  • Bit like Creendence Clearwater Revival

  • 8 people hate iron horses

  • 19 years old and love this song!!!

  • Perhaps if Christie had jumped on the Glam Rock bandwagon they could have prolonged their career. I rather like them as they are though.

  • This song is full of awesome for the soul fact that they were dancing like monkeys on a MOVING TRAIN.

    AND IT WAS LEGAL.

  • Wow,this is classic, nearly as good as yellow river and san bernandino...almost.

  • great song great band

  • Imagine the safety case for that in these days of HSE paranoia!

  • I had exactly the same thought...talk about an accident waiting to happen. Reminds me of one of the Public Information films about setting the chip pan on fire.

  • Perhaps fronted by a celebrity of the period. "Remember if you are dancing about on the front of a train in flared trousers...be safe: leave your platforms on the platform"

  • nice to see the Christie line-up when Lem Lubin was in the groupr

  • they may be dancing like retards.........!!! but it was all the way to the bank......apparently the drummer used to drive an aston martin DB6.....how do you become a retard...please?????

  • They sound like the Beatles!!

  • lol, they were called the yorkshire beatles back in the day!!!

  • a health and safety nightmare!

  • Reminds me of Shining Time Station.

  • This song is so good, it makes you want to shovel coal on a steam train and listen to it while you shovel!:)

  • modern helf and saftey wouldn't allow this

    i like it 5*

  • Iron Horse is the term the American Indians used to describe the first train that cut through their land.

  • no, its what they called steam locomotives, because they were made of iron and it had lots of horsepower

  • your both wrong.

The term "iron horse" came about from Queen Elizabeth, who said of a steam locomotive "What a charming iron horse, of which I am delighted to pat"

The Native Americans called trains "Fire wagons" for their language had no word to describe it.

  • oh... lol

  • If Pete Jardine (now Head of Carriage restoration) saw those guys jumping the roofs. At least they're not the victorian stock. Then again what was he doing in '94?

  • dancing hippies, i just like the song and the train.

  • Ha, awesome; Must have been interesting doing that on the pilot-beam of a moving locomotive.

  • They're dancing like retards.

  • una verga de cancion desde 1969 que no la escucho desde el 69 que vinierona mexico

  • i like the bit when they dance on the locomotive and that engine reminds me of another engine i know her name is ISABEL she run's and the cambrian railway oswerstry.

  • Schade, dass die Qualität nicht besser ist...

  • Does anoyne know the current status of this locomotive?

  • It runs today on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in England.

  • No regard for health and safety back then! Great tune and video!

  • haha yeah! back in the day you could play with lead soldiers and ride in the cab. Nowadays you get through in prison.

    Would like to know.

    TY.

  • I'd never heard this one until I found it on here. Here in the US we just got Yellow River. I love this song. It's great & the video is neat with the steam engine & all. The guy with the square pockets on his pants, I remember people dressing like that. The good old days.. :)

  • Pretty much MOR, but they could pass for a heavy rock/metal band by appearance.

  • Great song, impressive

    Christie: Iron Horse

    elvira2262

  • i love this !!!

  • HEY,BIG SONG...

  • Man, this is such an awesome train song. The train songs in America are mainly a bunch of Southern "Red Neck" country crap. British rock songs about trains (like this one) are SO much better than the American country songs about trains.

  • are you kidding? where do you think rock music came from? without folk music this hippy shit would never exist.

  • This is NOT "Hippy Shit". Hippies hate steam trains because they think they "ruin the environment". So why would hippies write songs about steam trains?

  • Driverman, don't be dissing the South or classic country. A train song is good no matter what.

Now modern country, you can diss that all you want.

  • I agree dissing the South and classic country is really stupid.

Or have people ever heard of Rockabilly?

Rock 'n' Roll owes alot to much of classic country music, as well as the South.

  • A good Rockabilly-style Train song can kick just as much ass (if not more) than others.

  • meh, depnds what your lookin' for, We "red necks" have thrown a few good railroad songs out there.

  • and ive never met a redneck who didnt respect trains of all kinds for what they are, dangerous! prancing around like that is just asking to get killed, trust me. i had to jump off a freight train at speed and came within about 6 inches of losing my right foot!

  • we used to play this at my mates house in 1973

    still sounds as good today

  • Awesome song! Look at Invincible (the tank engine or "Iron Horse") roll down the line!:)

  • to jest świetne! naprawdę dobra piosenka

  • Great song should have been top 10 at least

  • I think i remember watching them perform this on 'The Golden Shot' but then again it might have been on another show!

  • Absolutely correct,I saw it too..

  • HAHA LOL thats my mum as the ticket inspector when the 'crazy' guy is hanging off the train!

  • Are you Robert? (Reply to wsparky)

More on the Christie website: see information on top right

  • I don't ever recall hearing this song before, but like both the song and video. It's great that some people had the foresight to preserve a fewf those steam locomotives on both sides of the Atlantic.

  • This is wonderful, it must have been around 1972.

  • Das Video ist Schrott. Aber das Lied ist ein Lebensgefühl...

  • Memories from the beginning of the 70's as I was studying.
