I fell in love with flatfootin and porch pickin in Elkins about 5 years ago We were just hitchiking through and the college was having the music week shindig and we ended up wandering around campus taking it all in. I remember listening to the music and loving it, then these two beautiful girls show up and start flatfootin and the whole experience was cranked up to 11. Mountain folk should realize how lucky they are to grow up on those porches. Youtube does it no justice. You have to be there.
Hard to believe that I taught Becky to dance. When she first came to me at seven years of age up in Lake odessa, MI she had been with another dance group but couldn't keep the time. It is imperitive to keep the time when one does oldtime dance. In six months she had no trouble with the timing.
