Does anybody know from experience how expensive the food/drink/alcohol is in wellington? Im looking to potentially surprise a friend of mine that moved out there 3 years ago with a visit for a week or two.
Does anybody know how much it would take to scrape living here for a week or two? Thankyou so much for any answers

They also say you get the most bang for your bucks and it's also been called the coolest capital in the world. I know this because lately I've started to fantasize about living there (i'm from Canada).

Wellington City....loved it....Victoria University graduate here, Beautiful city,multi cultural and great city for student life, nightlife , bars etc etc.:) Enjoyed my 3-4 years there. :)

They wont build shelters like in Europe. Large scale animal cruelty exists in this so called developed nation!

Wellington is hardly even a city - only 179466 people actually live in Wellington. The bus driver incorrectly states that over 400,000 live there! Just goes to show you shouldn't trust everything a bus driver says...
There a lots of great places to visit just outside Wellington, but the city centre itself is rather dull and depressing. If you are going to visit NZ there are far better places to go... there is a reason Wellington is not that popular with tourists.
Wellington extends beyond the city itself and includes places like Porirua, the Hutt, Wainuiomata and Paraparaumu. So the bus driver was actually right. Though I agree with you, the city itself gets abit old after a while. I like Auckland better, despite what people say about it lol.
hey i'm from wellington and just came to have a look cos I was interested in what international tourism had to say about Wellington. Just have to say, make sure you go to the Karori Sanctuary (Zealandia) if you want to experience NZ bush and native wildlife. Love it! It's won international awards too

a lot of the places were made ina studio, but they closed off some streets for filming the scenes in the city, so people could not walk/drive down the streets when it was filmed

New Zealand is the most beautiful country in the world. It is the way the world should be in some respects, it's kept its natural landscape, and the lifestyle is very active and laid back.
It Makes the industrial side of the US and UK look disgusting.
New Zealand is not a place you go to get rich, but the poorest person can lead a richer life than you could anywhere else in the world.
The one problem with NZ is the Maori, who are pretty much the same problem Black people are.

The statistics don't lie. The issues of crime, poverty and lack of education are predominantly Maori. 80% of the prison population are Maori. I'm not trying to Maori bash or be racist but that Justiceseeker dude does have a point.
At school for example a vast majority of Maori's do very badly. They wag classes and smoke weed. They are a couple who do OK but a vast majority don't!

Wellington is amazing (: I used to live like right next to Cuba St so I always had stuff to do, and was always super close to everything. I miss NZ and Wellington alot, I'm in Italy now and it's amazing, but honestly I prefer Wellington hah

This bloke needs to get his facts right - " Abos " are in Aussie NOT Kiwiland & its Lampton Quay & the streets are not safe as we have unfortunately had a number of rapes in Wellington . Wellington is very popular with international tourists as we are the middle of the whole country .

Wellington is hardly even a city - only 179466 people actually live in Wellington. The bus driver incorrectly states that over 400,000 live there! Just goes to show you shouldn't trust everything a bus driver says...
There a lots of great places to visit just outside Wellington, but the city centre itself is rather dull and depressing. If you are going to visit NZ there are far better places to go... there is a reason Wellington is not that popular with tourists.

Wellington extends beyond the city itself and includes places like Porirua, the Hutt, Wainuiomata and Paraparaumu. So the bus driver was actually right. Though I agree with you, the city itself gets abit old after a while. I like Auckland better, despite what people say about it lol.

Just have to say, make sure you go to the Karori Sanctuary (Zealandia) if you want to experience NZ bush and native wildlife. Love it! It's won international awards too

I was born in Wanganui, lived in Wellington most of my life and yet in this day and age I read the snide remarks about the Maori people as well as Asians. It was like this 20 years ago in NZ and still today, narrow minded people seem to criticise what they dont understand. I cringe when I hear pakehas or Maori talk negative about each other. Grow up and get a pair!
This only shows that the NZ education system has failed miserably.

I visit this terrible city before, and I didnt like it at all. The city offers nothing but high crime, poverty, and pollution. I just couldnt stand of the street beggars on street corners in downtown area. It was like a 3rd world city. What a terrible experience.
