@ersemola And the CE-2 sound better to just as many =P CE-2 is a a bit mellower than CS-9, not as bright or if you will, harsh. I prefer CE-2. Although DC-2 Dimension C is my favourite chorus pedal of all times.
Hey Rusty, I just bought a BC9 on ebay for 70 euros...your great demo was really helpful because it seems that there aren't other videos on YT demonstrating this pedal...However, I would like to know how do you supply this thing?! I usually power my pedals with a single 9v power supply (switching, not analog) ...do you know if I can use it with this pedal too?
Does anyone know the difference between the CS9 pro and the Maxon BC-9 Bi Mode? I'm guessing they're very similar but I can't figure out which one would be better...or if I should get a Maxon CS-550.
Just turn the speed at 9 o'clock, the intens/dept at 12. I use the Ibanes cs 505 myself, bought it new in the shop in the early eighties, still have / use it. Great pedal. So, I should say;the Ibanez cs9
That CS-9 sounds awesome. I was hunting for a Small Clone but after finding that this pedal really has no bad setting I decided to go with it instead. I'm glad I did.
The thing about pedals is usabiliy. If you play live the last thing you want to do is mess with a pedal for longer than a couple of seconds.
nice video sir..just a little question, why is it if turned my distortion on it always does a "banging sound" something like echoing,is it my effects or my amp?hope u cud help me fix this.thank u and God bless you more .. =)
I have both the BC9 and the CE-2, and I have to say that I like the BC9 the most. Both are original, made in the 80s in Japan. The CE-2 is okay, but like said above, its too stiff.
Very nice demo, I have played through all of these, I still have the CS-9 and the CE-2 (vintage of course). Honestly, I like the CE-2 the best in your demo. As you said the Ibanez tends to add something to the tone, which I don't care for, not to say that I don't like the Ibanez pedals they're great. I just prefer the CE-2. I will be doing a shootout soon - CE-2, CS-9, Small Clone, CH-1, CE-5, and the Tonebias Chorus.
I've owned all three. I've played all three in rehearsal and live. My favorite is the Ibanez BC-9 Bi-Mode...although it has its limitations. For lush chorus, this one is the best...hands down.....For chorus on most things (using it often) the CS-9 is my overall favorite (if versatility is the key)...The Boss CE-2 is distinctive, but seems to add a bit of a treble bite...not my cup of tea...used on many classic recordings though...:)
@bfv102290 I wasn't a fan of the CE-2 myself. It was a bit too stiff. I ended up getting a DOD FX60 chorus from '85, and what an underdog it is...definitely rivals these guys and can be had for 1/3 cheaper. DODs are great (minus their distortions), but I'm really in love with the old Ibanez/Maxon boxes..ALL of them sound killer! Still, Boss wins the best chorus award with the DC-2 and DC-3
I bought a boss CE3 and played in against a CE5 ensamble and the CE3 absaloutly crushed the CE5. the CE3 is very rich and full sounding compaired the the synthasized sounding CE5
The Boss one wins for me because it is a much warmer tone. There a reason why many artist use the very old made in Japan Boss CE-3, The new bosses are no where as warn sounding. Chris Duarte uses a old school made in Japan Boss CE-3. Check out his sounds with it on any of his abums....
But that doesn't mean that I think the Ibanez one here are bad. They don't suck at all. But I seem to like the tone of the Boss CE-3.
I've owned the reissue CS-9 and now own the Japanese CE-2. I think the CE-2 sounds more lush, and overall just more natural.
The CS-9 on the other hand sounds brittle and pingy, it kind of hurts your ears.
I would say that the CS-9 is a lot like the Boss CE-3, harsh and pingy, while the CE-2 sounds more mellow and natural, the CE-2 can also do very lush swooping sounds.
I hate the CS-9 and would advise anybody considering the reissue to buy a Boss CE-2 instead.
The BC9 is basically 2 CS9's in a single pedal, so if you like more dramatic sounding chorus, go for the BC9, if you want a basic chorus sound the CS9 will do the job,.....the BC9 will also do basic chorus sounds also.
You'll find the CS9 is easier to find on the used market, where the BC9 maybe harder to locate,
@rustycowbell I sure love my bi mode chorus . Just saying , it's so not like 2 cs-9's the two "modes" are different , yeah they sound the same , but speed and depth variations makes em different . When you get that sweet spot , it even creates some fake delay effect which is worth a million dollars . Hahaha try to find a bc-9 , good luck :)
the BC9 is basically 2 chorus pedals in 1, it has 2 speed and depth dials for chorus A and B, if you put both A dials to 0 you have a Ibanez CS9 sound.
The earliest CE-2's are definitely superior to either Ibanez, very sweet mids. CE-2 is very lush and the Ibanez' can be overly bright/harsher. I've had 'em all...
I bought them all used, it depends on how hot your local used instrument market is, but I found all these pedals for under $100CAD, the boss CE2 seems to be a popular one on the resale market.
cool, but you should have shown that the bc chorus also can have normal speed by turning the side A or B off so you basically get the sound of the cs9.
Great demo of all three. Thanks for the perspective!

Boss is the king of chorus pedals; CE-1, CE-2, DC-2, DC-3 are all great classics, with my favorite being the DC-2, incredible shit.
Don't bother with the new stuff though ; )
CS9 and BC9 sounds a tad too trebly for me.

It is good you changed out the pickups, because of the Noiseless Fender pickups were dull on the American Deluxe versions.

I agree that the old noisless pickups werent so great, but the American Deluxe have used the SCN pickups he is talking about since 2004.
