Nice machine! what KVa is this? looks like a large (maybe older) generator unit, have just bought same engine on a smaller Alternator, as a Mechanic myself is there any way of lessening Diesel knock as pump timing is pre-set? modern more sophisticated ones are much quieter, it would make them better for offsite Emergency use.

Cummins is ACTUALLY a British Company, They started out making Marine Engines.

Always done first in Europe, then comes here! A Chrysler 300 would be nice with a MB Turbo diesel. They make them, but not for North America. Dodge Caravans with diesel as well, not here. Ford Focus with diesel, not here. Only VW, MB and BMW you can get with diesel here. Soooooo Typical!

@badboybilzer Euro diesel is the best. Cummins is actually a British Company. They started out making Marine Diesels. Ford guys are smart! Go to Europe if you want a reliable diesel. I think I will have another FRENCH BRANDY.

The knock you hear is the fuel injector, its more pronounced on a single cylinder

I wander how much experience you have with lister engines? What single cylinder air cooled diesel engines do you know that run better?

@landiv8 i have a deutz F1L210d from a miller del-200 welding machine that is 14hp and single cylinder and air cooled, i don't know much about lister engines but i have been very pleased with the deutz

we had a twin on one of our rock crushers thing ran for 40 years with 5 oil changes.then they retired it with way more than a million hours on it.they run forever in the worst of conditions.they put 4 9999 hour meters on it and i put 6 on it.
