I like your point about the readily available themes not really being there for Drupal. As a UX/UI guy, and a PHP developer, I LOVE Drupal. The other big deal for me was that I could set up a Drupal "Farm" with many domains running off the same drupal core. With Wordpress, I had to be on the same domain. So updates to Wordpress x 20+ sites....PAINFUL. Both are great platforms, depending on your use.
This video should be taken down... both CMS engines have made leaps and bounds since '07. I <3 Drupal, but if you have to ask you're better off with Wordpress.
I actually like Textpattern the most for a simple blog website. You need to be a designer to create a website with Textpattern though. I find Wordpress very boring.
Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual, a community of users, or an enterprise to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website. Hundreds of thousands of people and organizations are using Drupal to power an endless variety of web sites...
With WordPress 3.0, the point about not hosting multiple sites is moot. Drupal still however has the steeper learning curve. I'd say if ease of use and multiple sites were the 2 criterion. Of course this is 3 years ago so things change.
Joomla is crap. Tries to re-invent the wheel instead and makes its primary focus self-promotion. The foundation of Wordpress is much more solid for blogging. Notice how Joomla differentiates between modules and plugins? There is no difference. That simple slip-up is a thought/creation problem which leads to needless complexity.. out! enough said.
@koldtoft Automatic Nodetitles while you edit node and Contemplate (or maybe node.tpl.php) while you display it can do the magic. And there are more then one way to do it ;)
I use both platforms. In simple cases I use wordpress since it's faster to get into production. Drupal is something I use for projects that have the potential of stepping outside the blogging paradigm. Of course, it requires more work to get it into shape, but then, granularity in development has always been the flipside of flexibility, and there are plenty of examples when it's worth the effort.
As a developer Wordpress all the way. It does what it is meant to do very well, unlike Drupal where apparently the "userability" is a foreign concept, if I want to do a complex site I choose a framework, Drupal just sucks in too manys ways.
Chris is totally on the spot here. I'm an avid Drupal developer and even I, being a fanatic, will recommend Wordpress for a simple blog. But when it comes to making complex websites, Drupal is the way to go - hands down.
I find maam31's comment funny, because the poster have obviously no idea what he's taking about. No system, whatsoever, is bulletproof - however some developers take security more seriously than others. Both the wordpress and drupal security team does a tremendous job on keeping the code as secure as it can be. Of course, if you have a site and you DONT add security patches/updates you're going to be VERY vulnerable! But that accounts for any system whatsoever.
A search for "drupal" at milw0rm gave me 5 *outdated* results, ie. they have all been resolved. If your not happy with drupal thats fine, but your claim about lack of security is simply false. The Drupal Security team does a great job on resolving security issues, if you know of any you can report it to security (at) drupal (dot) org
Ok after over a week of debating over this program called SocialBlaster, I made my decision today purchase it and its been the next best decision I have made in a long time.
Simple, plus very effective...traffic to my wordpress blog from over 40 + networks!
? WordPress Vs Drupal ? Are you kidding me?!?how can you compare a bicycle with a motorcycle?!?Even if both of `em have 2 wheels, you need to have a drivers licence to ride the second one.
Maybe.. But for newbies like myself trying to work out if I can do my planned website with Drupal or stick with the easier Wordpress, its handy to have this argument and spell out the differences to the people just thinking about moving from Wordpress to something as powerful as Drupal
I actually do not find Wordpress comparable with Drupal. They have very little in common. To install and customize drupal, you need to be a web developer who knows his coding. With Wordpress, you have to know nothing. Drupal is a fully fledged content management system while Wordpress is a blog. This is a big difference. Comparing Drupal with Joomla would make much more sense, actually.
i use wordpress for one site. don't agree about wordpress themes--mostly they're weak, although revolution themes are da bom. never tried drupal. surprised you don't like joomla.
Drupal wasn't and isn't made for lazy people and like DrBammBamm said there's a learning curve and you have to familiarize with it but when you do you'll find it simply the most modular, extensible and flexible CMS (acutally CMF) out there with TYPO3 Wordpress has always been connected to blogs and will always do even if i consider it so good in many aspects.
Drupal has some kiler features like the most powerful taxonomy system in an open source CMS, SEO friendly out of the box, and endless customization and scalibility.
The issue isn't Drupal v. Wordpress. The issue is Cathedral v. Bazaar. You can get involved in Wordpress and be a part of making it into what you want it to be. The alternative is just asking and hoping— kinda like hoping we'd get out of Iraq.
I build sites with lot of advanced features (Event Calendars, User Groups, Custom Data Types, Photo Galleries, Podcasting, etc), so drupal all the way.
Drupal, Drupal, Drupal!
True there is a learning curve, but I don't think ther would be much to learn if you just wanted to write a really simple site, but then if it is really simple, and won't ever need what drupal really offers, you'd be better off with Wordpress anyway.

Having used a huge number of varied platforms (RazorCMS?) I can say this:
Speed and efficiency? Drupal and Wordpress top the charts.
Ecommerce done right, Drupal or Magento.
Web designer or blogger? Drupal or Wordpress.
The way I see it, Drupal can be fitted to any need, but there are other options.
Joomla, is heavy. After a few productions, I had to leave it alone, for Drupal.
Expression Engine, and several other platforms are alright, but don't have the established community or mod library.

Drupal is great once you've got the hang of it, but getting the hang of it takes a good month of messing around.
I actually created my site with drupal with virtually no coding and it would have been far harder to do in joomla or wordpress.
