You just have to pay attention to the sequence of notes to get the idea, just like with the Rolling Stones pinball machine Bally also made (in 1979). They're all rearranged to work as 8-bit songs.
Too bad it had such horrible sounds for such a good looking machine. It would be fun to give one the sounds that Williams was using around the same time in machines like Firepower, Gorgar and Flash.
I agree it can be a drain monster. I used to play this in the local bowling alley for hours at a time. Once you got your bonus built up you could pretty much cruise, then play for 2X bonus, extra ball and special by hitting A-B-C-D on the right side of the playfield. I got to where I could hit those targets with either flipper. The hardest shot was the D with the right flipper. Scored over 1,000,000 points on a regular basis.
One of my all time faves.
