Their were two things I didn't like about Y@R in the 70's and that I would have written differently had I been at the helm: one was that everybody was looking at Katherine Chancellor's feelings for her friend Joann as "Unhealthy" while we all know it's true Kay's not nor ever was a lesbian it really wasn't sickening. and I didn't like how Jack only took Joann back because she lost a good amount of weight.
I gotta ask you Cool...do you have a video collection of these old gems? This is priceless and I'm amazed you have stuff from it's early years. I know you mentioned your mom watched a few soaps back in the 60's and 70's so is this part of her collection that she's graciously letting you post?(apparently you're too young to have recorded all this) I just think it's amazing. I can't bring myself to watch today's Y@R or any other soap for that matter. It's so disgusting the way their played out now
Wow, this is awesome! I was around 3 when this first aired, so I don't remember it, but I do remember the Foster and Brooks families very well. It is very sad so many current viewers have never heard of them. I hate they have basically been erased in favor of the Newmans and Abbotts.
There weren't as many weddings as I thought in the 70's, I think it went Jan 74 - Sally and Pierre (a few days before Chris and Snapper) Jan 11th 1974 - Chris and Snapper Jan 31st 1975 - Leslie and Brad Dec 76 - Lorie and Lance Jan 77 - Peggy and Jack Dec 77 - Kay and Derek Jul 78 - Leslie and Lucas Jan 79 - Jill and Stuart Sep 79 - Nikki and Greg There were also Jill's marriages to Brock, Phillip and Derek, but they were invalid, mostly because of Kay. Anyone know any others?
@flagler88 I made a 35th anniversary video of Y&R some years back with different photos of the marriages on the show during the first 10 years. Most of those couples are shown, but a number of them I couldn't find a snapshot of. Thanks for the dates.
@coolwafferman Yeah I saw that, great video, thanks for all you share, it is really great to see and I appreciate the effort. the only one I missed was Liz and Bill from May 1976, I only realised because you had it in your other video. It would be hard to find pics as most of the marriages were small affairs, not real big weddings.
This is very nice, very pretty. I think this was the first wedding on Y&R (or maybe that was Sally and Pierre). So nice to see family, something today's Y&R is very ashamed of.
@CarlD2 This is the 2nd wedding in Y&R history. Pierre and Sally was the first to get married, but I think he only married her because she was pregnant, but Snapper was the father.
Y&R should be ashamed of themselves. Did you see my discription about Y&R on here?
@coolwafferman Yes, I did. I'm glad you said it. When I hear people say that today's Y&R is about "family", I just laugh. The show seems to only write family now if it's about Victor and his weakling sycophant brats. Saddest of all is that the show now pretends the Foster family never existed.
@CarlD2 I really can't even watch Y&R anymore. For the number 1 soap it's to me really lame. It's nothing how it was in the 70's or when I started watching it in the 90's. They bored the Newmans and Abbotts up to the point where it's time for them to back their bags and leave town.
It was beyond stupid for the show to bring back Liz Fister to kill her off, and then have Jill be related to Lauren. It wasn't the best move to have made Jill and Kay become mother and daughter in the first place.
The Jill & Kay mother & daughter storyline, I think the writters could have gotten away with. Even with their fights & insults, ironically in a strange way, Kay & Jill have a relationship like a mother and daughter. The storyline that really killed this show (why I stop watching all together) was the plastic surgery BS with Shelia & Phyllis. I heard they did two more stupid storylines similar to that one recently on Y&R! Bill Bell is turning over in his damn grave.
@MrJuly1990ish I remember that storyline, and may I say that was one of the worst storylines I have ever seen on a daytime soap opera. I remember posting comments on imdb.com's "Y&R" message board, and people would get on me saying I can talk about the show all I want, it is still the best soap on TV, and is number 1. Obviously, those people didn't know much about soaps. That was not the "Y&R" I watched when I was a kid with my grandmother. I agree, Bill Bell is probably turning in his grave.
"Saddest of all is that the show now pretends the Foster family never existed."
And the Brooks! At least all the Fosters were brought back for a brief moment for the show's 30th anniversary back in 2003, but no one from the Brooks clan? Sure, Lorie Brooks came back too for a brief time (back in 2002 for one week), but the Brooks & Fosters (at least the adult children) should still be on this show, since those families were an intricate part of the show's earlier years and history!
The woman at 0:30 looks possessed.
