just bought this. First of all its not 1 cable connection its at least 3. both the docking and the laptop require power(1), then there is the USB connection(2) To have an extended multiple display from the DVI, and the VGA you must connect the VGA in the laptop's VGA port, not the dynadock. While this is a simple thing for your IT guy, its a nightmare for execs who take their laptop home and bring it back to the office and try to fidget with cords every day.
@xmorg, correction - all the peripherals connect to the DynaDock (LAN, monitor, KB, mouse, sound). You then connect a SINGLE USB cable from the Dock to the laptop. Yes the laptop requires it's own charger to be plugged in. What you are describing sounds like you take the DynaDock with you everytwhere, which obviously requires reconnecting everywhere. These devices are not supposed to be taken with the laptop everywhere. If you want that, then get 2.. one for work and one for home. sorted...
