Excuse an amateur like me, but what about 7. -- Ng4? black winning at least a pawn, eighter at c5 or e3 indirectly (except from that obvious mate on f2) ?

@keyar87 Ng4 looks interesting. I think after 7 ..Ng4 there is the pawn sac 8. c5! which nearly force 8. ..dxc5. The resulting position I think is excellent for white due to much superior development and easy play, probably 9. Nd5! (taking advantage of black knight at g4 instead of f6) ..Qd8 10.Be2 and black is forced backwards. I haven't engine checked or anything, just a quick impression on the resulting position.

I think you should give 8. c5 a try and see what happen.

@tantzer I think after white cXd5, white would be able to maintain material, reconnect his pawns, and gain control of the C file. Overall, white had better positions if pawn e6 x d5

I find I often get myself into an opening position much like yours and have to fight all the way to get out of it, often without luck. A pity your opponent blundered away a good position.
