@uribeflores1 actually, i wish we could have bought them for that cheap. i work at a new car dealership, and these were the victims of our governments "Cash for Clunkers" program. the government offered people $3500 for their trade in on a new car, as long as it was newer than 85 and got less than 18 MPG. we were required to blow the engines, and then give the car to a scrap yard, where it would either be parted out or crushed, depending on individual state preferences

@WavyGravyTrain1 yes the engines are trashed in all of them. and for a while there werent many engines to choose from in the junkyards, but all those cars are long gone now. the program ended 2 years ago, and i saw the cars in the junkyards for maybe another 6 months after that. and no, engines arent more valuable now, but you can just always think about how our government removed thousands and thousands of them from circulation

I am a mechanic and the new vehicles are terrible, as far as quality and reliability. Ok..can someone PLEASE explain to me why the dealerships were mandated to kill the car and send it to the junkyard instead of just turning them around and selling them to people who could have used a nice old car/truck/van? The program did stimulate sales for a lot of dealerships, so it wasn't just screwing everyone ... I just don't think its the best idea to have a mandate on killing the cars when others could use them for parts...I know they wanted them off the road cuz they weren't "environmentally friendly" but neither is wasting perfectly good parts when other cars could use the parts.

@HaloSpartanG13 Reliablility has gone to shit because the workmanship has gone to shit. When actual humans built the engines and put the cars together they actually lasted more than 60,000 miles. As a fleet mechanic i have seen every new ford and chevrolet pickup that has come in have to go back to the dealer for a warranty or recall problem.
In Europe , Germany and the Netherlands thought they had a solution to sell more new cars , and get rid of the older ones , trade the old car in for a new car and you'll get a good price for the old one , there where a lot of good older cars and they landed on a junkyard , but they where taken apart and the good parts and engines are for reselling .
I think it is only time stretching , you sell a lot of new cars then , but after that year ??
@Holydiver7019 we were (virginia) one of the states that were able to let the car be parted out at the junk yard, just not the motors. im not sure which states were allowed to do that as i know many states had to crush em immediatly. thats depressing. several of the cars we did had no right to go out that way at all.
All states were that way. You can have anything off the car just not the engine. The local pull a part said if its inside the head or block, you cant have it.

@Dimitris227 unfortunatly, you live in a smarter country than the US. over here, we elect a stupid ass president and as a thank you, he creates a program where people can turn in their cars that get 18mpg or less, and the government will give them $3500 towards the purchase of a new car. the government required the dealer to "disable" the engines on all the trade ins. so we had to blow them up. and i just documented them in hopes that people will stop this madness

my friend i don't live on a smarter country i live on a poor country... the repair of our cars cost less than buy new ones. i totally agree that this madness of blowing engines must be stop. i think that the recycling of spare parts is better ! anyway any country it works as it thinks for its own reasons! my option is to keep your old car and conservate it ! i have an old honda civic 1995 with 210000 km on it and it works perfect and i'm very happy with that. i think is better than a new car !!

@Dimitris227 and judging by most of the comments left on my vids, my plan is atleast working a little bit. if the program is ever re-instated, hopefully the people that have seen these vids will reconsider their options. we did have fun blowing the cars up, but i wouldve much rather this program never happened. some of the cars definetly needed to be taken off the road, but many of them had no right to be treated that way at all. program was a great idea, just needed better planning

What I dont understand is why somebody would trade an older vehicle that may need a few repairs for a piece of shit new vehicle that will be lucky to last until its paid off. I am a mechanic and the new vehicles are terrible, as far as quality and reliability. I'll continue to drive my 74 ford pickup that gets 12 miles to the gallon any day over a brand new truck that will spend more time in the shop than on the road

Ok..can someone PLEASE explain to me why the dealerships were mandated to kill the car and send it to the junkyard instead of just turning them around and selling them to people who could have used a nice old car/truck/van? I mean, if you're turning in a car and getting money from the government for doing so and buying a new car...why doesn't it just end there? Why was it mandated to kill them and junk them?

@83RS Well I can understand your frustration towards the gov't, but come on, there's gotta be a better reason than that. The program did stimulate sales for a lot of dealerships, so it wasn't just screwing everyone ... I just don't think its the best idea to have a mandate on killing the cars when others could use them for parts...I know they wanted them off the road cuz they weren't "environmentally friendly" but neither is wasting perfectly good parts when other cars could use the parts.

@Barracuda340000 i can see their wanting to get them off the road. what was worse was that many states were required to crush the cars immediatly without letting ANY parts be sold. that was a total waste. i wonder how many people traded in their daily drivers on new cars, only to discover down the road that they couldnt afford them, and had to get them repo'd. i hope thats not the case with many of them, (although some of them deserve it, like the Formula Firebird's unforgiving owner).

@Barracuda340000 i think it was a great idea, just poorly thought about. i believe they should've had stricter rules, like had to be older than this year, or it had to have X many miles, and so on. several of those cars were far nicer than ill probably ever drive, and couldve serviced other people for many years to come. i feel some of them were sacrificed souly because of their MPG. but, some of them DEFINETLY needed to be done away with hands down. and their owners got a deal of a life time

@HaloSpartanG13 Reliablility has gone to shit because the workmanship has gone to shit. When actual humans built the engines and put the cars together they actually lasted more than 60,000 miles. As a fleet mechanic i have seen every new ford and chevrolet pickup that has come in have to go back to the dealer for a warranty or recall problem.

What a waste of material .
In Europe , Germany and the Netherlands thought they had a solution to sell more new cars , and get rid of the older ones , trade the old car in for a new car and you'll get a good price for the old one , there where a lot of good older cars and they landed on a junkyard , but they where taken apart and the good parts and engines are for reselling .
I think it is only time stretching , you sell a lot of new cars then , but after that year ??

@Holydiver7019 we were (virginia) one of the states that were able to let the car be parted out at the junk yard, just not the motors. im not sure which states were allowed to do that as i know many states had to crush em immediatly. thats depressing. several of the cars we did had no right to go out that way at all.

At 1:34 a connecting rod comes clean out of the crank case and then the engine goes on to run for another 30 SECONDS!!!! But I still hate this program.
