show me what it's magic was as the writing was quite frankly, in my eyes, subpar. The movies were at times embarassingly painful to watch, though I will concede that it's a very good cast of actors.

I'm afraid this is a case where "quality" is simply too much of a subjective term.

@Karmagasm Twilight however is a different story. Its unfortunately popular, most would say the novels lack quality/depth. The movies didn't do much to improve on that. The movies would have to have not only had better director/screen writer but also bigger budget (the first film came out before Twilight was as big as it is now), and rewrite alot of the story. I would say Twilight films cash in on the novels success. Harry Potter films on the other hand merely complement the books.
